Acts 19:15 Who Are You?

One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” Acts 19:15

Nearly every person is known for something by somebody. Some of the most common titles people are known by are: mom, dad, father, mother, employee, friend, neighbor, spouse, and co-worker. People like to be known by what they do.

Another way people can be known is by their character. This gives the true description of who they are. It will often determine how well they are at other things that they can do.

As some sons of Sceva were trying to cast some demons out of a man in the name of Paul and Jesus, the demons asked them a question. The demons said they knew Paul and Jesus, but wondered who they were and then beat the sons up.

It is easy for a person to claim to believe in Jesus. It is also easy for a person to attempt to do the work of God on his own. However, it is a different thing to truly believe in Jesus, work and walk in His power and abilities.

Some will claim to believe in Jesus, but have extreme doubts when they claim the promises of God. Others will claim to believe in Jesus, while at the same time living purposefully in open, rebellious sin against God.

Living in either of these two ways is not really living for God. It is living a lie and the demonic world knows it. The world is often able to see through the lies being portrayed and will question it.

When a person is truly believing in Jesus and striving to live according to God’s ways, the world and the demons will know who he really is. They will see the power of God working in and through him.

You may never have the opportunity to cast demons out of a person, but you will have opportunities to do the works of God. You will have an opportunity to be His witness in this world in many different ways.

As you speak God’s promises to others or for yourself, you may be asked, ‘who are you?’. Only you can answer that question.

Ask yourself that question today and find out who you are. Do you truly believe in and trust the words of God in your life? Do you truly strive to live a holy life for God? Who are you?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will believe in God’s word and power; that you will do the works of God; that the world will know you as a child of God; and that the world will know you have the power of God working in and through you.

Acts 19:15 Who Are You?

One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” Acts 19:15

Knowing a person’s name is one thing, but really knowing the person is completely different. It is common for thousands of people to know about some famous actor. They can talk about many public things he has done, his birthday, age, and some other details. However, very few actually know him.

The famous people will very rarely know the names of most of their fans. There is nothing to make the fan stand out and be known.

There were some sons of Sceva trying to cast out some demons by using the names of Jesus and Paul. The demons knew Jesus and Paul, but did not know the sons and later beats them down.

In a war, each side is aware of certain people or groups. They know who really knows what is going on and how to fight the battle. The enemy often knows who is really a threat and who to ignore.

There is a spiritual war going on everyday, all over the world. This is a battle of the demonic world led by Satan against the armies (believers) of God.

Some people will claim to believe in Jesus, but are not really living for God or obeying Him. These are people who are dressed in battle gear, but have no real power. The enemy does not know who they are.

Every believer who lives for and obeys God is dressed in the armor of God. He will have God’s Holy Spirit residing in him, giving him authority and power over the enemy. Walking and living this way will make his name known to the enemy as a real threat.

You may claim to be a believer in and a follower of Jesus. The real test is if you allow God’s Holy Spirit to guide you and that you obey Jesus.

Do not allow yourself to go out each day as a believer in Jesus just in word only. Jesus saved you and gave His Holy Spirit to you so that you may be a warrior on the frontlines of this spiritual war.

As you trust in and obey God, you will receive power and authority over the enemy. You will become known to the enemy as a real threat. Ask yourself, before the enemy does, who you are?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know who you are in Christ; that you will be filled with the Holy Spirit; that you will be God’s warrior against the enemy; and that the enemy will know you belong to God.

Ezekiel 48:35 The Lord Is There

“The distance all around will be 18,000 cubits. And the name of the city from that time on will be: THE LORD IS THERE.” Ezekiel 48:35

The very last chapter of the book of Ezekiel is a description of the size and dimensions of a new city. This will be the city of God that will last forever. It is where God will dwell with His people and its gates are one for each of the tribes of Israel.

Each city in the world is usually known for something. Los Angeles is known for trolleys, hills, and Hollywood. New York is known for Broadway, the Big Apple, and the Bronx. San Antonio is known for the Alamo and the various missions. Berlin is known for the wall. Rome is known for the Catholic church and the pope. Amsterdam is known for tulips and drugs. Paris is known for art and the waterways. Each one has some things that they are known for that are good, while some things are bad.

Every person who lives on this earth has something that they are known for also. When a person’s name is mentioned, a thought comes to other people’s minds who know that person. Some good things are that the person is generous, or a good singer, or funny, or caring, or a hard worker, or some other thing that brings a smile to others.

Others do not bring a smile to people’s faces when their name is mentioned. They are known for lying, stealing, drugs, cheating and the list goes on also.

As a believer in Jesus, you should be known for something also. When your name is mentioned, it should cause people to think of you as they will talk about the new city–The Lord Is There.

When you accepted Jesus as your Savior and repented of your sins, God made His home in you. He is there to dwell with you forever.

By your actions and words, people will know that God is there with you. They will see His love shining through. They will see His blessings pouring in and through you.  However, this can only happen if you allow God to work in and through you.

As people look at you, what do they see? Do they see just another person, like everyone else?

Or do they see where God dwells?

I pray today that you will allow God to live in you; that you will allow God to work through you; that God will shine in your life; and that people will see Jesus in you.
