2 Samuel 11:15 Covering Up Sin

In it he wrote, “Put Uriah out in front where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die.” 2 Samuel 11:15

Very few people want to be found guilty of doing something wrong, so it is common for them to work hard to cover it up. Most often the cover up is attempted with telling lies, though there are some that do not know any boundaries as to what they will do to cover up their wrong, to include murder. Their hope is that the distraction will be enough so that no one will see the wrong done.

David had slept with Bathsheba and got her pregnant. He tried to get her husband, Uriah, to sleep with her. When that did not work David had Uriah put into a battle to be killed.

Just as the world works to cover up crimes that have been done; many believers strive to cover up sins that they had committed against God. Very few will go to the level of murder as David had done, but many will harm others in the process with false accusations to change the focus off of themselves or to make themselves look better. Some will use their power and authority to remove another person to keep their sin from being exposed.

Covering sin up only delays when it will be dealt with. The more it is covered up, the greater the penalty will be. Ultimately the penalty will result in judgment of death for eternity by God.

Instead of covering up a sin, believers are to confess their sins and repent. God is always ready and willing to forgive what has been done wrong. Repenting will clean up a sin faster than any cover up will do.

You will make mistakes and fall into sin at different points in your life. Each time this occurs, you will have the option of dealing with that sin or attempting to cover it up. No matter how little or great your sin is, covering it up does nothing but delay judgment against you.

Own up to your sin and repent before God and anyone you have sinned against or that it involves. Allow for forgiveness and restoration to occur when repentance has been done. Whether another person will forgive you or not, God will, and He can work in the hearts of others.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will repent of any sins you have committed against God or others; that God will give you strength to own any sins you have done; and that God will restore anything broken from any sin committed.

Judges 9:56 A Price To Pay

Thus God repaid the wickedness that Abimelek had done to his father by murdering his seventy brothers. Judges 9:56

Everything has a price tag on it, whether physically and mentally. In order to enjoy something, there must be a price to be paid. Sometimes that price is very low, while other times it is extremely high.

Often people will enjoy certain things, believing that they are free and not realizing the price on it until later. Driving a car without adding gas will work for a time, but in the end it will result in being shut down on the side of a road.

Abimelek had murdered his seventy brothers in order to be king. In the end God had him killed to pay for the murders.

Sin always appears to be fun and free, with no price tag on it. People think that they are getting away with it because there is no immediate consequence. Many think that either God does not exist or that He does not care what they do.

Without repentance, sin has a price to pay that is higher than anyone would ever want to pay. The cost of sin is death, whether that sin is one minor sin, such as lust for someone, or it is a major sin of murdering seventy people. In God’s eyes both are the same.

God is patient and does not make a person pay the cost for sin immediately. He desires that the person repents and turns to Him for forgiveness and life. If, however, the person does not repent, in the end there will be judgement against him and eternal death.

Believers must first strive to flee all sin. If one does sin, he must be willing to repent of it immediately and to flee that sin and accept the forgiveness and life Jesus offers.

Do not allow yourself to purposefully choose to sin on a regular basis. Strive to allow God to change your heart and flee all sin. If you should sin, repent immediately and allow Jesus to cleanse you from all unrighteousness and sin.

Although it may appear that you are getting away with some sin, there will be a price of death someday. Do not allow that price to have to be paid by you, Jesus has already paid for it. Live the holy and righteous life Jesus provides for you.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will repent to God for all sins; that you will accept the forgiveness Jesus offers; that God will guide you in fleeing all sinful temptations; and that you will live holy and righteous before God.

Revelation 9:20-21 Refusing To Repent

The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood–idols that cannot see or hear or walk. Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts. Revelation 9:20-21

The world loves to live the way that it lives. They do not see bad situations as warnings as to how they are to change their bad patterns of living.

Most people live with the here and now attitude, not realizing the future dangers that are awaiting them.

John sees a vision of the future judgements of God being poured out upon the earth. After a world-wide plague kills many people and animals, the people still refuse to repent of their sinful ways.

Throughout history God has used disasters to attempt to get people to turn towards Him. Some of those disasters are direct judgements upon the people for what they are doing. Instead of seeing those disasters as a calling card to repent, most people continue to live in sin.

God never wants to destroy people, but wants them to turn towards Him, trusting Him and having a loving relationship with Him. He is willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen, including plagues and disasters.

Across America and the world, more and more people are living in more and more sin, and promoting those sins to a greater extent. They worship their golden idols and sexual immorality, with no apparent consequence. Regardless of the plagues that come, people continue to live in sin.

People need to repent of all sins and turn away from their sins before God chooses to pour out judgement upon them.

God may be using disasters in your life to get your attention upon Him. He has good plans for you, but you must be willing to turn from sin and follow Jesus with all of your heart, rejecting all sin.

Do not be like the world, embracing sin, but flee temptation to sin. Be holy as God is holy. If you choose to live in sin, as the world does, there will come a day of God’s final judgement upon you that will last for the rest of eternity.

Repent of your sins and turn from those sins while it is today.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that God will reveal to you sins that you need to repent of; that God will give you strength to resist temptations to sin; that you will see God’s hand at work in every disaster; and that you will live for God.

2 Chronicles 21:13 Prostitution And Murder

Storm on a road

But you have followed the ways of the kings of Israel, and you have led Judah and the people of Jerusalem to prostitute themselves, just as the house of Ahab did. You have also murdered your own brothers, members of your own family, men who were better than you. 2 Chronicles 21:13

As whole in most nations the acts of prostitution and murder are not acceptable practices. These actions are looked down upon and usually carries a punishment if caught.

These acts of prostitution is done on a regular basis in every nation by many people, although not the physical act. People sell their bodies and lives to get what they want, while claiming loyalty to another. The desires are for money, fame, material thing, positions, love, family, recognition, and more.

They also perform acts of murder upon wishing people were dead, cursing people, abortion, and physically killing people. Many of those who do these things appear to be good people in society. Very few people look down upon these actions, though they are still wrong.

Jehoram had become king of Judah and led the people back into sin and away from God. A prophet had come and accused him of leading the people into prostitution and murder. They had prostituted themselves against God. They claimed to be God’s people, but worshipped idols.

Thousands of people attend church on a regular basis and claim to be believers. While at the same time, selling out their soul to their job or some dream not honoring God.

When Jesus died upon the cross, every believer became a part of the bride to the Father. They were now married to God and were to remain loyal to Him in every area of their lives. While still claiming this relationship with God and attending church, many live in purposeful sin and rebellion against God.

They refuse to hold themselves accountable to God and sell their body and souls to the things of this world, hoping to get more. They are jealous and hating of others, causing murder in the heart.

If you are a child of God, you are the bride of Christ. Do not allow yourself to be defiled by living as the world does. Do not flirt with the world. Remain loyal and faithful to God for what He has already done for you.

Do not allow your self to be able to be accused of prostitution against God or murder. God has given you a new life.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will be dedicated to God alone; that you will not follow the ways of this world; and that your life will a sign of God’s great love.

Matthew 15:18 From the Heart

“For out of the heart come evil thoughts–murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.” Matthew 15:18

The Pharisees had just complained about the disciples eating without ceremonially cleaning their hands. Jesus rebukes them and points out that cleaning the hands is not the important part. The important part is cleansing of the heart.

In the mind of the people during Jesus time, the heart is the center of desires, feelings, actions, thoughts, beliefs…the center of a person. The heart shows what and who a person is.

Every thought and every action that you have is directly related to something in your heart. Your body cannot say or do anything without the heart being behind it.

Man is born with a sinful heart. Man wants to have his own way. This has not changed at all since Adam and Eve, and will never change.

Wanting your own way sounds good, until you bring God into the picture. God is the one who knows absolutely everything. He knows what is best in every situation.

As a human being, you are extremely limited in your knowledge. You only know the immediate moment and experience of the past. Since this is the case, you make choices in your heart that are not always right.

You may not go out and actually murder someone, but have you ever wished someone were dead? It is the same. Or how many times has there been sexual thoughts that were not correct?

Along with these “big” sins, there is boasting, pride, vengeance, lying are also common sins that come from the heart.

Many times people make some of these choices because of some situation in their life. In the eyes of the world, the choice may look good and right. This is not always true.

Only God knows all of the past, the present and the future. Since He knows all of this, only God can make the correct choices every time.

Allow God to clean the sin out of your heart. Allow God to give you a new heart that will honor Him. Let the words of your mouth and thoughts of your mind be honoring to God.

As you have a changed heart, your words and actions will follow. All your actions will begin to change and be what God desires.

I pray today that God will cleanse your heart of all sin; that you will allow God to give you a new heart; that all the words you speak will glorify God; and that God will give you the words and actions to build His kingdom.
