1 Kings 19:8 Strength From God’s Food

So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. 1 Kings 19:8

There is some type of diet for nearly every situation a person may find himself in. These diets are made to give a person the nutrition that may be needed. Finding strength and energy for a long and difficult journey is the desire of many people. Often people will look to fast foods and energy drinks to get them through it. These will provide a fast, but short burst of energy with a crash in the end.

After eating some food that an angel of God had given Elijah, he traveled for forty days and nights to Horeb, the mountain of God.

Getting through each day is difficult for many people. They lose energy and motivation to keep moving forward. Often what they are eating or not eating can have a severe effect on their energy levels. Most people are quick to eat junk foods, drink energy drinks, drugs and other things of the world to give them the ability to make it through their day.

Jesus had told the disciples that He found His food in doing the will of the Father. Believers are to eat or take every word of God into their lives. Eating of God’s word is taking and applying it to one’s life. It is obeying and doing the will of God in every area of life.

As one eats of God’s word and does his will, it can provide joy, peace and strength as needed beyond anything that the world can give. The strength provided is there until the mission is completed, which may be in this life or at the end of one’s journey in this life.

God has a mission for you to do, a journey to go upon. It will be difficult and sometimes long. In order to complete this journey in life, you must be well nourished with what is needed.

Find your nourishment and strength in God’s word and doing His will. God will feed you what is best and what you need to be able to finish the journey He has you on. Do not turn to the things of this world that will fail and destroy you in the end leaving you weak and unfulfilled.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know what God has to feed your spirit; that you will eat the food of God; that you will know God’s word and will for your life; and that you will have God’s strength for your mission.

Matthew 4:4 Full Nourishment

“Jesus answered, It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4

Jesus has been in the desert for 40 days with no food and He is very hungry. The devil comes and tries to get Him to make some stones into bread, since He is the Son of God.

Jesus comes back with a statement quoting Deuteronomy 8:3. That verse starts with a well-known and accepted statement that even the world accepts: you cannot live on bread alone.

There is nothing wrong in having bread in itself. In fact, Jesus broke bread at the last supper and provided bread for feeding the 5,000 and the 7,000. Bread is good for you, but it does not contain all that you need.

Along with bread you need some fruits, vegetables and the meat or protein. Eating just bread will cause you to get sick and your body will fail to function correctly. Even those who don’t believe in God will tell you that you need to eat a well-balanced meal.

In your spiritual walk this is the same. There are some people out there who will just read the gospels and nothing else. They will state if Jesus did not say it, it doesn’t apply.

Others will pull a single verse out of a passage and live by that verse alone. Time is not usually taken to see what the whole Bible says about a given subject, just a verse or two.

Here, Jesus states that you must live on every Word of God. You might ask then how does the Word of God fill you up physically? It does not fill you physically in any way, but it is in the idea of following all of God’s Word. If God has not told you to eat so that you may fast for a time, then you had best not eat. God will sustain you.

Often in life people feel they need more than what God has for them. This is not true. All you need is God’s Word and direction. If you follow God in all He says to say and do, you will have more than you need. Read the whole Word of God–the Bible and listen to the speaking of His Holy Spirit in your life. Eat a well nourished meal daily with God.

I pray today that God will open your eyes and hears to hear His Word for you; that you will live on every word God speaks; that you will not fall into sin trying to live on something God has not given you; that you will see the lies of the world; and that God will fill you with all that you need daily from His Word.
