2 Chronicles 23:16 Make A Contract

Commited to God

Jehoiada then made a covenant that he, the people and the king would be the LORD’s people. 2 Chronicles 23:16

Contracts are made every day around the world. Most contracts are done between a person and a business or between two businesses. They are done to protect both parties in the contract.

In the contract are the rules of how each party will act or react and what the consequences will be for either action. It is an agreement that both parties will do or not do something very specific. If an action, that is supposed to be done, is not done, then there will be a negative consequence.

Most contracts are written down as a permanent record of the agreement. There are also many that are done verbally, just off of the words said.

Jehoiada was the priest of God who helped lead the people back to God. As Joash was made king, Jehoiada helped guide him in leading Judah. One of the things Jehoiada did was make a covenant with the people and the king for everyone to be God’s people. They were to go back to serving and worshipping God and not the idols of the land.

A covenant was the old way of saying a contract, or an agreement. God had called the people to His people, so the covenant was agreeing with God to be His people and making it official.

Although a written contract is not done when working with God, people today can make a contract with God to serve Him and be His people. It is making a agreement with God to serve Him alone and obey all of His commands. It is agreeing to build His kingdom for His glory.

When Jesus died on the cross, He made it possible to become God’s people in His kingdom. All a person must do is agree to the contract Jesus made possible, to believe in Him and serve God with all of one’s heart.

Make the choice today to sign a contract with God to be His people. He wants you to be His child in His family and His kingdom. All you must do to be saved and become His child is believe in what Jesus did–dying on the cross, raising from the dead and removing all sins. Then dedicate your life to serve God with everything in you.

Jesus paid the price for the contract, will you accept it today?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will make a contract with God to be His people; that you will agree to live your life for God; and that you will do the work God has for you in this world.

Hebrews 8:10 Law On The Heart, Not Paper

Heart on stone

This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God and they will be my people. Hebrews 8:10

Laws are something that people cannot really live without. Every nation has many laws put in place to govern the people. While many people will follow most of the laws without any problem, there are some laws that many people hate to follow.

It is the same in a household. Parents put into place many different types of laws (rules) for children to follow. Some children will follow the rules, while some will fight against obeying those rules.

During the time of Moses, God put out some laws for the people to follow. As one reads through the history of Israel, the people had a difficult time following those rules. They knew about the laws, but chose not to follow them.

The main reason people do not follow the laws and rules are because the laws are not really upon their hearts. The law is only in their mind. It is only a set of regulations and may go against their own personal desires.

Long before Jesus came, Jeremiah prophesied that God would place His Law upon the hearts and minds of His people. His Law would become a part of the person’s heart’s desire. It will no longer be a requirement to follow, but a desire to follow. It is as though the person wrote the law himself and so desires to obey that law.

Even in human laws, when a person loves the law or rule, he is ready and willing to obey it with no complaint. He wants to obey because he loves it.

You may have struggles trying to follow some commands God has put in place, such as to love your enemy. Allow God’s commands and laws to penetrate your heart. Learn to love God’s commands to know God has them only for your well-being. The law is not there to hold you down or harm you, but to build you up.

As you learn to love the law, you will be able to follow it with no complaints or struggles. It becomes a desire to obey and please God, not just a command or demand.

Follow God’s laws out of love, not force.

I pray today that you will know the commands of God; that you will have God’s commands on your heart; that you will love to obey God; and that you will see God is set to help you be your best for Him and others.

Jeremiah 30:22 God’s People

“So you will be my people, and I will be your God.” Jeremiah 30:22

As the people of Judah were being sent into exile in Babylon for punishment, many were thinking that God no longer wanted them. The punishment was going to be very severe and God would seemed to have abandoned them altogether. God did not abandon them completely. He stated that after a time He would restore them. He also told them, while this was occurring, that they would be His people and He would be their God.

Going through life can bring some very troubling times. It may often appear as though God has abandoned a person for life, because of the trials that one is going through. Because of choices that were made, there may be times that God will discipline a person to get him back on track. Other times, it will just be the consequences that God allows because of some poor decisions to walk away from Him.

You may have made one of those bad decisions in your life and you may be going through some discipline right now. It can be painful and feel as though God has left you. The devil and this world will try to tell you God has left you. Your mind may be telling you that God has abandoned you and wants nothing to do with you. It is not true. Never forget that God said He would never leave you, nor forsake you.

Even though you may not be an Israelite, you have become one of God’s children when you accepted Jesus and the work He had done for you. God is always right there to be your God and He wants you to be a part of His family, His people. You were grafted into the vine.

God wants to be your God. He wants you to be one of His people. He has great plans for you, if you are willing to follow Him and allow Him to be God. When you allow God to be the master of your life, He will guide every step you take. Everything that occurs will be for your benefit. God will not do anything that will be there to harm you or destroy you.

Are you trusting God to be your God?

Do you know that you are one of God’s people?

I pray today that you will know God as your God; that you will know that you are one of His people; that you will walk the path God has for you; and that you will obey God in every area of your life.

2 Kings 11:17 Who Is Your Contract With?

Jehoiada then made a covenant between the LORD and the king and people that they would be the LORD’s people. He also made a covenant between the king and the people. 2 Kings 11:17

Jehoiada was a priest who followed God faithfully. He had just had Joash anointed as king. As Joash was made king, Jehoiada led the people in destroying the temples of Baal. He also had the people make a covenant with God and with the new king that they would be the Lord’s people.

People make covenants with other people all the time. Today they are rarely to never called covenants, but are called agreements or contracts. Contracts are signed to purchase something on credit; to produce a product for someone; to work with a certain company; to pay for a given service; and many other things in life. These are the written covenants or contracts.

There are also many unwritten contracts that people have. These are usually less formal. Some are: staying off of the neighbor’s property; keeping the noise level down in the evening near the neighbor; treating neighbor’s with respect; not throwing trash all over the place; and many other unwritten contracts or agreements.

One unwritten contract that every person has is to who they will follow and serve. Every person on this earth is serving someone. At a minimum, every person is serving either God or Satan. It is not an option. Jesus said you will either love one or the other, but you cannot love both.

There comes a point after you were born when you began to live a life of sin. At that point you had made a contract with the devil to live for him and serve him. Until that contract is broken or cancelled, you belong to Satan.

When you choose to believe in what Jesus did on the cross for you and accept His forgiveness and to make Him your Lord and Savior, you make a covenant or contract with God. You have chosen to live for Jesus and Him alone. You have made an agreement to live according to His standards.

Choosing to follow Jesus, breaks the contract with Satan and you are then obligated to follow and serve God with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength.

Who is your contract with today?

Who have you chosen to serve today?

I pray today that you will choose to live for God; that you will trust and believe in Jesus; that you will no longer live for Satan; that you will sign a contract to serve God alone; and that you will be one of God’s people.
