Isaiah 55:1-2 Eat And Drink The Best

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?” Isaiah 55:1-2

Being hungry and thirsty is something that every person has to deal with, some more than others. At times one will be more thirsty, in the hot summer time in the south, while at other times one may be more hungry. Most people can satisfy their physical hunger and thirst without too much problem, but both will return very soon.

However, there is another hunger and thirst that many people have that is much harder to be satisfied. It is hunger for meaning and satisfaction in life. Some people are always seeking a bigger, better thrill in life to keep them moving forward. Many turn to drugs and alcohol to be satisfied. Others may seek better jobs and positions, or maybe seeking peace, quiet and solitude to find meaning.

While all of these things can satisfy for a short time, they will not sustain a person in the long haul of life. Each of these things are temporary and wear off. After a time, the thrill of one thing will not be enough and more will be sought out.

God is calling people to take what He is giving to be satisfied. The life that Jesus is offering does not cost in the manner of money or hard labor. All it costs is accepting and giving your life to Him. In return you gain eternal life, peace, and satisfaction regardless of what is going on in your life or in this world.

In order to eat and drink what God is offering, you must get into His Word, the Bible. Read it and get to know who God is and what He has for you. Then step out in trust and do what His word says.

As you do these things, you will find satisfaction that will stay with you and not end in a few hours. As you continue to live for God, you will find purpose and meaning for your life that will satisfy better than anything this world has to offer.

Don’t labor for what does not satisfy, try God.

I pray today that you will know God; that you will hunger for His Word; that you will be satisfied with God alone in your life; that you will find purpose in serving God; and that God will meet all of your needs.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 The Duty Of Every Person

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

Solomon started out this book stating that everything is meaningless. As one reads through it, he shows how worthless everything is in this life. People are born, they live for a while and they die. There does not appear to be any meaning in this life for what a person goes through.

As he finishes the book, he points out that everything has been considered and he came up with a conclusion. That conclusion is that the whole purpose of every person on this earth is to fear God and obey Him.

Having this viewpoint in a person’s life, puts God as the One who is in absolute control of everything and knows what is best for everyone. In the end this will be seen when God brings every deed into judgment. This is not just the deeds that are physically seen, but those that are hidden behind closed doors, or are hidden inside the thoughts of the mind.

This judgment will also include all deeds, both the good ones and the sinful ones. God is not just one-sided, He looks at everything, the whole person.

Some people may now say that keeping His commandments is difficult. On the surface this appears to be true, but if you really look at it, there are only two commandments to really keep. Those commandments are: love God, and love your neighbor.

If you are showing true love to God and your neighbor, you will not do anything to harm either one in any way. This includes harmful thoughts in the quiet of your mind, along with the physical actions many do.

Many people are searching for a purpose in this world. You may be searching for your purpose in this world. Now you know what it is: love God and love your neighbors.

Show your love to God and your neighbors by telling them about Jesus and what Jesus has done and will do for them. Be the witness of Jesus to this world today. That is what Jesus did and wants you to do today.

I pray today that you will know God’s purpose for your life; that you will see the opportunities to be His witness; that you will love God; and that you will show God’s love to everyone else.

Ephesians 2:10 Finding Purpose In Life

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

People everywhere are trying to find out their purpose in this life. This occurs from young middle school children, all the way through senior citizen adults. Everyone wants to know why they are there and what they are to do.

Various people have “found” their purpose in different things. Some find it in their workplace, others in their family, or sports, or a hobby, or education. There are some that find purpose in standing up for the rights of other people in the government systems around the world.

While many have found their purpose, there are many more who have not. Thousands of people commit suicide every year because of not having any purpose in life. They feel like their life is worthless and no one cares about them. They have not found their purpose in life.

Paul calls every person God’s handiwork. Every person was created by God. When God created a person, He did it with the thought that some day that person would follow Jesus and have a purpose in life, to do good works. God already had that person’s days laid out. There was to be meaning and purpose in life.

As a believer you can know what that purpose is. You are to ask God for wisdom in your life. This will help you know your purpose. Jesus said that He sent the Holy Spirit to guide you in your life.

God will show you the plans He has made for you. He will give you purpose and meaning to your life. It is different for each person, yet the overall purpose will always to be more like Jesus, love God, love others, and build His kingdom by being His witness.

The ways of doing these things are as numerous as the sand grains on the seashore. Use every opportunity in life to accomplish one of these areas in your life. This will give you purpose that is meaningful and eternal. The things of this world are only temporary. Don’t seek temporary purpose, but the eternal purpose in Christ Jesus.

I pray today that God will reveal to you His purpose for you for today; that you will step up to the purpose God has for you; that you will find meaning in life in Christ Jesus; and that you will be His witness daily to every person you meet.

John 3:6 Spiritual Birth

“Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.” John 3:6

Nicodemus, one of the leading Pharisees, came to Jesus to ask Him some questions. He noticed that there was something different about Jesus and that God must be working in and through Him. Jesus then tells him about the need to be born again. As anyone would be, Nicodemus was confused and asked how that could happen. Jesus talked about the need to be born of the Spirit.

Every human mother has always given birth to another human. No human has ever given birth to anyone different or anything different. It is the natural way of things.

Along with the birth of humans, every person on the earth has given birth to worldly pleasures in their own life. The world does not know how to give birth to real life.

The life the world looks at and thinks is life, is in reality death. It is a slow death that will last for eternity. The pleasures of this world only last a short time and then are over.

Men and women have searched for meaning and pleasure in life. No matter what is found it has always been an empty meaning and pleasure. All the good words, self-help books, and good moral teachings will leave a person short of real life. Only in Jesus can there be found any meaning or real pleasure.

Many churches have even bought into this type of thinking. They try to make the church look fun and good to the world rather than pointing people to Jesus. It is the sinner-friendly church. There is no real spiritual change in their lives. Only Jesus can bring about real life.

God is Spirit. Only He can give life to the spirit of a person. When God gives this new life to a person through belief in Jesus, that person is truly living life and knows true meaning and purpose in this life.

Are you born of the Spirit? Or are you just born of the flesh? Are you telling others about being born of the Spirit? Or are you just speaking the ways of this world?

I pray today that you will know true spiritual birth in Jesus; that you will be spiritually alive; that you will turn from all sinful ways; and that you will turn from sinful fleshly desires.

John 1:31Reason For What You Do

“I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed in Israel.” John 1:31

John the Baptist was going around baptizing people. He was calling them to a life of repentance and turning back to God. As he was doing this he also stated that someone greater than himself was coming. His whole purpose in baptizing the people was to reveal the one to come, who was Jesus. When Jesus appeared, John quickly pointed all the people to Him.

People all over the world are looking for a purpose in this life. Many cannot seem to find any purpose for their being. They lose hope and give up. There are many who give up to the point of committing suicide.

Others will turn to things to cope with having no purpose. Drugs, sex, food, porn, careers, and many other things are what people find their purpose in. All of these things are temporary. Although some, like food and careers, can be good, they cannot give the true purpose for the life of a person.

God made man to have a relationship with Him and to point others to Jesus. Everything that you say and do is for these two purposes.

John was baptizing people to reveal Jesus. What are you doing today to reveal Jesus?

God has placed you in a position at a job in order to reveal Jesus in that workplace. God has placed you in the checkout line at the grocery store to reveal Jesus to someone. God has placed you in the hospital for you to reveal Jesus to those there.

Whenever you do something, do not do it just because it needs to be done or to earn a paycheck. Do not do it just for yourself. Be willing to do it for an opportunity to point someone to Jesus. Use every opportunity you can to point people to Jesus.

Lift Jesus up. Show the world who He is. Do not be selfish in what you do. Allow everything to be done for the glory of God.

I pray today that God will reveal ways to show Jesus to others; that God will reveal His purpose for you today; that you will see God’s purpose in everything that occurs in your life; that you will be a witness of who Jesus is; and that God will build His kingdom through you.
