Matthew 22:11 The Wrong Clothing

But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. Matthew 22:11

Society has often made it a requirement that when a person attends certain events or places he must dress a certain way. Some high-end restaurants will require a man to wear a suit and tie to eat there. If he does not wear the proper clothing, he will not be allowed to enter.

The more formal the event being attended, the more formal the clothing that is expected to be worn. Some people will attempt to dress down, ignoring the requirement, only to find out that they are rejected entry.

Jesus gave a parable about a king having a wedding and inviting people to it. One man came, but was not dressed appropriately and was cast out.

It is very common for many people to try to ignore the dress requirements. This occurs within the church also, but not with the man-made rules on how to physically dress. Many people go to church improperly dressed. The improper dress in church is going to church without putting on the righteousness and holiness of Christ.

There are those who claim to know Jesus and go to church, but do not even attempt to live a holy life for God. They purposefully live in sin, refusing to change. Sadly many churches ignore the how a person is dressed spiritually.

God does not ignore the spiritual dressing. If a person does not clothe himself with the holiness and righteousness of Christ, God will kick him out in the end. He will not be allowed into heaven at the marriage supper with Christ.

Everyone who considers himself to be a believer must cloth himself with God’s holiness. He must become a new creation, with a new appearance that is suitable to be in the presence of God. Jesus provides the clothing.

Take time to examine your life and see how you are dressed. In yourself, you cannot dress yourself properly, but Jesus made a way. Jesus removes all sin and provides His righteousness and holiness that is needed.

Seek to be like Jesus in every way, so that when you step into the presence of God you will be in the proper clothes. In Jesus you are a new creation with new clothing, not the old person with the shabby clothes of this world. Dress for the occasion.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will put on the holiness and righteousness of Jesus; that you will be a new creation in Christ; and that you will always be dressed to meet with God.
