Proverbs 14:23 Hard Work Or Just Talk

All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. Proverbs 14:23

Talk is easy. People can talk about a lot of things that they will plan to do. Dreams and goals are often talked about and set on a daily basis by millions of people. Grand dreams of changing the world, inventing the newest gadget, starting a business, and much more.

Every new year, people will draw up elaborate lists of goals for the new year. Many times they will go into great detail of what the goal is and how they plan to accomplish it.

Out of all of the goals set, very few will ever be accomplished. Very few people will take the steps needed in order to fulfill the goal that they had set.

Solomon brings out a great truth about hard work and talk. Hard work will often lead to a profit or success, while just talking will bring only poverty.

It will often take hard work and dedication to accomplish a goal. Most goals are not easily accomplished.

It is common for people to seek to gain without the hard work. They want the ‘get rich quick’ method, rather than the slower hard work method. In the process, most of their goals are just talk, leading to nothing.

This can also be found in the life of a believer. Many believers talk about following God and believing in Jesus, yet, that is all it is…talk. Their lives never change. They continue to live the same way, often in sins, and refusing to be a witness.

Although salvation is free, God has work for every believer to do. It sometimes takes hard work to be a witness. It can be hard work to turn away form sin. It can be hard work to pray or read the bible. Yet, doing each of these and following God will bring about a profit of the soul.

Not working for God will bring to a poverty of the spirit and soul, missing what God has for the person.

Do not just allow yourself to talk about being a follower of Jesus, be one. Do the hard work God has called you to do.

Work at turning away from sin, work at being His witness, work at being like Jesus. Do what it takes to build your life into the image of Jesus. As you do your part, God will do His part and bring the reward and increase the efforts effects.

I pray today that you will know the salvation Jesus brings; that you will work to turn from sin against God; that God will give you the strength to be His witness; and that you will not be a follower of Jesus just in words, but in action.

Job 35:3 Missing The Real Blessings

Missing piece

Yet you ask him, ‘What profit is it to me, and what do I gain by not sinning?’ Job 35:3

The world does not see sin as sin. They do not have a solid foundational moral code to live by, so the rules to not sin mean nothing to them. Those in the world make the rules as they go along to meet their needs at the moment. It has to fit the rule: if it feels good, if it helps me, if it does not directly hurt anyone else, then do it.

Elihu pointed out a question that many believers have asked over time. People often want to know what benefit there is in not sinning.

This question is often asked of the world because of what they see in believers. If the believers they are seeing are living their life just as the world does, in sin, then it is a good question. There are many believers living in such a way, that they do not look any different than those who are not believers. Their lives are not set apart, holy unto God.

Living like this, causes a bad witness for Jesus. It turns people away from God, because why should they follow someone who requires some change, yet, they never see the change. There is no difference in how they live.

Other believers also question giving up sin, because of the troubles they are going through. They look at the challenges in life as God is against them. They watch non-believers seemingly going through life having everything going for them and no problems. As they see this, they begin to wonder why they should give up sin, why not keep sinning and enjoy it, life will be the same or even better.

Living like this misses the blessings God has for a person. The peace and joy of a relationship with God, the hope of eternal life, and the work of God in their lives.

God allows bad things in your life to build you and help you be His witness. It is not to tear you down or crush you, but to build you up.

Living in sin brings on many problems, ultimately separation from God for eternity. Having temporary pleasure in sin will not be worth losing eternal life with God.

Keep your focus on what God is blessing you with, even during times of struggle. Don’t allow yourself to look back and choose to go back to sin. It is not worth it.

I pray today that you will see the blessings God is giving you; that you will know the peace God has for you; that you will see the benefit of following God; and that God will help you to keep from looking back to sin.
