Numbers 23:12 Speak Only What God Says

River in the autumn

He answered, “must I not speak what the LORD puts in my mouth?” Numbers 23:12

Freedom of speech is something that America treasures. People want to be able to say what they, when they want and how they want to say. This is always seen as personally they want that freedom as an individual alone, not always with everyone else.

Many do not care what another person is saying, as long as it does not offend them personally. As soon as it offends them directly, they no longer want another person to have that freedom to speak.

Balak had called Balaam to put a curse upon the Israelite people. Although Balaam had personal freedom to say whatever he wanted, he stated he could only speak what God says. At the first speaking, Balaam blesses the Israelites. Balak gets, mad, but Balaam reminds him that he could only speak what God has told him to say.

Today many believers are asked to talk, but they are told to say what the people want to hear. The world only wants to hear good news, but not always the full truth of what God is saying. There is bad news to be told, that the world is dying in their sins. The good news is that God loves them and is providing a way out of those sins and death.

As soon as the world hears the bad news, they get offended and angry with the believer. The believer is talking ‘hate’ in the eyes of the world, even though there is love being said.

When this is said against many believers, they change their words to what the world wants to hear. They no longer speak against sinful acts. They refuse to show the real need for a Savior.

Every believer needs to speak only what God is saying. They need to speak it with love, but also with truth. Balak did not want to hear the words Balaam was saying, but it was the truth.

There will be many times you will be allowed to speak to a non-believer. Your words need to be filled not only with God’s love, but with His truth and words also. As with Balaam, do not allow yourself to say anything more or less than what God is saying. Speak only God’s words to this dying world.

Whose words are you speaking, yours, the world’s or God’s words?

I pray today that you will know the words of God; that you will not allow fear of this world to keep you from speaking God’s word; that you will only speak what God says; and that God will give you strength to follow Him and not fear the world.

Jeremiah 1:19 They Will Fight You

“They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD. Jeremiah 1:19

God called Jeremiah to speak to the people and the nations. Many of his words that he would have to speak were not very nice sounding, politically correct words, yet they would be the message God wanted the people to hear. God promised Jeremiah that the people would fight against him because of those words, however, God would rescue him. Despite their numbers and strength, they would not be able to destroy Jeremiah.

No one likes to be offended in any way or spoken against and told that he is wrong. People like to think that their choices and decisions are the best and that they are correct in all that they do. They want to be in absolute control of their own lives and not allow anyone else to take away that control.

The gospel message is the number one message that God wants all of the world to hear about. His whole purpose in sending Jesus to the earth was to save the world from their sins.

Yet, as great as that message is, it is also extremely offensive and politically un-correct. In the eyes of the world it is the wrong thing to say.

It is offensive because it says:
* It says you are wrong
* It says you are going to die
* It says you have to give up all control
* It says that you must obey
* It says  you must forgive
* It says  you must love
* It says that there is only one way into heaven

If you speak these kinds of words to most people, most of them will hate you and fight against you. God promised this to Jeremiah, Jesus went through this, and Jesus promised you would also be persecuted for your belief. It is nothing new.

The world does not see God’s love showing how to have the best life possible for all eternity, because they get stuck on the words of them being wrong. It doesn’t make sense that God would die for you, but it is the truth.

Despite the world hating you for the gospel message, God is with you. All the world can do is destroy your body, God has your soul in His hands. They cannot destroy that. God will rescue you in the end. So go out and share that gospel message with the world. Show them that God really does love them, even when they are wrong.

I pray today that God will fill you with boldness to speak His words; that you will be filled with God’s love for the people; and that the world will see God’s love through you.

1 Kings 22:14 Speaking Only What God Says

But Micaiah said, “As surely as the LORD lives, I can tell him only what the LORD tells me.” 1 Kings 22:14

Jehoshaphat, king of Israel, was at war with the king of Aram. He had lost one of the cities to Aram and wanted to get it back. He sent for the prophet Micaiah to hear what he would say. All the other prophets had been prophesying success for the king and wanted Micaiah to say the same. Micaiah told him that he can only speak what God tells him to say.

People have their opinions about everything that is going on. All over the social media people talk about what they think about wars, robberies, deaths, killings, the economy, politics, and more. Television shows have various speakers discussing what they feel about everything. Sports fans always watch the games and have their opinions on how the play should have been called or actually played.

Opinions are not limited to the views of things in this world, but also in the church. Many believers also have their opinions on what God’s word says, some of which take into account all of Scripture, while others only a few verses.

Micaiah was willing to give a statement about the situation, but it was going to be only what God’s statement would be. He said the same things as Jesus would have said. Jesus said that He only said and did what the Father told Him to say and do.

As a believer you must also say only what God is saying. Sometimes that word is not a positive word. God may be saying to stop something or it will become a very bad situation. Other times God may speak positively in favor of something.

God always speaks out negatively about sin in a person’s life, and positively about living for Him and building people up in Jesus.

What are your opinions in this life?

What are the words you are saying?

Are the words your own words?

Or are they the words of God that He has given you to say?

I pray today that God will give you the words to speak; that God will reveal His thoughts to  you; that you will only speak God’s truth in love at all times; and that God will use you to reach the world.
