2 Chronicles 13:10 Who Is Your God?

As for us, the Lord is our God, and we have not forsaken him. The priests who serve the Lord are sons of Aaron, and the Levites assist them. 2 Chronicles 13:10

Throughout the world there are many different religions that worship many different gods. Some of these are completely unseen gods, while others are made into forms of statues. In some nations people are required to worship a certain god, while in most nations people are allowed to choose which god they want to have.

Abijah told Jeroboam that he and his people have God as their God and that they have not forsaken Him, and that the sons of Aaron and the Levites assist them in serve God.

Following the gods of the world is following a dead lead. There is no life in those gods, and they cannot do anything for anyone. Anyone relying upon those gods will be disappointed and will lose in the end.

While the world believes in many gods, believers are to believe in and serve only God, the creator of the heavens and the earth, the giver of all life. However, just believing in God does not provide what one needs in this life. Many have chosen to forsake God and not fully obey His commands. They dabble in the ways of the world and follow false gods when it is convenient and goes their way.

Those who truly believe in God will serve and obey Him in every area of their lives. They will not choose to forsake Him when things are tough, or under peer-pressure, or when presented a false god. Believing in God this way will give one assurance and strength in times of trouble, because He is alive and is a helper.

You will be tempted by the world to follow false gods, or to put things or people above God. The world will strive to get you to believe in other gods or things to take the place of God.

Focus your heart and life upon God and His word. Obey His commands and serve Him. Do not allow yourself to forsake Him and walk away from Him and disobey His commands. God will never leave you, nor forsake you. He is the only one true God that is alive, unlike the false gods of this world.

Make God the God of your whole life, not just on Sundays or when things are rough.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will serve God alone; that you will never forsake God and His commands; that you will obey all of God’s commands; and that you will tell the world about God.

1 Kings 15:26 Whose Ways Do You Follow?

He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, following the ways of his father and committing the same sin his father had caused Israel to commit. 1 Kings 15:26

Everyone learns from someone. What they learn is determined by who they learn it from. Usually, one of the greatest influences on a person’s life is the father. Unless an outside influence affects them, sons will very often grow up with a lot of the same characteristics of their father, whether good or bad, right or wrong and whether they really want it or not.

When Jeroboam died, his son, Nadab, became king of Judah. He did the same evil in the eyes of the Lord as Jeroboam had done and caused Israel to commit sin.

As the physical father and other people can have a great influence in the life of person, it does not need to be this way. The world will only follow what it can see and understand, often this leads into sin and greater sin. The earthly fathers are sinners and may not be following God with all of their heart or none of their heart at all.

Once a person becomes a believer and a follower of Jesus, he must focus on following God with all of his heart, mind, soul and strength. God should be the greatest influence in one’s life that rises above everyone and everything else in this fallen world. The earthly father may have some good characteristics but may still lead down the wrong pathway.

God the ultimate best Father will lead in a way that leads to life, eternal life. There will never be a leading into sin and death. Believers must follow God’s ways above any other person’s ways, even the physical father, to be kept from living in sinful ways.

Your physical father may have had a great influence on you or may not have, just as someone else may have had influence upon you. Do not allow those influences to pull you away from God and His ways of living.

Put all of your focus and trust in God, not in the things, people and ways of this world. Learn His ways of living, because they are perfect and will lead to eternal life, not death.

Without God’s Spirit leading you, you will turn to sin and evil, bringing about death.

Whose ways are you following?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will follow the ways of God with all of your life; that you will know how God wants you to live your life; that you will allow God’s Spirit to guide you in life; and that you will live a holy and righteous life before God and man.

1 Kings 14:8 Despising God’s Blessings

I tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you, but you have not been like my servant David, who kept my commands and followed me with all his heart, doing only what was right in my eyes. 1 Kings 14:8

When a person is given something by someone else, he is expected to honor the gift and the person who gave it. It is not expected that he will throw out the gift, nor talk bad about the person who gave it. Acting in this way will be considered rude, inconsiderate and ungrateful.

Ahijah had brought word to King Jeroboam that God had taken the kingdom from the family of David and gave it to him, but he chose to refuse to obey God and follow Him with all of his heart.

Blessings come from God on a daily basis to those who are willing to follow Him. While some of the greatest blessings are not physical, many are physical blessings. Often those blessings are things taken from those in the world not following Him, to bless His people.

Recognizing that those blessings came from the Lord is the first step in honoring God with those blessings. Many feel as though they got the blessings themselves or that they deserve those blessings.

When this occurs, many will choose to continue in the ways of the world, turning to false gods, rather than to God. They begin to trust in the blessings and themselves, rather than trusting in God and obeying God with all of their heart, despising the blessing that was given to them.

True believers will recognize what God has given them and honor God with all of their heart, soul, mind and strength. Turning away to false gods will not be an option in their lives.

If you take time to examine your life, you will most likely be able to see how God has blessed you in many ways. Some of those ways are with things that He has taken from the world and given to you.

In your time of blessing, do not despise His gifts to you and turn back to the ways of the world. Just as quickly as He gave you those gifts, God can remove them. Show gratefulness to God by choosing to obey His word and doing what is right in His eyes.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know what God has given you; that you will honor God with all of your life; that God will give you strength to do what is right in His eyes; and that God will guide you in using what He has blessed you with for His glory and honor.
