Jeremiah 42:6 Obey The Lord’s Word

Whether it is favorable or unfavorable, we will obey the Lord our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it will go well with us, for we will obey the Lord our God. Jeremiah 42:6

When asking for guidance and direction, people want to only hear good news. Very rarely is a person willing to hear something negative, something that they have to change or stop doing.

As a person hears most guidance, they will pick and choose what they want to obey or do and what they do not want to do. It is all about comfort and self as to what they will be willing to do, often disregarding the advice given.

After the city of Jerusalem had fallen and the people were taken into captivity, some of the officials approached Jeremiah. They wanted to know what God’s directions were for them. They requested that he find out and let them know and they would obey it.

Every week people go to church to hear a pastor preach a sermon. They go expecting to hear a word from God that the minister has heard and is passing on. They hear the word, but then do nothing with it.

Many will think that the given word is not really for them and that it is best for their neighbor. Or they get angry with the preacher because it is a negative word telling them to stop something or change something.

Reading and hearing God’s word is good, but it is not enough. One must also apply it and obey it. God has given all of His word to guide and direct the steps of those who follow Him. Sometimes that word will be a negative word to turn a person from sin. Other times it will be a positive word encouraging the believer. Regardless all of it must be heeded.

Each time you hear God’s word or read it, you have a choice to be made. You have to choose whether you will obey it or ignore it. There are consequences of both actions.

If you choose to ignore it and not obey God’s word, then why did you listen or read it?

Choose today who you will serve, self or God? If it is God, then listen to and obey His word, whether it is a favorable or unfavorable word. God will only give you what is best for you and nothing more or less.

I pray today that you will hear and know God’s word to you; that you will obey what God tells you; that you will serve God with all of your heart; and that you will trust God’s word to you.
