James 1:5-6 Seeking Wisdom

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. James 1:5-6

Wisdom is knowing what to say or do with the knowledge that one has already. People know how to do many different things, but are not always sure of the best way to use that knowledge correctly.

People have sought wisdom for thousands of years in many different ways. There are many people who were philosophers on life and wrote books on how to be wise, some giving some wise wisdom.

Most people, when they become an adult, can think a back to some wise things that their parents had told them. Or they may remember some wise words that another person had told them dealing with some area of their life.

While this wisdom can sound good, it is not always the best and perfect wisdom. James tells the people that if they need wisdom, all they need to do is ask God. God is a loving and generous God and wants to give out His wisdom to those who ask.

His wisdom is perfect, because He is perfect. However, not everyone wants to accept His wisdom, because in the eyes of the world it does not look very good. The believer must ask and not doubt what God shows him, regardless of how crazy it may appear.

There are people who ask God for wisdom, but then reject it when they get it. They doubt that it is really the best wisdom possible. In this way they get tossed around, because they follow the wisdom of this world, and not that of God.

There will be times you will need wisdom in how to deal with a situation in your life. The first thing you must do is go to God and ask for wisdom. Know that God will answer you with the best answer. Then you must believe what God has told you.

Do not allow yourself to doubt the wisdom of God. He is perfect and has been around for all eternity. His is wise above the wisest person on this earth. God loves you and will guide you correctly.

I pray today that you will seek God for all wisdom; that you will trust God’s wisdom for your life; that you will believe all that God says; and that you will act upon God’s word to you.

2 Corinthians 8:7 Excel In Giving

Giving money

But since you excel in everything–in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in love we have kindled in you–see that you also excel in this grace of giving. 2 Corinthians 8:7

Paul starts out this section talking about the Macedonian church, that even though they were extremely poor and suffering, they were extremely generous in giving. He now commends the Corinthian church in that they excelled at many different areas in life–faith, speech, knowledge, and love. They are now encouraged to excel in giving.

Some of the extremely wealthy people give out of the generosity of their heart, while many are giving just to get a break on their taxes. There are several who are atheists, but are still willing to give to help the poor around the world. The reasons for giving are very different for different people.

People look at those who are extremely wealthy and see how some of them are very generous in giving. They state that if they had the millions of dollars, they would also give generously. There are some believers who are known to think this way.

It has been shown that in a restaurant, believers are among the cheapest tippers. They are stingy with their money. Many do it because they do not have a lot of money. However, a person is to give generously according to what he has, not according to what He does not have.

The purpose of giving this way, is because Jesus gave all. He owned everything and gave it all up to come down to this earth, suffer, and die on a cross so that someone who did not love Him, could be forgiven of all sins. There was nothing more that He could give. He trusted the Father to provide for all of His needs as He poured out all He had for all mankind.

Take a look at your own life and see how you are at giving. If you do give, do you give generously with a joyful heart, or grudgingly just to look good to others?

Trust in God’s provision for all of your needs as you pour out what He has given you to meet the needs of others. Be willing to give with a joyful heart. Excel so much at giving that people will know you as a generous giver. This will be the representation of how Jesus gives.

I pray today that you will know what Jesus has given you; that you will have the same heart as that of Jesus; that you will trust God to meet your needs; and that you will allow God to meet the needs of others through you.

Proverbs 11:24 Giving Away Will Gain More

One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. Proverbs 11:24

Giving something away does not appear to be a way to gain more. Everyone is encouraged to save more and more in order to gain more. Giving everything away generously goes against the norms of this world.

Take a look at financial investments. If all a person does is give a little bit one time, the investment will not be very great. More than likely the person will lose in the end. However, if he gives generously into the investment, with time it will bring back a good profit.

God’s kingdom works on the same principle. God gave Jesus, who gave all that He had–His life–so that He could gain a lot more. God gave in order to gain His people back. He provided salvation to everyone who would accept it.

In life on this earth, everything that a person has, has been given to him. Nothing is just taken. All the things on this earth were provided for by God. God gave extremely generously to a people who did not want anything to do with Him.

Keeping this in mind, as a believer, you should realize that all that you have was given to you. Hold it loosely. Be willing to give it away to someone else who is in need of it. Use what God has given you to build His kingdom.

If you hold on to everything as the world does, you will lose everything as the world will. In the end everything on this earth will be destroyed. The only thing left will be the souls of the people. Those who have accepted the salvation Jesus provides will be given life for eternity. Those who have not accepted His salvation, will have all life taken away for eternity.

When you give freely everything you can to everyone who is in need, God will provide abundantly for your every need. You will gain more in the end. It may be physical things, but if nothing else you will have peace and life.

You will gain the knowledge that God used you to help someone else.

You will gain joy in knowing that you helped meet another person’s needs.

Don’t allow yourself to be put into true poverty by hoarding all that you have, give today.

I pray today that you will know what God has given you; that you will use what God has given you to build His kingdom; that God will help you give generously as He has; and that you will trust God to meet all of your needs.

2 Chronicles 31:5 Generous Giving To Worship

As soon as the order went out, the Israelites generously gave the firstfruits of their grain, new wine, olive oil and honey and all that the fields produced. They brought a great amount, a tithe of everything. 2 Chronicles 31:5

Hezekiah had the temple cleaned up and consecrated to God, and all the places of false worship were destroyed. It was now ready for worship to begin. After appointing the priests for leading the worship, he put out an order telling the people to give to the temple for worship. The people generously brought in a great supply of everything needed for worship to God.

During the time of Hezekiah worship was something that was physical and cost a great deal to do. Many animals and foods had to be used in the process of sacrifices in order to worship God properly. The people would show their worship to God by bringing those needed items to the temple to be used in the sacrifices.

Since Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice for every person, the method of worship has changed. While animals are no longer needed for sacrifices to worship, there are other things needed, some physical and some spiritual.

For the physical side of things it does cost money to have the sound equipment and a building in which to gather to worship. This is where physical tithing and generously giving of money comes in.

The other important factor in worship is the spiritual. A heart dedicated to God is required to be able to worship God. Taking time out of a busy life schedule is needed to worship God. Focusing on God and forgetting the cares of this world is needed to worship God. Gathering with other believers helps build the worship to God.

These are all things that only you can provide for yourself. As you gather with other believers for worship what are you putting into that offering of worship?

Have you tithed the money needed for expenses?

Are you dedicating your whole life and mind to worshipping God?

Take some time today to generously pour out some worship to God. Step off the crazy tread-mill of life to focus on God and give Him some worship. Go above and beyond just a five-minute quick worship and give it all to Him, Jesus is worth all you can give and more.

I pray today that you will make time to worship God; that you will set aside personal needs to worship God; that you will enter into a close relationship with Jesus; and that you will be generous in your worship to God in every area of your life.
