Luke 4:18 Anointed For A New Job

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,” Luke 4:18

Jesus went into a temple one day and got up to speak. He opened up the scrolls and read from Isaiah 61 and 58. The scriptures He read claimed God’s Spirit was upon Him to proclaim freedom and recovery to the people. After He read it, Jesus stated that this prophecy was being fulfilled in Him that day.

Everywhere a person looks there are proclamations being made. People are claiming that their product is the best, or their services are the best. Talks of sales are happening. Many are always talking about who is the best for the position in the next election.

Most of these proclamations are backed by someone saying that they are the best or are worth it. Some see these things as good news, while others dismiss them as a waste of time and energy.

Every person who claims to be a believer in Jesus is supposed to be just like Jesus. Jesus set the example for anyone who follows Him. Jesus had God’s Spirit on Him and He was anointed by God. Every believer needs to have God’s Spirit on him and be anointed by God.

That anointing is God’s commission or authority to be a messenger. Every believer is to be a messenger of freedom. Freedom from bad news and poverty. Freedom from being a prisoner to sin. Freedom from being blind to seeing God and what He is doing. Freedom from oppression of sin and the weight of sin in one’s life. All of this is the good news that God has for all people.

The world is trying to crush people and hold them down, while God is trying to pick them up and build them up.

God wants to use you to reach this world with all of this good news. You are anointed with His Holy Spirit to share this good news.

He has given you His power and authority to bring this news to the world. When you walk in His ways, He will show His approval on your life in bringing that good news to the world. You now know your job description, go and proclaim it.

I pray today that you will know God’s anointing on your life; that you will know the good news of freedom for your life; that you will proclaim God’s good news to this world; and that God will set many free through your work.

1 Samuel 17:45 Fighting The Enemy

David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” 1 Samuel 17:45

The Philistines had made an offer to the Israelites to have one man from each side fight together, whoever won the fight, that side would be the conquerors. Goliath was the chosen warrior for the Philistines. No one was willing to fight him, because he was a giant and a seasoned warrior.

David’s brothers were at the battle also. David was sent to bring them some food. When he saw the giant, he was willing to fight him. Goliath threatened him with many threats, but David just said he was coming against him in the name of God. With just a simple sling and one stone, David killed Goliath and the Israelites won the battle.

In today’s society most people do not have to physically go to war against another person. Only those who are in the military have to deal with that type of situation. However, there are many other battles against an enemy that every believing person must face on a daily basis.

You, along with every believer, have at least one enemy…the devil. He is seeking to get you to sin and fall away from God. He comes at you directly or through others, in your thoughts, and in your physical life. Temptations are thrown your way every day. It is a great battle to fight off these temptations of the enemy.

This battle is for your soul. It is up to you as to who will win the battle.

You must not try to fight the battle in your own strength using the weapons of this world. You must fight it in the power of God. It is God who the enemy is defying, not you. Allow God to win the battle in your life.

Do not give the enemy a chance at taking you down. Take the initiative and run forward first and take him out. Kill the temptations to sin and win the battle.

I pray today that God will give you courage to fight the enemy; that you will fight in God’s power and way; that you will allow God to destroy all temptation to sin; and that God will win the battle for your soul.
