You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely. Psalm 59:17
Relying on someone or something is something that every person does all the time. People rely upon their boss to give them their paycheck in a timely matter; they rely on others to stay on their own side of the road when driving; they rely on their vehicle to work; they rely upon the electricity company to provide the needed electricity; and the list goes on forever. Many will also rely only upon their selves.
With all of these things or people that people rely on there is one problem, they can let a person down. Equipment fails, people do not always do what they are supposed to do, or greater problems occur, preventing something from happening.
David had quickly learned that some of those people, whom he should have been able to rely upon had turned their backs on him and sought to kill him. However, he knew he could rely upon God. God would be his fortress and strength.
God is always there for every believer. He is a fortress that has walls thick enough and high enough that no enemy can break through. The only things that God allows through the walls of that fortress is what is best for the believer. Everything else is blocked.
This can give amazing strength to the believer. He now has the ability to overcome every attack of the enemy, when God is His fortress. Standing behind the walls of God’s fortress provides a protection that no one or any thing on this earth can provide.
God is faithful and will not fail in His protecting you. His fortress will stand the tests of time and the attacks of the enemy.
As a believer step into God’s fortress. Be filled with His Holy Spirit and know that you have His protection upon you at all times, in every situation. There is no enemy strong enough to get to you without God’s permission.
Do not turn to things and people of this world, because they can and will fail when needed. God will never fail you. You can rely upon Him to do what He said He would do each and every time.
As you see His strength and power in your life, sing praises to Him. Give Him praise for protecting you and being your strong tower of protection.
I pray today that you will know the power of God; that you will know the protection God has for you; that you will know you can rely upon God; that you will know God’s faithfulness; and that you will sing praises to God each day.
Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. Psalm 47:6
Singing about someone or something is nothing new for people to do. Thousands of songs are written every year and performed by many singers that are about someone. This is the most common, known way for a person to sing.
Another concept of singing that does occur a lot is rapidly talking very highly of a person or a thing. People will talk a lot about someone or something, giving high praise to whoever may be listening.
In either way of singing praise, they are both about something that the person is passionate about. They are excited to tell someone else about someone or something. They talk about the good things in whoever they are talking about.
The sons of Korah write in this passage about singing praises to God. They repeat it four times in this one verse and mention that God is their King.
For every believer one thing should be true, that God is his king. This is not a king like those in the world, one to be a harsh, unloving dictator, but one of love, caring and compassion. God is a king who really loves those who are in His kingdom.
God is a good God who does great things for those who love and follow Him. The level of things that God does is so great that one can talk about it daily for years and never complete the list.
One of the things every believer is called to do is be a witness. Being a witness is telling others about what God has done for people through Jesus. This can be singing God praises, being excited to rapidly tell others about what God has done and who He is.
Singing God praises can be done in song or just in speaking. However either way it is lifting Him up for others to see.
Take a moment to think about all that God has done for you. Now be willing to go out and sing praises about what He has done to others. Tell them with a contagious excitement.
You can also sing praises to God letting Him know what you know He has done for you. Give Him thanks for His great love, mercy and compassion.
It is time to get out and sing praises to God and about God to others. What will you sing?
I pray today that you will know what God has done for you; that you will be excited to tell other about Jesus; that you will sing praises of God’s great work to others; and that you will sing praises to God.
You have turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise you forever. Psalm 30:11-12
In times of pain or sorrow, people will weep and wail, losing all joy in their life. During these times many people will turn to drugs or other things to try and cope with the pain that they are going through. Some will even seek death because the pain and suffering is so great that they feel that life cannot go on.
The things that the world uses to cope with the pain never really solve the problem. With those things there is no hope really given.
David had been going through some painful times and had been weeping and wailing before God for mercy. As he did that God heard his prayers and did help him. He put on new clothes of righteousness that brought about joy in his life. The purpose for the new clothing was to give Him praise and tell others about what God had done.
Believers today often go through difficult times. Sometimes it is brought on by personal sin in their lives, other times it is from other people. They cry out to God for mercy and God still hears to this day.
People can be clothed with the righteousness of Jesus, removing all sin and shame and filling them with everlasting joy. However, this is not just for personal relief, but to be a witness to others. It is to openly give God praise, letting the world know what He has done.
No matter what a person has done, God is there ready to forgive and move forward. He wants His people to filled with His joy being able to sing praises.
God is there today ready to forgive you and remove your dirty old clothes of sin and shame. He is ready to change your wailing to dancing and fill you with His joy that the world cannot understand.
When God pulls you through a difficult situation or has forgiven you of something you have done wrong, be willing to sing praises to Him. Be willing to share that out loud with those around you. Put joy on your face and live in that joy.
Do not stay in sorrow or pain, but accept what God has for you, knowing the hope you have in Jesus of eternal life some day.
I pray today that you will seek God with all of your heart; that you will know the forgiveness God has for you; that God will fill you with His joy; and that you will praise God for His great mercy in your life.
