Ezra 1:2 Recognize Who Gave It

City in mountains

This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: ‘The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah.’ Ezra 1:2

People receive things all the time. Recognizing who gave it does not always occur. Often people think that they got it completely on their own. They are unwilling to recognize who helped them along the way. They become a one-man show in life.

Wealthy people do not get their wealth completely on their own. They come up with some idea, but others work for them to make it possible. If others did not work for them, they would be very seriously limited in how much they could earn.

God had destroyed the nation of Judah and put the people into captivity in Persia. Cyrus was the king at the time. Immediately he recognized that God had given him all the nations that he had possessed. He gave God the credit for what He had and so He was going to have the temple built in Jerusalem to worship God at.

It is easy for people to forget how they got what they have. Most often people think that they got everything that they have on their own, without any help. While help from people in this world can go a long ways, a greater help is from God.

God is the One who oversees everything that occurs upon this earth. There is nothing that He does not have control of. He is the One who moves people to do things to help others in ways not directly seen. He is able to use those who follow Him and those who do not follow Him to fulfill His desires.

Believers are the first to recognize that it is God who is in control. It is God who is the provider of everything.

Everything that you have has been given to you by God or God has allowed you to have it. Without His hand of provision or allowance, you could not have it.

Through Jesus you have been given all power and authority in heaven and on earth. You have been given all the kingdoms of this earth. The purpose of this is to be His witness and to build His kingdom, to build temples to worship God.

You did not get all this on your own, it is only through the work of Jesus. Recognize this and give Him the praise.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will recognize God’s hand at work in your life; that you will recognize God’s provision in your life; and that you will build a temple in your heart to worship God.

Daniel 7:27 Future Power And Authority

Then the sovereignty, power, and greatness of all the kingdoms under heaven will be handed over to the holy people of the Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will worship and obey him. Daniel 7:27

While the nation of Israel has been brought into captivity, Daniel receives a vision of the future. God reveals to Him what Jesus will accomplish. In the end, Jesus will be the sovereign ruler of the entire world. As the supreme ruler, He will hand over all the kingdoms of the earth to all the believers. At that point, every ruler on the earth will worship and obey Him.

When a person looks around at all the nations of the world today, he will see very little unity and no one person in absolute control. There is chaos, fighting and wars everywhere one looks. Sinning against God is rampant and promoted everywhere. At times it appears as though no one is even attempting to serve God at all. Churches seem to be dying at a rapid rate and no one cares. A person may wonder if God is really in control.

Even though it seems no one is following God and that God is not in control, it is not true. God still has a remnant of believers in this world who are faithfully serving Him. Jesus had stated that the road to heaven is narrow and only a few will find it.

God is still at work to this day. He is working to save as many as possible and holding off the final judgment against all mankind. Despite what people may think, that day is coming. Once Jesus returns and judges the world, He will be in absolute control, with everyone, who is left, serving Him. At that point, all the power and authority of all the kingdoms will be handed over to all the believers. Peace and unity will reign on the earth.

As you are going through your day-to-day living, it may seem like chaos and that God is not in control. It may seem hopeless and never coming to an end. Keep your eyes on Jesus, looking for His return. There will come a day when all the sin and chaos of this world will come to an end. It is closer today than it was when Daniel saw His vision, and it is still true.

I pray today that you will know God’s peace in your life; that you will serve and obey God with all of your life; that you will know Jesus will return someday soon; and that you will be His witness on this earth.

Matthew 4:10 Get Away

“Jesus said to him, Away from me, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.” Matthew 4:10

Satan now takes Jesus up to a high mountain and presents to Him all the kingdoms of the world. He offers Jesus all these kingdoms in exchange for just one thing: Jesus must boy down and worship him.

Jesus had come to the world to save the entire world. What better way could there be to get the entire world than to be handed it? This may sound good, but this is not the way God the Father had planned to gain the kingdoms of the world. If Jesus would have bowed down to Satan, His integrity and words would have been destroyed.

An interesting note in this is that Satan really does not own those kingdoms. Satan may have control over them because those kingdoms are following him, but it is really God who owns everything. God has the true control of everything.

In this third temptation, Jesus answers in a way to get rid of Satan completely. He quotes Deuteronomy 6:3 that everyone is to worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.

Many times the world will present to you a gift that looks or sounds very good. The problem is that the only way in order to receive that gift you must “worship” something.

A job may be offered to you with extremely great benefits, but will cost you time away from family and church. The car dealership offers you “easy” payments on a new car, but it will cost you paying your tithe and gifts to God. These things are what you would end up worshipping since it takes you away from what God wants.

You are to worship and serve God alone. If you serve God with a whole heart, you will serve others correctly. Do not worship any thing other than God.

Just like Jesus you must tell Satan to get away. Do not try to argue or debate Satan or the world, just tell them to go if they are not having you work in God’s plan. God has a plan for you…follow it, not the world’s plan to set you up. Worship and serve only God in everything you say and do. Tell Satan to go away and run the other direction.

I pray today that God will strengthen you to say no to all temptations; that you will worship God alone; that you will serve God with all your life; that God will open your eyes to temptations presented to you; and that God will fill you with His Holy Spirit to strengthen and guide your every step.
