Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.” John 19:11
Power is something that a lot of people think that they have in and of themselves. Controlling people is what they love to do. Many will use their positions to control people, while others will use physical force.
With both of these ways of controlling people, the feeling that they are the ones who have the authority and power to do so is true for both.
Pilate asked Jesus if He realized that he had the power to crucify Him. Jesus told him that the only power he has was given from God.
God is the Creator who created everything and every person on this planet and in this universe. Since He is the Creator of everything, then He is also the only one with real power.
In and of himself, man does not have any abilities or power at all, and neither do the demonic powers of this earth. Every ability, whether good or bad, is given by God.
It is common for many believers to have struggles with other people on this earth. Those who are in ‘authority’ make life difficult for believers, trying to tell them what they can and cannot do. Since this occurs, many believers get angry with God because of these people.
God uses every person and every situation for the building up of His people. This may mean that a difficult leader is in the life of a believer causing problems. God has allowed that person to do something to build His follower up.
Instead of fighting back, the believer must trust in God and do what He says. God used Pilate to crucify Jesus to save the world.
You have leaders in your life that are difficult to be around. They appear to make your life miserable. One thing to remember is that person in your life only has the power and authority that God has given him.
Seek to understand how God is using that person in your life. Also seek to know how you can be a witness to that person. Outside of the authority that God gave that person, he has no real power.
Do not fear that person, but trust God.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the control God has in this world; that you will understand the authority God gives all people; and that God will help you remove all fear of people.
