Romans 11:21 Be A Live Branch

For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either. Romans 11:21

Those who grow fruit trees keep a close eye upon the tree. They are looking at the branches to determine which branches are producing fruit and which branches are dead and not producing fruit.

Any branch that does not produce fruit is cut of and thrown away. This is done to give the good branches more nutrition to produce even more.

Many businesses do this with their workers. Any worker that does not produce is often let go after a warning to produce correctly.

After describing Israel as the natural branches of a tree that was cut off by God because of unbelief, Paul describes believers in Jesus as branches grafted into the tree. These new believers need to believe and produce fruit, or they will also be cut off.

It is common to hear of people who have become believers and refuse to give up sinful habits. Many churches teach that people can stay as they are, preaching God’s grace and love, but not talking about what He requires of His people, to live holy lives.

Some will state that once a believer, one cannot lose his salvation, that it is for eternity, no matter how he lives.

Belief in Jesus is what saves a person, however, God requires that the person become a new creation, to turn away from sin and produce fruit. The producing of fruit is not to save a person, but to show gratefulness for the salvation God has given him.

If God was willing to cut off Israel from His salvation, because of their unbelief and refusing to live for Him, He will also cut off people today for the same reasons.

Every believer must strive to live for God and turn from sin, producing fruit worthy of what Jesus has done for them.

If you consider yourself a believer in Jesus and are saved, examine your life. Ask yourself if you are producing fruit or if you are a dead branch. This can be seen in your life if you are turning away from sin.

Make progress on a regular basis to change sinful habits and be His witness. Be who Jesus has saved you to be, a new creation that produces fruit for God’s kingdom, not a dead branch that will be cut off.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will do what God has called you to be; that you will produce fruit for God’s kingdom; and that God will not have to cut you off.

Luke 3:9 Don’t Be Cut Down

“The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.” Luke 3:9

John the Baptist had grown up and started preaching. He was preparing a way for Jesus to come and start ministering. Some of the words he spoke were very harsh. Here he talks about trees getting cut down.

When a person has a fruit tree that does not ever produce any fruit, he will usually cut it down and get rid of it. Fruit trees that do not produce fruit are worthless. They serve no purpose at all. The entire reason for a fruit tree is for the fruit.

Later Jesus will use the analogy that He is the vine and we are the branches. He will also talk about us producing much fruit. Every person is like a fruit tree that God has planted.

What is the fruit that is supposed to be produced? Humans do not physically grow apples or oranges, or any other fruit on their bodies.

The fruit a believer in Jesus is supposed to produce is the change in their life. Turning away from sin. Showing love to everyone, including their enemies. Having mercy and compassion on others. Having grace for others. Drawing closer to God. Being His witness more.

The good fruit that God is looking for is His fruit in your life.

Many people will believe in Jesus, but never really change. They feel that they can stay the way they are because that is the way God accepted them when they came to Him. Often people state the reason is that is just the way they are.

Are you really living for God? Are you really allowing God to change your life? Are you really looking more and more like Jesus everyday? Are you being God’s fruit tree that produces fruit?

Or are you just going through the motions? Do you just state you believe in Jesus, but not really live for Him? Are you a dead fruit tree, living but not producing any fruit?

I pray today that God will show you ways to produce His fruit; that you will have a change in your heart; that you will produce the fruit that God desires; and that God will use you to build His kingdom.

Revelation 18:21-22 Sudden Destruction

“Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea, and said: With such violence the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found again. The music of harpist and musicians, pipers and trumpeters, will never be heard in you again. No worker of any trade will ever be found in you again. The sound of a millstone will never be heard in you again.” Revelation 18:21-22

The city of Babylon will be destroyed at some point. That destruction will be complete. Nothing will be left in it.

Babylon was one of the largest and greatest cities in its time in ancient history. No one really knows what city this Babylon is that John is prophesying about, but it is a large, well-known city. This city had everything going for it. It was the center for entertainment, production and trade.

Think of a large city in the world today that is the center of all those things: New York, Hong Kong, Bombay, or one of many others. They hold the same type of description.

Yet, Babylon was also a city of sin. It killed off believers and prophets of God and promoted sin.

The current great cities of the world are still doing the same things. They may not all be killing believers, but they are trying to destroy them by quieting them and restraining them.

It is easy to look at a major city or country and believe that they have everything going for them, but if they are not serving God, they will be destroyed in the end.

Do not allow yourself to trust in these cities/nations. When everything is said and done, all the cities of this world will be destroyed. All the power, glory, fame, and fortune will become worthless. The only ones that will be standing in the end will be God and all those who have followed and trusted Jesus with all of their heart.

Are you trusting Jesus with everything in you? Are you following God with all of your heart? Who or what do you put your trust in today?

I pray that today God will draw you closer to Him; that you will trust God more; that you will follow Jesus with all that is in you; that you will put away trust in this world and its things; and that God will fill you with His Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen you on this journey.
