He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure. Isaiah 33:6
People are always looking for a solid foundation for their lives. They want a secure job, a secure bank account, a secure retirement account, a secure house and much more. They want to know that what they are trusting in will work and not fail.
Many are seeking this foundation in the things and ways of this world. Everything that this world produces in and of itself will fail at some point. Nothing will last forever that is man-made. Empires have risen and fallen, economies have risen and fallen, along with everything else that man has made.
Isaiah is looking forward to a future time with Jesus. He is looking to a time when God will be the sure foundation, the solid foundation that provides salvation, wisdom and knowledge.
Following the ways and things of this world is an unsure foundation. There is no guarantees in this life with this world. Many are living in fear because they do not have a solid foundation in their life, everything is fluid.
The one who follows Jesus has a solid foundation. It is only in Jesus that one will find salvation from the trouble of this world. True wisdom and knowledge is found only in following God with all of one’s heart and life.
Jesus is the only one who can save a person. Putting one’s trust in God alone, will give him a solid foundation in this life and prepare him for the life to come.
The believer will be able to stand on a sure foundation while the rest of the world is in a panic and living in fear and being unsure. He has a hope that the world does not know or understand.
As you put your trust in God, you can know that you have a solid foundation under your feet. You can know that God has forgiven you of your sins. You can know that Jesus is going to return to bring you with Him. You can understand what is going on in this world.
Do not allow yourself to live in fear as the world does. As the world is crumbling around you, stand upon the promises of God, the sure foundation that will withstand the sands of time and eternity.
I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the salvation God provides; that you will have a solid foundation in Jesus; and that you will live for God with all of your life.
“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Job 38:4
Throughout the world there are a lot of people, from all walks of life, who think that they are important. They think that the world revolves around them and that everything should work according to their personal desires.
This type of feeling is seen in the home, in the workplace and everywhere else. It is the feeling that mankind is the most important thing on the earth, and some individuals are the king of it all. Everyone is to serve the individual because he ‘deserves’ it.
Job had been questioning why things were going as they were. He thought that God was unjust and making a mistake. His friends were thinking that what was happening was because of sin in Job’s life. For a time, God had been silent, listening and watching what was happening.
Now God speaks up. One of His first questions to Job and His friends was wanting to know where they were when He created the earth. Of course, none of them were there.
When a person realizes who created everything that there is, it suddenly puts him into the right perspective of who he really is and who God really is. It shows the magnificent power and authority of God.
It is easy to see how complex this beautiful earth is. When that is seen, it begins to reveal how great God has to be in order to create this earth. He has understanding and ability far beyond anything man can say, think or do.
As one keeps this in mind, it helps keep the perspective that God is in control of everything. He puts things into place and allows things to occur that people do not always understand, but it is for the best for everyone involved.
You may not understand why you are going through tough times. You may not fully understand why God removes things from your life. You may not understand why God is blessing others, while you seem to be cursed. Yet, you can trust that God knows what He is doing.
Keep in mind that if God can create this complex universe, He is in control of what occurs in your life. Also keep in mind that His great love for you will only allow things to happen that are for your benefit in the end.
Don’t sit on the throne of your life, but allow God to sit there.
I pray today that you will know God’s power; that you will know God’s abilities; that you will trust God’s work in your life; that you will know that God is in control; and that you will allow God to be in control of your life.
With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the LORD: “He is good; his love toward Israel endures forever.” And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. Ezra 3:11
The foundation of the house is one of the most important parts of the building it. It is the foundation that holds the rest of the house up. It must be strong and well built to endure. If the foundation is weak, the house will fall.
There is always a lot of excitement in the beginning of building a new building, whether it is a house or a business. Many times people hold a great celebration with the breaking of the ground to begin laying the foundation. It is the end of a lot of planning and designing and the beginning of the actual building process.
The Israelites had been put into captivity in Persia, but the king allowed them to go back to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple that had been destroyed. As they laid the foundation, all the people rejoiced very loudly. They were excited at the idea of the temple being rebuilt. It showed them that God was still with them despite what had occurred. It represented the foundation of God in their lives and nation.
Since then the foundation and temple has changed. People are the temple and it is no longer a physical foundation, but one that is built upon Jesus Christ. His death and resurrection is the foundation of the new temple, the heart and life of a person.
Every time a person turns to Jesus, all of heaven is rejoicing in the salvation being done. There is also great rejoicing when a believer, who has strayed away, turns back to Jesus. His foundation is being re-set. The life is no longer built on the shifting foundation of this world and sin, but upon Jesus Christ and His righteousness.
Now is the time to build your foundation of your life on Jesus Christ. If you have never built the foundation, you can start now. If you had built it on Jesus, but let it fall in disrepair, you can return to Jesus and have it rebuilt. Allow your entire life to be built on Jesus and His teachings. It is a firm foundation that will stand for all eternity.
As the foundation is built in your life, rejoice greatly, because God is with you. His love endures forever and He is good.
I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that your life will be built upon the foundation of Jesus; that you will know the joy of serving God; and that you will know God’s love and presence in your life.
If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:12-13
Buildings are being built all over the world. Each one uses different types of materials to be built. Mud huts are built in some locations, steel buildings are built in many large cities, wooden and brick homes are the homes of choice of many people. Even plastic and glass buildings are built.
The choice of how to build the building, depends on how it is expected to be used and what type of weather it will have to endure. Wooden homes will not survive in locations with hurricanes. Mud homes will not be able to be built in extreme cold climates. Once a firm foundation is laid, choices on how to build the place have to be made.
Lives of people also require a foundation and a building. The world builds their lives on a foundation of self and sin. Believers build their lives on the foundation of Jesus Christ. Both still have choices to make on how their lives are built.
Salvation comes through faith in what Jesus did, not the works being done. However, God has rewards for people for what they have done with their life.
On the day Jesus returns, all the works of the believers will be tested in a fire to determine their value. Some of those works will be wood, hay and straw. These are works that have no eternal value. Works of ministry for selfish reasons, going through the motions of ministry without the heart in it, worshipping without the heart in it, and many other works. These works will be destroyed by the fire as of no value.
Other works, such as spreading the gospel, giving a helping hand, feeding the poor, loving the hated, and other works that Jesus did, will survive the fire. They have eternal value.
How are you building your life?
Is it with precious stones of high, eternal value, that will survive the fire?
Or are you building your life with things of this world, that are wood, hay, and straw, that will not survive the fire?
Either way, you will be saved, but your reward will be different.
I pray today that you will know what God wants you to do; that you will do things of eternal value for Jesus; that your works will bring glory to God; and that your life will be focused on God and eternity.
