John 6:27 What Are You Working For?

Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father as placed his seal of approval. John 6:27

Every day millions of people go to work around the world. Their goal in working is to provide the need or desired money. This money is desired to have in order to get the food they eat, clothes they wear and toys they want.

Some have very simple tastes in what they want, so don’t work that much. Others are willing to put in extreme hours to get high-dollar items.

Shortly after feeding about 5,000 people, the people found Jesus again. He tells them not to work for food that spoils, but for food that will last for eternity.

While every person needs food, clothing and shelter, these things are not the most important things in life. All of these things are very temporary. Shortly after eating food, a person needs more. Clothes wear out after a short time. Housing will eventually fall apart. None of them last for eternity.

The only thing that lasts for eternity is the souls of men. Although Jesus fed and healed thousands of people, when He walked on the earth, that was not His primary focus. His focus of work was to do God’s will to save the souls of people.

Over the centuries God has not changed that focus of work. Every believer has a commission to preach the gospel message and make disciples. They are to be working for God at reaching the lost, focusing on what is eternal.

God gave His seal of approval upon Jesus because He was doing His will. God will also put His seal of approval on every believer who is doing His will.

As you go through your days, ask yourself what is your focus or goal. It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day living for temporary things.

Ask God what work you can do that will have an eternal impact. Then be willing to do what God places before you. Don’t allow yourself to be focused on the temporal dead things of this earth.

Aim for the things that will last for eternity–the souls of men and women. Put all your efforts in being His witness and making disciples as you work for the needed food, clothing and shelter.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the work God has for you to do; that you will be His witness; that you will make disciples for Jesus; and that your work will see eternal results for God.

Luke 11:23 Are You With Or Against God?

“Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.” Luke 11:23

Being with someone requires that the person follows and agrees with the other person. If both do not walk and talk in agreement with each other, they are really not together.

Many businesses require that their workers agree to their policies in order to work there. The policies will line out what their goals and expectations are for each worker. Each worker can decide for themselves if they will work with the boss or against. This often decides if they will even get hired or if they will be able to continue with the job.

Jesus just talked about a kingdom being divided. He now says that if is anyone not with Him or gathering with Him is against Him.

It is easy to say that someone believes in and follows Jesus. However, it is entirely something to actually believe in and follow Jesus.

There are many who claim to believe in Jesus, yet continue to live a full life of sin, refusing to repent and turn from some sins. Others will claim to believe in and follow Jesus, yet, are not being a witness or discipling others to be like Jesus.

In both cases they are not really with God, but against God. They are in rebellion against what Jesus had told them to do and how to be.

The true believer will be walking alongside Jesus striving to be more like Him, both in character and in action. They will put on the righteousness and holiness of Jesus. They will go out and gather in people to believe in and follow Jesus. They will make disciples of all men, women and children.

It is a choice of being with God or with the world.

You have to choose who you are with in this world. Jesus set the example of how you are to live and act. As a believer it is no longer up for option as to how you live and act, you must live and act as Jesus did.

Examine your life and see if you are striving to be more like Jesus or more like the world. Are you being with Jesus or with the world? Are you gathering with Jesus or gathering with the world?

How you answer these questions determines if you are with God or not.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will live as Jesus lived; that you will walk with God each day; that you will be a witness for Jesus; and that you will do the works Jesus did.
