John 14-27

John 14:27 Unusual Peace

Calm Lake

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27

As Jesus is giving His last words to the disciples, before being taken captive and crucified, He tells them that He wants to give them peace. This is a different type of peace and so the disciples are not to be afraid.

Talk of peace is something that is common around the world. Very few people are really against having peace. Many countries are talking about wanting peace, sometimes in their own country, other times between two other nations. Peace treaties are discussed among nations all the time. Yet, true peace is never found.

The majority of the people in this world see peace as just the absence of conflict or trouble. The look at a calm lake with no ripples in it and think of peace. While this is true to a point, that is not the peace that Jesus was giving the disciples.

Jesus gave a peace that an individual can experience between himself and God. In that peace it can be one of no conflict or struggles.

God’s peace is unusual. He never promised that there would be no other conflicts or struggles. In fact, Jesus promised that a believer will have trouble in this world. He said that believers would be hated and persecuted. To the normal mind, this is not peace, but trouble and fear.

The peace that Jesus gave was that God is with the believer and that no matter what happens, God is still in control and will win in the end. The believer can have peace knowing that in the end he will win because he is in Christ Jesus and God is on his side. That brings a peace that the world cannot understand.

As you are going through struggles and troubles in this world or are seeing the conflicts in this world, look to God. Seek His peace. Rest in His promises that He would keep you, guide you and be with you always. Know that God will win in the end and you will win with Him.

Knowing these things will bring an unusual peace, despite the troubles this world can show or cause. Do not be anxious or worried in fear. Accept God’s peace.

I pray today that you will know God’s peace in your life; that you will trust God is in control; that you will allow God to guide you in this life; and that you will be ready for when Jesus returns.

Psalm 120:7 Seeking Peace, Finding War

I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war. Psalm 120:7

All over the world most people desire to have peace instead of war. Battles are being fought daily in many different nations. People fight others for many different reasons, even though there are many who would love to have peace.

Believers should be seeking peace also, even though they are in the midst of a battle for their lives. The peace that should be sought out, is not the peace that the world thinks of. This peace is the peace that comes between them and God. It is an inner peace that overcomes everything.

As the believer seeks to present that peace to those in the world, the devil rises up in opposition and seeks to make war with him. The peace that the believer is trying to make is peace between God and man. The world does not accept God and does not want that type of peace. This is where the war is brought about.

In order for a believer to present God’s type of peace, he must show love, compassion, and mercy to those in the world. Not every believer shows these attributes of God to the world.

It is common to hear Christians bashing non-believers, condemning them to hell, and showing hatred. The words that many speak are not the true words of God. Yes, God hates the sin, but He does love the sinner.

As Jesus walked on the earth, He spoke of the peace of God and showed love, mercy and compassion. Yet, the world made war with Him and crucified Him. You will have it no differently.

As you go through your days, you need to be showing the world the peace that God can and will offer. Show the peace that comes through knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior. While there will be some who will accept the message you bring, there will be some who will make war with you.

Do not give up when there is war against you. Put on the armor of God and stand your ground, not seeking to fight and condemn, but fight to show God’s true love to this fallen world. You are in a battle for your soul and the souls of other people.

Are you seeking peace?

Or just seeking to fight in a war?

I pray today that you will know the peace of God; that you will present God’s peace to the world; that God will strengthen you in the battles that will come; and that you will be an example of God’s love to the world.

Numbers 6:24-26 Blessing Others

“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26

After dedicating the Levites and the Kohathites to the work of in the tabernacle, God gave a few simple rules in dealing with each other. Now He gives a blessing that Aaron and his sons were to proclaim over the people. God gave specific ways to bless them.

People like to look at blessings as only material blessings or the removal of any problems. God, however, looks at a real blessing as something different. The best blessing a person can receive is God’s favor and grace on him.

Getting things can be a blessing at the moment, but may become a curse later on. Getting a brand new car can look good, but then the cost of insurance gets you and becomes a curse. Getting a brand new home is great, but then the high cost of property taxes crushes you.

Removal of a problem can appear to be a blessing at the moment, but it removes some growth that God may want in your life.

The real blessings that God is having the priests proclaim over the people is His presence, grace and favor with them. If God is on your side, it does not matter who is against you.

God’s peace is a peace that the world cannot give. It is a peace in spite of all problems.

God’s grace will overcome any shortfalls you have in your life.

When God’s face is shining on you, you will know that He is aware of where you are and what you are going through. He is right there by your side, through everything in your life.

You know that when you trust in Jesus for your salvation, He will keep you. The only way you will lose is if you walk away from Him and reject Him. Until then, you will be saved for all eternity.

As you speak words to other people, speak these words. Give them this blessing that God has given you. This shows God’s love for a person.

Who can you bless today?

I pray today that you will know the blessings you have in Jesus; that God will bless and keep you; that God will shine His face on you; that you will know God’s grace; that you will know God’s peace for you; and that you will bless others as you have been blessed.
