John 21:17 Do You Really Love Jesus?

Loving Jesus

The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.” John 21:17

After the resurrection, Jesus had asked Peter three times if he loved Him. Each time Peter would reply that he did. Each time Jesus would also tell him to feed His sheep.

Saying that a person loves someone is easy to say. People say that they love someone all the time. Yet, the love being shown is usually very selfish and not real love. It is about what person is getting that the person loves, not always the person directly.

People all over the world claim to love Jesus. They claim to be believers in Him and claim to be His follower. However, many of those same people are not doing what He told them to do.

Belief and love of Jesus is often done for selfish reasons. People do not want to be condemned or go to hell for all eternity, so they believe in Jesus. This is a good beginning, but it should not be the end.

Once a person begins to believe in Jesus, his love for Him must grow. True love looks out for the other person, not self. True love is self-sacrificing for the other person.

Jesus had one goal in mind when He came to this earth and that was to seek and save all the lost. He wants to feed and build up every person to be more like Him.  Jesus sacrificed Himself for every person on this earth.

Believers, today, must be willing to sacrifice themselves for Jesus now. This means putting their own desires aside to truly love Him and do what He asked them to do…feed His sheep.

If you are a believer in Jesus and claim to love you, what are you doing? Are you doing what He asked you to do?

Jesus told every person to go and make disciples of all the world. He said to build and not destroy.

Each day God gives you the opportunity to feed into someone else’s life the word of God. You have the opportunity to be His witness each day.

Do you really love Jesus?

Or do you just claim you do?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will love Jesus with true love; that you will follow the commission of Jesus; and that you will feed everyone you can the truth of Jesus and build them up in Christ.

John 14:23 Proof Of Love

Jesus replied, “Anyone wo loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” John 14:23

As Jesus was getting ready to be betrayed and crucified, He told the disciples that He would be leaving soon. He tells them several times to obey His teachings. Now He says that whoever loves Him will obey Him.

People all over the world follow a lot of different people. Some will follow a sports team, others a singer or actor. Still others will follow some business person or politician. The list of what they will follow is endless.

One thing that is common with all of these people they follow is that they love the person or group they are following. They want to know all they can about that person.

Along with many people following a lot of other people, there are many who claim to follow and love Jesus.

However, Jesus takes the idea of loving Him and following Him a step further. Whoever claims to love Him must obey His teachings. Jesus did not come to just entertain people, but to bring them life and show them how to live a full life for God.

It is easy for a person to claim to love Jesus or to say they will follow Jesus. It is another thing to actually love Jesus and truly follow Him. A lot of people will claim to believe in Jesus, however, very few will actually obey His teachings.

Jesus set up a way to know if a person really does love Him. That way is to obey what He was teaching.

Every word that Jesus spoke was for teaching and building people up. He spoke about ways to not be and ways to be. He spoke about how to act and how to not act.

As a believer, your purpose on this life should match that of what the purpose of Jesus was–to love and obey God and to love all people. Showing love to all people will be seen in bringing the gospel message to every person.

As you go through your life, prove that you truly do love Jesus, don’t just claim to love Him. Show your love by doing what Jesus commanded. Live your life as Jesus lived His on this earth. Do you really love Jesus?

I pray today that you will know the teachings of Jesus; that God wills strengthen you to obey His commands; that you will love as Jesus loved you; and that you will obey all that Jesus commanded.

Luke 5:4 Do What You Are Told To Do

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Luke 5:4

Jesus had been speaking to a very large crowd. He had chosen to get into a boat of some fisherman working on their nets, to continue speaking. When He was finished He told them to go out and try to catch some fish again. He gave them specific directions on what to do.

Simon told Jesus that they had fished all night with no success, but would do what He said to do. They caught more fish than they could handle.

People who work in a specific field do not like to be told what to do by someone who does not specialize in that field. They feel as they are the experts and no one else can help them.

This can even happen when the boss is telling them to do something different. Pride gets in the way of a lot of people following someone else’s advice. They are not willing to change their ways.

Believers in the church can also fall into this type of thinking. They can feel that they are the best at what they do and no one else can tell them anything different.

Hearing from other people and refusing to do what they say may be bad enough, but that same type of thinking also pours into a walk with God. God may tell a person how to do something in a different way, and the person refuses because he ‘knows’ what is best.

Although Jesus may not be working as a fisherman, He is the one who created the fish and the ability to catch them. As in this case with Simon, Jesus did a miracle. He made it possible for Simon to catch more fish than they could handle with doing something that was unheard of.

God may be asking you to do something different or to do something again. You may feel as though you are the expert and that it will not work, but God is the One who has true control of the situation.

Step out and do what He asks of you to do, despite how crazy it might seem to be. God can open the doors for you to catch more than you can handle, when you do it His way and in His time.

I pray today that you will hear God’s directions for your life; that you will obey what He asks of you; that you will see His results of obedience; and that many will know Jesus because of your actions.
