Isaiah 58:2 The Appearance Of Eagerness To Know God

Eager girl

For day after day they seek me out; they seem eager to know my ways, as if they were a nation that does what is right and has not forsaken the commands of its God. They ask me for just decisions and seem eager for God to come near them. Isaiah 58:2

Eagerness is the deep desire for something to happen. People get very eager the closer they get to having a large vacation or when one is about to graduate. It is common for people to be eager for the weekend to arrive.

There are times that a person can give the appearance of being eager, but are really not that eager. Children often play being eager, while not wanting something to happen, only to make their parents happy.

Isaiah describes the people of Israel as if they were eager to get near God, to have God near them. They were acting as if they were a nation who did what was right.  However, they were living in sin and rebellion against God.

It is no different today with some people. There are some who appear to be eager for God. They are always at church singing all the worship songs, loudest in prayers and can quote the bible very well. Yet, outside of church, they are living in sin on purpose, refusing to repent or change.

In some places there are even churches who appear to be followers of God, yet, condone and promote sinful acts among the people.

The nation of Israel had been living like this, yet, were steeped in sin. Many in America claim that America is a nation who seeks God, yet, it is also steeped in the same in sin.

Believers who are truly eager to know and have God near will live for God. They will seek to change and turn from sin.

You must take a look at your own life and determine if you are really eager to know God and have Him near, or if you are just playing a game. As you seek to know God, are you willing to change and run from all sin?

Or are you willing to accept some sin in your life as the world does?

Look at the life of Jesus and determine how well your life measures up to His. The closer it is, the more true your seeking God is. Do not just appear to be eager to know God, but be eager to live for God as you get to know Him.

I pray today that you will know God in a close way; that you will know God’s presence in your life; that you will turn away from all sin towards God; and that you will live your life as Jesus did.

Jeremiah 10:7 No One Like Him

Who should not fear you, King of the nations? This is your due. Among all the wise leaders of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is no one like you. Jeremiah 10:7

Over the years, there have been various leaders who have risen up to be considered great leaders. Some of these were leaders of nations, others were leaders in the business world or in the church. Some of these leaders are known to most people in their nation and sometimes even around the world, while there are many other leaders who are never known outside of their small sphere of influence.

One of the common things among all the great leaders that have ever existed is that they each gave of themselves for a greater cause. They were able to take a bad situation and turn it around. The wisdom of some of them in the way they led is astounding to most people.

Yet, as great as all these people were and are, there is no one that is completely like God, Himself. God is the one who made the heavens and the earth, and everything in them both. He created every person and gave them breath to breathe.

Think about how great the universe is and how many things and people there are on this earth. The amount is overwhelming to think about, yet, God has perfect control of everything that is going on.

And what leader is willing to give of himself in order to save a group of people who hate and despise him? God loved the people of this world so much that He gave His own life in order that they may live, and this was done while everyone hated Him.

As you realize what God has done for you and everyone else,  you need to give Him all the praise. Fear only Him. Trust in God for everything. He is the wisest and the best. Do not look to the leaders of this world, they will fail and lead you wrong, God will not.

Along with praising Him, strive to be like God. Be a leader as God is a leader. Put the needs of others first. This shows God’s true love, compassion and mercy for every person on this planet.

I pray today that you will know God as your leader; that you will follow God in all His ways; that you will fear no person on this earth; and that you will strive to be a leader that leads as God does.

Isaiah 1:4 Forsaking The Lord

Woe to the sinful nation, a people whose guilt is great, a brood of evildoers, children given to corruption! They have forsaken the LORD; they have spurned the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on him. Isaiah 1:4

It is easy to stand on the side and see the sins of others, and then blame them for the conditions of a nation. All over the nation there are many Christians who are pointing fingers at the sins of others. They often state that the nation has become a sinful nation because of others.

Although it is true that the nation has become very sinful in many different ways, one cannot just blame others for this occurrence. In reality it is a group effort to cause a whole nation to become sinful and turn away from God. It is a process of individual people slowly turning away from God.

Many believers will say that they have not turned away from God. The question is: how many times has a person turned down being the witness God called him to be?

A nation is made up of people, individual people. It is individuals who cause a nation as a whole to follow God or reject Him. It is individuals who choose to allow sin to occur. It is individuals who refuse to be a witness of who Jesus is.

When a believer chooses to not be a witness for Jesus, he is causing someone else or the nation to continue to live in sin and reject God. Every believer must give every non-believer a chance to know God and choose or reject Him. Often many will keep quiet and make the choice for the other person.

In this way, many believers have turned their backs on God. This is where Isaiah says woe to that nation and its people.

You have to take a look at your own life. How are you doing at being His witness from day-to-day?

Are you willing to tell others about Jesus every time you get the chance?

Or are you keeping silent and not wanting to offend anyone?

One causes sin to continue, while the other is doing God’s will on this earth.

Are you in partnership with this world in causing great sin?

I pray today that you will be God’s witness every chance you get; that you will keep yourself from all sin; that you will tell everyone about Jesus; and that you will not turn your back on God.
