Genesis 19:26 Desiring The Past

Man looking back

But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt. Genesis 19:26

The sin in the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were so great that God had chosen to destroy both of them. In His great mercy, God warned Lot and his family to flee from the destruction. As Lot, his wife and daughters were leaving, his wife chose to look back at the city. When she looked back, God turned her into a pillar of salt.

Files on computers or online are filled with thousands of pictures of things that happened in the past. The pictures are kept to remember people and events that occurred in the past. People will look back at those photos remembering good and bad times.

It is very common for some people to look back at things in the past and want to go back to that time. They want to go back when things were ‘better’. Often they want to escape the cares, fears, and trials of the present and go back to the ‘better’ days.

While there is nothing wrong with looking back at good times in one’s life, there are things that are often looked back upon and desired that are not good. Believers are to be a changed person. They have turned away from the past ways of living and become a new person in Jesus.

When a believer looks back on his old life and desires it, he is desiring the old and sinful ways of life. As he looks back, he is turning his back on Jesus and turning to sin and the world.

God is always moving forward. He is changing the believer to be more like Jesus every day. Going back to the old way of living, is to deny what Jesus has done. It is to deny what God wants the believer to be.

As a believer, keep your eyes focused ahead upon Jesus. You may look back to see how far you have come, but do not look back to desire it. God is always doing a new thing in your life. Do not allow the old ways to entice you to give up what God has done in your life.

Although the things in your past may have looked good, they only led to death. God wants to lead you forward into eternal life.

What are you desiring–the sinful past of death, or the future of life?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that God will help you turn from all sin; that you will know what God has in store for you; and that your eyes will always be on God.

Matthew 26:18 Keep Going Forward

Keep Moving ForwardHe replied, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’ ” Matthew 26:18

Jesus had already predicted His death. As the time for it was drawing closer, the time for the Passover was also arriving. He had determined to celebrate the Passover with the disciples, despite the extreme torture and death He was about to go through immediately afterwards.

Often in life people do not really know what is next in their life. Things come up in their life unexpectedly. One area that does come up unexpectedly, but then becomes a known thing is disease that will lead to death.

Cancer hits a lot of people. At the beginning of it there is a hope of healing and recovery. When the cancer hits stage four, most people lose all hope and are just waiting for death to occur.

At that level, most people give up on life. They shut down and just wait for the unwanted event to occur. All they see is the death that will occur and they no longer live in the joy of the life they still have.

Jesus knew that an extremely painful death was coming for Him. But He also knew that after that time of persecution and death, there would be eternal life. He knew that His death would also bring about life for many. So He continued forward with what needed to be done.

Believers have something to look forward too, even in death. They can look forward to eternal life. Until that death occurs, every believer has a work to do on this earth. There are always more people to be a witness too. There is always the ability to praise and worship God.

You may or may not be going through a life threatening sickness. You may or may not be facing death directly. However, there may be some other large disastrous event you are facing in your life.

If this is the case, do not shut down in fear or despair. Keep going forward worshipping and serving God with all of your life. God is with you and will give you the needed strength to do what needs to be done. Look forward to the hope you have once you are through the situation in this life.

I pray today that you will know the hope you have in Jesus; that you will know the joy you can have in God; that you will always move forward in God; and that you will do the work God has for you to do.

Numbers 33:1 Stages Of A Journey

Here are the stages in the journey of the Israelites when they came out of Egypt by divisions under the leadership of Moses and Aaron. Numbers 33:1

As the Israelites were getting closer to going across the Jordan River into Canaan, God had Moses write down the stages of the journey. Over the forty years of traveling in the desert, the Israelites had journeyed through many different locations and experienced many different situations.

Physical life is a journey that begins at birth and ends when a person dies. Every person experiences this journey. The length of that journey is different for every person. Each one will live in different locations, eat different foods, work different jobs, experience different friends, and experience different situations.

Out of all the people some will add in a new journey that is not physical. This is a spiritual journey that comes from salvation in Jesus. This journey starts at different points for every person, but never comes to an end, going on for all eternity. Some start it at a very young age, while others start it at a much older age.

You have started this journey at some point in your life, when you gave your life over to Jesus. The locations on this journey are not physical. It is the changes you have made in your heart and life.

When you first started believing Jesus, you may not have given up all of the sins in your life. You most likely did not even know that some of what you were doing was sinful. As you grow and mature in Jesus, you learn to live more like Jesus every day.

Your heart begins to change. At different stages you learn different things, such as learning to forgive more, or love more, or hearing God’s voice, or being more of a witness. Each of these are different stages of the journey you are on until God calls you to step into eternity with Him in physical death.

Remember these stages of the journey. It helps you see where you have come from and keeps focus of where you are going. It will strengthen and encourage you.

I pray today that God will reveal to you the path He has for you; that you will remember what God has brought you through; that God will encourage and strengthen you for your journey; and that one day you will step into heaven for all eternity with God.

Radical? Experiment? Making a Difference? Going FORWARD??

Here is a post that Glenn Kaiser posted a few days ago. The post is great to think about at the beginning of a new year. It goes along with what God has been laying on my heart from the book of James. Enjoy reading it and pray about what God wants you to get from it.
