Joel 2:28 Dreams, Prophecies And Visions

And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Joes 2:28

As the destruction of Israel was coming, there was also good news. The good news was what would occur after the destruction of the nation. God would draw all His people back and show His mercy upon them. At that time, God will pour out His Spirit upon everyone who follows Him.

For the most part, in the Old Testament times, the only people who received God’s Spirit to have prophecies, dreams or visions, were prophets and priests. If a person wanted to find out what God had in store for him, he would have to go to a prophet. It is the prophet who would inquire of God for him. God would reveal His ways and things to come through the prophets by giving them prophecies to speak, visions and dreams.

When Jesus was getting ready to leave the earth, He told the disciples to wait for the Spirit to be poured out upon them. This was to fulfil the promise Joel had vision of happening. Not only the old men have these visions and dreams, but so could young men and women, it would be for every person who follows God.

Even to this day, God still pours out His Holy Spirit upon believers. He gives His people visions of what He is doing or going to do. He gives His people dreams to follow in order to build His kingdom larger. He gives prophecies to His people to direct His people on the path that they should be walking.

God is always at work in this world. With your physical eyes, you may not always see it or realize what God is doing. With God’s Holy Spirit in you, you will be able to see with spiritual eyes what God is doing.

God is waiting right now to reveal to you His plans for your life. Those plans are revealed in dreams and visions.

Open up your spiritual eyes to see what God is saying and doing. Allow God to reveal these things to you.

Then, with His strength and power, run hard after those dreams and visions He has given you. See what God can do in and through you.

I pray today that you know God’s Holy Spirit in you; that God will give you prophecies, visions and dreams; that God will help you to understand what He is showing you; and that God will use you to build His kingdom greater.

2 Kings 9:36 God’s Word Will Be Fulfilled

They went back and told Jehu, who said, “This is the word of the LORD that he spoke through his servant Elijah the Tishbite: On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs will devour Jezebel’s flesh. 2 Kings 9:36

While Elijah still walked on the earth he had prophesied that when Jezebel dies, her body would not be buried, but devoured by dogs. Elijah did not stay on the earth to see that word fulfilled. It was many years later, while Elisha was the prophet, that the word of God had been fulfilled. She was thrown over a wall onto the ground, where horses trampled on her. When the men went to get her body and bury it, the body was gone, having been eaten by the dogs.

In today’s society most people expect things very quickly. No matter how fast something is, they would like it a little bit faster. Prior to the speed limit being raised to 75 mph, while it was still 60, people would still drive 65-70 mph. Now that the speed limit is raised to 75, people  drive 80-85 miles per hour. They want to get there just a little bit faster, or at least feel like they are getting there sooner.

People are impatient with each other and with God. When they pray for God to meet a need, they want it right away. When they hear a word from God about something to occur in their life, they want it right away. Very few are patient in waiting on God.

There are many people who have walked away from God, because they gave up believing that Jesus would return soon. They grew up hearing that His return would be soon, and now it is 20 years later, and still no return.

God’s word will always be fulfilled. It will come at the right time and no sooner and no later. Many may have given up on the word Elijah had told the people about Jezebel, but God did not forget His word.

Hold on to what you have read in God’s word, all the promises God had made. Those promises will be fulfilled.

Do not forget the promises God has personally told you, either directly or through someone else. Be patient as you wait for His word to be fulfilled. God will not let you down. God does not lie or break any of His promises.

I pray today that you will know the promises God has for you; that you will believe God’s word; that you will not grow impatient in waiting on God; and that God will do great things in your life.

1 Corinthians 14:20 Mature Thinking

“Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults.” 1 Corinthians 14:20

Right after a chapter talking about love, speaking in tongues is talked about with speaking prophecies. Then comes this statement to not think like a child. It almost seems like a sudden rebuke against the people, but as with all Scripture there is a reason for it.

Think about how children think. They are often selfish, dishonoring to other children, angry, believing their way is best, wanting everything, and wanting to be the center of attention, and yet innocent is what is actually evil. These thoughts and actions are just the opposite of what love is.

Now when Paul talks about speaking in tongues and prophecies he tells the people to stop being like the children. Evidently the people in the Corinthian church were seeking only to speak in tongues. This is something different and no one can really judge what was said, because it is an unknown tongue. It is a safe area to do.

Speaking in tongues is great for the individual between him and God, and also a sign for those who do not believe yet. The problem is that it does nothing for anyone else that is a believer. As a part of the church you are supposed to build up other believers up. This cannot be done with words that they cannot understand. This is where prophecy comes in.

Do not think that by just doing certain ministries or using certain gifts that you are the best and everyone else must follow that way. God uses each person differently and in different ways.

Your thinking must be on how to build up others in Jesus. What is the best way to lift them up? What is the best way to point them to Jesus? What is the best way to encourage them? Think in these ways.

I pray today that God will reveal to you ways to build the others in the church up; that God will use you with speaking in tongues as a sign to unbelievers; that God will use you with prophecies as a sign to believers; and that God’s church will grow through you.
