Daniel 1:8 Choosing To Not Be Defiled

But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. Daniel 1:8

When King Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, had taken over Jerusalem and all Judah, he carried many people into captivity. Out of these people, he chose some who were the best and brightest to work for him. They were brought into the palace courts to work and given the best food and drink, along with all other needed provisions. Daniel was among those given that favor.

The food being provided was food that the Israelites were not supposed to eat according to God’s law. Daniel set it in his heart that he would not defile his body with the food being offered. Regardless of what may happen, he refused to eat that food. He asked the officials to not eat it. He was given favor, because God was on his side.

In this world there are many things that are out there that can defile a believer. No matter what store or location a person walks into things are available to cause one to sin. Pictures, thoughts, and actions are everywhere being done that are filled with sin and can lead a believer down the wrong path. Even other people can lead a person wrong.

As a believer, you must make a commitment to the Lord prior to walking into any place. You must commit to not allowing yourself to be led into sin. You have to choose not to walk down certain paths that the world offers.

In the process of doing this, there will be many times that you will go against the flow of society, even some in the church. Some may be doing it in good will, not meaning to harm you, but still be against God’s ways. It may also be painful. As with Daniel choosing not to eat certain foods, it runs the risk of creating severe pain and suffering. God is with you, and if you choose to follow Him and His ways, He will take care of you.

Before you walk out of your house today, or even your bedroom, resolve in your heart to not allow yourself to be defiled by sin. Refuse to walk down that path as you walk in this world.

I pray today that you will know God’s will for your life; that you will choose to follow God alone; that you will choose to not walk in sin against God; and that you will not allow yourself to be defiled by this world.

Ezekiel 47:12 River Flowing With Life

Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing. Ezekiel 47:12

In the vision Ezekiel is given, he sees water flowing from the sanctuary. The farther he follows that flow of water, the deeper it gets. It becomes a full river, giving life to all around it. Not only do fruit trees grow around it, but each tree bears fruit every month, providing food and healing for the people.

The river that is flowing represents God’s Holy Spirit flowing out from the temple providing life wherever He goes. God is a God of life, not death. His goal is to bring more life to every person. While the Israelites are in captivity for sin against God, He is telling them that there will be a day that He will flow among them bringing life to all who come.

Although the temple no longer exists, there is the church today. The church is made up of people who believe in Jesus. Whoever believes in Jesus is given His Holy Spirit to work in and through him. God’s Holy Spirit still flows out like a mighty river bringing life, food and healing to all who enter His river.

He brings life through the work of Jesus on the cross. He brings food by showing men how to live and serve God on this earth. He brings healing to both the body and the soul of every person who follows Jesus.

Most people are willing to accept God’s river, Holy Spirit, in their own lives, however, many do not allow Him to flow through them to others.

As a believer, you can allow God’s Holy Spirit to flow through you. You have a mission to bring life, food and healing to all who are around you and you will see fruit on a daily basis.

Do not be like some and hoard everything to yourself. Do not sit in condemnation of others, but bring life to them. Jesus forgave you, so you can forgive others. His commission to you was to go and make more disciples.

Allow God’s Holy Spirit to flow like a river to others and bring them real life.

I pray today that you will know God’s Holy Spirit in your life; that you will allow God to flow through you to others; that you will bring life, food and healing to those around you; and that many will know Jesus because of you.

Isaiah 46:4 Who Sustains You?

Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Isaiah 46:4

Everyday most people will eat several meals a day to keep going. The amount of food that a person eats is usually different for each person. A lot of it depends upon how active the person is and what his activity is.

The football player during football season will eat a very large amount of food. He needs to be able to sustain his muscles and strength during the rigorous training or games. The person who works in an office at a computer desk, will eat very little to sustain his energy. He is exerting very little physical energy, while exerting a lot more mental energy. The sustenance is found through the type and amount of food being eaten.

Going through life can be very challenging. At times a person may wonder how he will ever make it through some tough situation that has come upon him. People look to many different things to give them the strength to keep going. Some of these things may be alcohol, smoking, other people, drugs, more things to do, medicine, spending money, and the list is endless.

Israel had been going through some very tough times, yet God says it was He who made them and will sustain them through it all.

As a believer, God is the One who will sustain you. He has the power and the ability to hold you together when things are going rough. Allow God to pick you up and carry you through the storms of this life.

This does not mean there will be no storms or problems in this life, it just means He will carry you through it all. God is the one who will rescue you from all troubles.

There will be a day when God calls you home to heaven for all eternity with no more sorrow, pain, suffering or death. Until that day, He will hold you and sustain you. God is the nourishment that you need to keep your energy up for this life. Hold onto Him and trust Him.

I pray today that you will know God’s presence in your life; that you will know God is carrying you; that you will eat of God’s Word; and that you will be strengthened by His Holy Spirit for the struggles of this life.

Song Of Solomon 2:4 Eating At His Table

Let him lead me to the banquet hall, and let his banner over me be love. Song of Solomon 2:4

Eating food is one thing that people love to do. Many like to eat more food than they really should eat. Different people like to eat different types of foods, but the common factor is that all like to eat.

Restaurants that are set up buffet style are usually very large and always very busy. They provide a wide variety of foods to eat, and an unlimited amount of food. All this for one price. No one leaves hungry.

In this passage today, the bride is asking that the Lord lead her to his banquet hall. She wants to be able to eat at His table.

The Lord is the king. Every king eats very well and only the very best food. To eat there means one will not be eating macaroni and cheese, but prime steaks and lobster. It will only be the best.

As Jesus walked on this earth, He ate at His Father’s banquet table. He was provided more than enough food to sustain Him and satisfy Him. This food was to do the will of His Father. He found great satisfaction in doing what the Father wanted Him to do.

As a believer in Jesus, you are the bride of Christ. You should have a desire to eat at His table. The banquet table that Jesus eats at, is the Father’s table. Doing what God wants you to do will provide you with satisfaction and fulfillment.

In order to know what God wants you to do, you must take time to read the Bible. Take in what He says and devour it. Make it a part of your life. As you begin to know God and what He wants through His Word, you will know what to do in your life. Then you can begin to do those things and find the satisfaction that you need.

The only way this can happen is if you allow God to lead you to His banquet table. Taste of the Lord and find out that He is good. The food that He has for you is the best that there is. Remember that He is The King and only has the best food available.

I pray today that you will know the food God has for you; that you will hunger for His Word; that God will strengthen you to do His will; and that you will do whatever God asks of you.

Proverbs 25:21-22 How To Treat Your Enemy

If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you. Proverbs 25:21-22

It is commonly thought that when an enemy does something wrong, the first thing that should be done is to strike back and make the enemy pay for the wrong that was done. The striking back is seen as a punishment. It can be just words, or a physical strike, or some other correction. Today many will take someone to court and get them put in jail or made to pay a fine or some law suit. Eye for eye, tooth for tooth is the mentality of many people.

The idea of the “punishment” is to make the person hurt a little for what he did. Causing pain in some way, is supposed to detour the person from ever doing it again. In this process of punishing the wrong-doers, prisons have been filled to overflowing with those who have done wrong, wars have been waged between nations or groups of people, and millions of innocent people have been hurt.

God has a different plan on how to deal with the enemy. Since you are not God, you do not have the full right to punish the enemy. You are to be like Jesus. He fed the enemy and gave the enemy water to drink. Do you think that every person who ate in the group of 5,000, fully loved and followed Him for who He was? Most likely not.

Solomon says treating an enemy with food and water will heap burning coals on his head. When shown the true love and mercy of God, the person doing wrong will feel the pressure to change. He will realize the wrong that he has been doing.

As a believer, you are to be set apart from the world. You are to be different from the world. The world wants revenge, you must show love and mercy.

When someone has done something wrong to you, the best thing you can do is meet their needs the best way you can. Since their needs were not being met, maybe that is why they treated you wrong.

When you do these kind things, God will see and reward you. His reward will be greater than any person on this earth could give you.

How are you treating your enemies today?

I pray today that you will be filled with God’s love for all; that God will strengthen you to do right to your enemy; and that God will reward you for your love and mercy on others.

Psalm 104:27-28 Getting Your Food

All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. Psalm 104:27-28

One thing that every creature and human cannot live without is food. Housing is good to have, but not absolutely necessary; take a look at all the homeless people surviving. Clothing helps in many different ways, but, again, it not absolutely necessary to stay alive.

Every person and animal can go without food for a time, but eventually needs it to survive. It is what gives the body nourishment to survive and continue to grow. It is what sustains the body.

In this psalm the author writes that every creature on the earth looks to God for food. When they are given that food, they have to gather it up, and then they are also satisfied.

Humans tend to look at things differently. Many want God to hand them their food or other necessary things, but are unwilling to work at gathering up what is needed. Some people are out of a job, but refuse to work a menial job that is presented to them, because it is “below” them.

Others do gather up the food that God gives them, but then complain about it. They want the food from Egypt, what someone else has. Rather than be satisfied, they complain about what they do not have or were not given.

Look at the creatures of this earth and see how they live their lives on this earth. They are grateful to God for the things that they do have. Their focus is on God supplying their needs, rather than they themselves.

God has many different ways to meet your every need. If He can supply the food for the animals of the field, will He not supply food for you?

You are worth more than many sparrows to God. Never forget that God sent Jesus to die for  you. He will provide food for you as He provides food for the animals. If He will provide the food, He will also provide for your every other need as well. Trust Him today.

I pray today that you will see God’s provision in your life; that you will be satisfied with what God provides you; that you will trust God for all of your needs; and that you will gather up what God gives you.

Psalm 63:5 Fully Satisfied

I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. Psalm 63:5

Everyone loves to eat, especially when it is good food. Each person has his own favorite food, that food that is considered worth dying for. For some people is a large steak, or Chinese food, or a hamburger, or some type of salad, or a desert. It is that food that a person will eat no matter how full he is, or how bad it is for them. Then after eating it, he will rave about it to everyone. They are fully satisfied with the food.

David is talking about enjoying God as much as many people enjoy those certain foods. When he spent time with God, he was completely satisfied and did not need anything more from anyone or anywhere else.

Most people are looking for satisfaction in things of this world. They try out different foods, entertainments, jobs, houses, drugs, spouses, and the list goes on. All of these things are temporary and cannot give complete satisfaction. They wear out, break down, and leave.

Only God can give complete satisfaction for a man’s soul. The only way a person can know that satisfaction is trying God out. Getting into God’s word and hiding it in the heart will help a person get to know God more. Spending time praying to and listening to God will go a long way in knowing God.

The more you get to know God, the more you will want to know about God. The more time you spend with Him, the more time you will want to spend with Him.

As you get to know God and spend time with Him, you will realize that you can be fully satisfied with Him. He will meet your every need and longing. Only God can bring peace and comfort in pain. Only God can bring companionship in loneliness.

As He does these things for you, give Him praise. Sing out loud the praises of God. Tell others what God is doing for you. Let the world know the satisfaction that God brings to you.

Who or what fully satisfies you today?

I pray today that you will know God more; that you will find complete satisfaction in knowing God; that you will sing praises to God; and that you will tell others of Jesus.
