Then the Lord said, “Call him Lo-Ammi (which means “not my people”), for you are not my people, and I am not your God.” Hosea 1:9
In every nation that are certain characteristics that its people have that distinguish them from every other nation. Often there are physical characteristics that can show where a person is from. These can sometimes be shape of the face or eyes, height or color of hair, although these are not always a guarantee of location.
The more common characteristic is one of how one speaks or acts in various situations. Each nation has various ways to speak and act that are unique to their country. Other nations would find those words or actions offensive or worthless.
God had Hosea marry a woman and she had some children. One of the children was named Lo-Ammi, which carries the meaning of ‘not my people’. God had this child named because He was no longer the God of the Israelites.
In America the national motto is ‘In God We Trust’. This motto implies that God is the God of the nation. Yet, God has been pushed out of many places. Even while some claim to have God as their God, they are not living like it. Sin is openly practiced and promoted everywhere, sometimes even inside the church.
People in this nation and many other nations do not display the characteristics of God in their lives. They may claim to believe in and follow God, but their lives show everything but following and obeying God.
There have been many who have said the sinner’s prayer and began to believe in God, but later only to reject Him and do their own thing. Churches have also chosen to walk away from God to allow and promote sin. God is no longer their God.
You may have given your heart to God at some point in your life. You may have told God that He was your God at some point. Examine your life and see if what you had said is still true.
What characteristics are you displaying in your life that show that God is still your God?
Jesus walked and talked just as His Father–God did. You are to be just like Him. Your life is to be one that when people see you, they see a mirror image of Jesus.
Can it be said of you that God is your God and you are part of His people?
I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that your life will be patterned after that of Jesus; that God will be able to say that you are His child; that you will obey God in every area of your life; and that you will be able to say that God is your God.
