2 Corinthians 4:16 Don’t Lose Heart, It Will Get Better

getting old

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 1 Corinthians 4:16

Looking around the world, things do not always look very good. There is trouble and pain everywhere one looks. People are getting sick, people are dying, people are hungry, people are without clothes, people are at war, and the list goes on.

Along with what most of the world does not like and thinks is bad, are the things that God is looking at. Sin abounds and appears to be growing more rapidly than ever before. Certain sins that were never talked about are now openly being promoted and expected, not only in the world, but also in the church.

There are many believers who are working hard at reaching those in the world. They strive to spread the gospel to everyone they meet. Yet, sometimes it looks like as though they are not making any progress.

Then there are the problems that a believer faces in his own life. He repents of a sin and works to stay from it, but falls back into that sin. It appears as if he will never stop sinning. And every person, believer or not, faces the body getting old and breaking down. It is frustrating and discouraging and many lose heart.

Paul faced all of this, yet said that they do not lose heart. Regardless of what is going on in this body or this world, a believer must never lose heart. God is still in control and at work.

The believer is constantly being renewed each day on the inside. God is working daily to make the believer into someone more like Jesus. It is a slow, but steady process that will take a life time to complete.

Inside the believer is always the hope of eternity with God. The troubles of this world are only temporary and will end some day.

You, along with every believer, is someone on this path in this life. Keep your eyes focused on Jesus and the eternity that He has promised you. Do not get discouraged and lose heart because of the way this world looks, or what you are going through.

Even though your body may be breaking down or sin appears to be more prevalent, God is with you. He is building you up. Don’t give up, you are being renewed!

I pray today that you will see God’s work in you; that you will focus on Jesus; that you will trust God’s work; that you will know the hope you have in Jesus; and that you will share that hope you have in Jesus with others.

Jeremiah 51:46 Do Not Fear Rumors

Do not lose heart or be afraid when rumors are heard in the land; one rumor comes this year, another the next, rumors of violence in the land and of ruler against ruler. Jeremiah 51:46

While the Israelites were in Babylon under captivity, God told them that there was coming a day when He would destroy Babylon and they would be set free. During that time He gave warning that there would be many different rumors. Rumors that would strike fear in the hearts of many people, however, they were not to be afraid at all.

Thousands of years later, rumors are something that still runs rampant in this world. With the speed of information at lightning fast, rumors spread even easier. News sources are not always to be fully trusted as to telling what is really happening. Many times the news is slanted to push an agenda. Facebook is filled with stories of pictures and articles of things happening, many of which may not be true.

One area that rumors run heavy on is of war and destruction. Fear of attacks from terrorists are constantly in the news. Fear of foreigners runs high, because of terrorism.

As you hear all these rumors, you must keep in mind that God is in control. God knows exactly what is happening at the moment. It may be God is using an enemy to strike a nation, in order to get their eyes back on Him.

As a believer, everything that occurs is for a purpose. It is the purpose to get your eyes back on God, or to build you up stronger in the Lord. When rumors of war, destruction, death, economic collapse, or anything else occurs, turn to God and seek Him. Seek God’s protection in and through it all.

Some of those rumors may never occur, while others will happen. Either way, God is not surprised or worried. If He is not surprised or worried, then neither should you be.

Do not think, that because of all these rumors, God is not in control or does not care. He does. There will come a day when either you will be called home to heaven, or Jesus will return and take you home to heaven. Rumors will never change that fact.

I pray today that God will calm your heart in fearful times; that you will know that God is in control; that you will not fear any rumors or news that you hear; and that your complete trust will be in God.

Hebrews 12:3 Don’t Grow Weary

“Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:3

Every believer has times of challenges. Many of those challenges cannot be linked to a single person, but are just the challenges of life. Some of these challenges are vehicle break-downs, bills due, sickness and injuries. These are difficulties that cannot be blamed on a single person.

The other types of challenges that believers will face is opposition of non-believers. These can come in a very wide variety of ways. Although not common in America, it can come in direct violence to a person. A non-believer physically harms a believer for what they believe in.

The more common way is in words and side actions. It is very common to hear someone make derogatory remarks about someone who believes in Jesus. Watch television or movies and see how often Christians are made fun of and cut down for what they believe.

Another way that can happen but is hard to directly see or prove is overlooking a promotion at a work place. There are non-believing bosses who take actions against a believer because of his belief.

This can also happen in other areas where the believer is over-looked for something or dismissed because of his beliefs. In public meetings, there have been times where a believer is totally dismissed just because of their belief.

Regardless of how the attacks come it can hurt a person. You will feel the pain. At times these attacks will be one right after the other, wearing you down. The author of Hebrews states that you must think about Jesus and what He went through.

Jesus was accused of following the devil, breaking the Sabbath, and even blasphemy. None of these things were true. In the end, He had to suffer the pain of being crucified for something He did not do. Yet, through it all Jesus remained faithful to God and trusted in Him.

Keep Jesus in mind while you are going through attacks. If He can hang in there through what He went through and did not give up. Do not grow weary or lose heart. God can and will give you the strength to keep going if you keep your eyes and faith on Him.

I pray today that God will strengthen you in all challenges you face; that you will not grow weary of following Jesus; that you will not lose heart in the promises God has made; and that you will be a witness for Jesus in everything.
