Deuteronomy 7:26 Keep The Trash Out

Do not bring a detestable thing into your house or you, like it, will be set apart for destruction. Regard it as vile and utterly detest it, for it is set apart for destruction. Deuteronomy 7:26

Everyday people all over the world accumulate trash that needs to be tossed out. Most people gather it together and put it in the trashcan to be removed and hauled to a dump. Very few people like to have trash sitting around in their house.

The few people that don’t mind trash all over their house are rejected or looked down upon by most others.

God told the Israelites that they were not to bring anything that was detestable into their house. If they did, they would be set apart for destruction. It was to be rejected and set apart to be destroyed.

While most believers are unwilling to have physical trash in their house, many are willing to bring trash into their homes and lives on a daily basis. The trash that they bring in is the sinful things they allow to enter their home.

Movies are watched by many believers that contain sexual scenes, pornography, promotion of sin as good, rejection of God, filthy words, senseless murder, witchcraft, and much more. In same way music is listened to that contains filthy words, rejection of God, promotion of sinful activities, sexual promiscuity, and much more.

Often believers say that it is just a little thing, but God sees sin as utterly detestable and needs to be destroyed at all costs.

True believers that want to honor God with their lives, will strive to not bring sin into their lives. They will flee sin and run to God. They will find contentment in the holy things of God, rather than the sinful things of this fallen world.

Take an honest inventory of what you allow in your home and life. Whether it is just a little thing or something big, all sin is extremely horrible and worthy only of death and destruction.

Satan and the world desire to cause you to step into sin. They want you to bring some of their sin into your life to cause you to slip away from God.

Rather than be set apart for destruction, reject the sin of this world and run to God and grab onto the things of God. Set your life and home to be holy unto God.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal sinful things that are in your life; that God will give you strength to reject all sin in your life; and that you will live holy and righteous before God.

Leviticus 27:28 Devoted, Holy To God

But nothing that a person owns and devotees to the Lord–whether a human being or an animal or family land–may be sold or redeemed; everything so devoted is most holy to the Lord. Leviticus 27:28

Throughout the world there are many people who give things to others or to organizations to help people. Some will often dedicate a portion to be given on a regular basis.

There are some people who have dedicated something to an organization, only to want it back or choose not to give it in the end. There are many reasons why they do this, but overall, what was dedicated is not given.

God told the Israelites that whatever anyone dedicates to the Lord, it must not be sold or redeemed, but is to be most holy to Him.

It is common to hear of believers who promise to give a certain amount of their paycheck on a regular basis to a church or some missions work, but then quickly stop giving it. The dedicated portion is held back for personal needs or desires, rather than given it to God as promised.

At the moment a person promises to give God something, that promise cannot be rescinded or taken back. Every promise must be fulfilled, regardless of the cost of it. God will honor everything given to Him from the heart, whether it costs a lot or little.

One thing that every believer must dedicate to God as holy is his own life. Everything that he thinks, says and does must be dedicated to God and not taken back. He must never take his life back and deliver it to the world of sin, rejecting God and His commands, he is to be devoted and most holy to God, not to this world.

The moment you chose to believe in Jesus, you dedicated your life to God as most holy unto Him. Jesus cleansed you from all sin and made you holy. Do not take back your life and give it to the world and sin against God. Remain devoted and holy to God in all that you think, say and do.

As you give your life to God, He will in return give you an abundant life full of His peace and joy that the world cannot provide.

Who or what are you devoted to? Is it to God or to self and this world?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will devote your whole life to God; that you will not try to take back your life from God; and that God will strengthen you to not follow the ways of this world.

Exodus 39:30 Set Apart To The Lord

They made the plate, the sacred emblem, out of pure gold and engraved on it, like an inscription on a seal: HOLY TO THE LORD. Exodus 39:30

Most people do not like to be set apart as different. People like to blend in and go with the crowd, even when they know the crowd is going the wrong direction.

Being different often means one is going alone or a different direction. This can be lonely and often dangerous. Others will often fight against or ridicule one going a different path. It can be seen as selfish or rebellious.

A gold plate with the words, “HOLY TO THE LORD” was made and placed upon the turban for the priest to wear.

In the Bible, to be holy was to be set apart as different and given to God. The priests were pulled out from the tribes of Israel as being different and holy unto God.

When Jesus offered Himself as a sacrifice for all sin, He assigned all believers to be holy to the Lord. The seal of the Holy Spirit was placed upon the believers designating each one as holy to the Lord, set apart and different from the world.

The world will continue to live for self and sin, while the believer will give up self and live for God. He dedicates his life to be made new in Christ so that he may live a holy and righteous life before God.

As he lives a holy life for God, the world will see the sign upon his forehead or life that he is different and set apart. No longer will he live as the world does, gratifying self and sin, but he will live a righteous life, fleeing all sin and letting the world know why he does it.

The moment you chose to believe in Jesus and repent of your sins, you became holy unto the Lord. You were set apart as different from the world and dedicated to God.

Do not allow yourself to go back to the world or be conformed by the world, but be set apart unto God. The ways of this world only lead to death and destruction, but the ways of God lead to everlasting life and joy.

Going through your days, does the world see that you are set apart to God, holy to the Lord? Or do they see you like them, heading for destruction and death in sin?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will be set apart as holy to God; that the world will see that you belong to God; that you will not be ashamed of your belief in God; and that God will guide you in fleeing all sin.

Exodus 30:37 An Incense For God

“Do not make any incense with this formula for yourselves; consider it holy to the LORD.” Exodus 30:37

God had Moses make a very specific type of incense. This incense was to be used before God at the altar. There were to be very specific types of ingredients in it and it was to be considered holy. No one was to make that incense for themselves.

In the Old Testament incense was burned before the altar to give God a pleasant smell. It was to cover the bad odor of sin in the lives of the people.

When Jesus came, the door to the altar was opened so that any person, at any time can go before God directly. There was no more prescription on how to make an incense to burn before God.

Even though no perfume is to be burnt before God today, there is a perfume that arises before God. It is the prayers of every believer. The prayers of believers is described as a sweet aroma that God smells. It brings Him great honor and glory when His people pray to Him.

Think about how great it is when someone you love takes the time to talk with you. It feels great. If they never talk with you, you may wonder if they really love you or not.

The same thing goes for God. He wants His people to talk with Him. When you spend time in prayer, which is just talking to God, it makes Him feel great. It is a wonderful smell to Him.

Too often, people spend their time making perfume for themselves or for others. They spend their time pleasing other people or trying to look good in themselves. This is the incense made for themselves that God does not want made.

Who are you making incense for?

Is it for yourself or others? Or is it for God?

Take time to talk with God. It will send up an incense that will fill Him with joy and pleasure.

I pray today that you will spend time talking with God throughout your day; that you will not focus your time on others or just yourself, but on God; that your life will be a pleasing aroma to God; and that you will bring the sweet aroma of Jesus to this lost and dying world.
