Isaiah 46:4 Who Sustains You?

Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Isaiah 46:4

Everyday most people will eat several meals a day to keep going. The amount of food that a person eats is usually different for each person. A lot of it depends upon how active the person is and what his activity is.

The football player during football season will eat a very large amount of food. He needs to be able to sustain his muscles and strength during the rigorous training or games. The person who works in an office at a computer desk, will eat very little to sustain his energy. He is exerting very little physical energy, while exerting a lot more mental energy. The sustenance is found through the type and amount of food being eaten.

Going through life can be very challenging. At times a person may wonder how he will ever make it through some tough situation that has come upon him. People look to many different things to give them the strength to keep going. Some of these things may be alcohol, smoking, other people, drugs, more things to do, medicine, spending money, and the list is endless.

Israel had been going through some very tough times, yet God says it was He who made them and will sustain them through it all.

As a believer, God is the One who will sustain you. He has the power and the ability to hold you together when things are going rough. Allow God to pick you up and carry you through the storms of this life.

This does not mean there will be no storms or problems in this life, it just means He will carry you through it all. God is the one who will rescue you from all troubles.

There will be a day when God calls you home to heaven for all eternity with no more sorrow, pain, suffering or death. Until that day, He will hold you and sustain you. God is the nourishment that you need to keep your energy up for this life. Hold onto Him and trust Him.

I pray today that you will know God’s presence in your life; that you will know God is carrying you; that you will eat of God’s Word; and that you will be strengthened by His Holy Spirit for the struggles of this life.

Song Of Solomon 2:4 Eating At His Table

Let him lead me to the banquet hall, and let his banner over me be love. Song of Solomon 2:4

Eating food is one thing that people love to do. Many like to eat more food than they really should eat. Different people like to eat different types of foods, but the common factor is that all like to eat.

Restaurants that are set up buffet style are usually very large and always very busy. They provide a wide variety of foods to eat, and an unlimited amount of food. All this for one price. No one leaves hungry.

In this passage today, the bride is asking that the Lord lead her to his banquet hall. She wants to be able to eat at His table.

The Lord is the king. Every king eats very well and only the very best food. To eat there means one will not be eating macaroni and cheese, but prime steaks and lobster. It will only be the best.

As Jesus walked on this earth, He ate at His Father’s banquet table. He was provided more than enough food to sustain Him and satisfy Him. This food was to do the will of His Father. He found great satisfaction in doing what the Father wanted Him to do.

As a believer in Jesus, you are the bride of Christ. You should have a desire to eat at His table. The banquet table that Jesus eats at, is the Father’s table. Doing what God wants you to do will provide you with satisfaction and fulfillment.

In order to know what God wants you to do, you must take time to read the Bible. Take in what He says and devour it. Make it a part of your life. As you begin to know God and what He wants through His Word, you will know what to do in your life. Then you can begin to do those things and find the satisfaction that you need.

The only way this can happen is if you allow God to lead you to His banquet table. Taste of the Lord and find out that He is good. The food that He has for you is the best that there is. Remember that He is The King and only has the best food available.

I pray today that you will know the food God has for you; that you will hunger for His Word; that God will strengthen you to do His will; and that you will do whatever God asks of you.

Proverbs 25:21-22 How To Treat Your Enemy

If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you. Proverbs 25:21-22

It is commonly thought that when an enemy does something wrong, the first thing that should be done is to strike back and make the enemy pay for the wrong that was done. The striking back is seen as a punishment. It can be just words, or a physical strike, or some other correction. Today many will take someone to court and get them put in jail or made to pay a fine or some law suit. Eye for eye, tooth for tooth is the mentality of many people.

The idea of the “punishment” is to make the person hurt a little for what he did. Causing pain in some way, is supposed to detour the person from ever doing it again. In this process of punishing the wrong-doers, prisons have been filled to overflowing with those who have done wrong, wars have been waged between nations or groups of people, and millions of innocent people have been hurt.

God has a different plan on how to deal with the enemy. Since you are not God, you do not have the full right to punish the enemy. You are to be like Jesus. He fed the enemy and gave the enemy water to drink. Do you think that every person who ate in the group of 5,000, fully loved and followed Him for who He was? Most likely not.

Solomon says treating an enemy with food and water will heap burning coals on his head. When shown the true love and mercy of God, the person doing wrong will feel the pressure to change. He will realize the wrong that he has been doing.

As a believer, you are to be set apart from the world. You are to be different from the world. The world wants revenge, you must show love and mercy.

When someone has done something wrong to you, the best thing you can do is meet their needs the best way you can. Since their needs were not being met, maybe that is why they treated you wrong.

When you do these kind things, God will see and reward you. His reward will be greater than any person on this earth could give you.

How are you treating your enemies today?

I pray today that you will be filled with God’s love for all; that God will strengthen you to do right to your enemy; and that God will reward you for your love and mercy on others.

Psalm 104:27-28 Getting Your Food

All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. Psalm 104:27-28

One thing that every creature and human cannot live without is food. Housing is good to have, but not absolutely necessary; take a look at all the homeless people surviving. Clothing helps in many different ways, but, again, it not absolutely necessary to stay alive.

Every person and animal can go without food for a time, but eventually needs it to survive. It is what gives the body nourishment to survive and continue to grow. It is what sustains the body.

In this psalm the author writes that every creature on the earth looks to God for food. When they are given that food, they have to gather it up, and then they are also satisfied.

Humans tend to look at things differently. Many want God to hand them their food or other necessary things, but are unwilling to work at gathering up what is needed. Some people are out of a job, but refuse to work a menial job that is presented to them, because it is “below” them.

Others do gather up the food that God gives them, but then complain about it. They want the food from Egypt, what someone else has. Rather than be satisfied, they complain about what they do not have or were not given.

Look at the creatures of this earth and see how they live their lives on this earth. They are grateful to God for the things that they do have. Their focus is on God supplying their needs, rather than they themselves.

God has many different ways to meet your every need. If He can supply the food for the animals of the field, will He not supply food for you?

You are worth more than many sparrows to God. Never forget that God sent Jesus to die for  you. He will provide food for you as He provides food for the animals. If He will provide the food, He will also provide for your every other need as well. Trust Him today.

I pray today that you will see God’s provision in your life; that you will be satisfied with what God provides you; that you will trust God for all of your needs; and that you will gather up what God gives you.

Psalm 63:5 Fully Satisfied

I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. Psalm 63:5

Everyone loves to eat, especially when it is good food. Each person has his own favorite food, that food that is considered worth dying for. For some people is a large steak, or Chinese food, or a hamburger, or some type of salad, or a desert. It is that food that a person will eat no matter how full he is, or how bad it is for them. Then after eating it, he will rave about it to everyone. They are fully satisfied with the food.

David is talking about enjoying God as much as many people enjoy those certain foods. When he spent time with God, he was completely satisfied and did not need anything more from anyone or anywhere else.

Most people are looking for satisfaction in things of this world. They try out different foods, entertainments, jobs, houses, drugs, spouses, and the list goes on. All of these things are temporary and cannot give complete satisfaction. They wear out, break down, and leave.

Only God can give complete satisfaction for a man’s soul. The only way a person can know that satisfaction is trying God out. Getting into God’s word and hiding it in the heart will help a person get to know God more. Spending time praying to and listening to God will go a long way in knowing God.

The more you get to know God, the more you will want to know about God. The more time you spend with Him, the more time you will want to spend with Him.

As you get to know God and spend time with Him, you will realize that you can be fully satisfied with Him. He will meet your every need and longing. Only God can bring peace and comfort in pain. Only God can bring companionship in loneliness.

As He does these things for you, give Him praise. Sing out loud the praises of God. Tell others what God is doing for you. Let the world know the satisfaction that God brings to you.

Who or what fully satisfies you today?

I pray today that you will know God more; that you will find complete satisfaction in knowing God; that you will sing praises to God; and that you will tell others of Jesus.

Job 23:12 Better Than Food

I have not departed from the command of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread. Job 23:12

As Job is going through a lot of suffering, he does not understand why it is happening. He is willing to state his case before God of his innocence of any wrong doing. In his heart, Job knows that he follows all of God’s commands. He desires God’s Word more than food.

Eating food is something most people like to do. Many will even eat much more than they need too, because they love eating the food so much.

Look at the many different restaurants that have all you can eat buffets. Those places are constantly filled with people stuffing themselves. There are restaurants that are now open twenty-four hours a day, because there is always someone ready to eat something around the clock.

What people desire to eat is different for each person. Some like junk food, such as chips and candy. Others love fast food. Others just like deserts. While others attempt to eat healthy meals, just a lot. The desire to eat is great.

While the need to eat food is important, the need to eat of God’s Word is more important. Job knew the value of God’s Word in his life. He desired to have His Word more than the food that is only here today and gone tomorrow.

Jesus told the disciples that His food is to do the will of the Father. The will of the Father (God) is doing what He says to do, following His Word.

Most believers do not even read the Bible at all, except on Sunday when in church. They do not study or memorize any verses from day-to-day. They do not have a hunger for God’s Word. They do not treasure the greatest book in all of creation.

You need to ask God to give you a desire to know His Word and to apply it to your life. As you read the Bible more and  more, you will also learn to love it and desire it more and more. You will not want to go one day without feeding on His Word.

What do you treasure more?

Food?

Or God’s Word?

I pray today that you will have a desire to know God’s Word; that you will read the Bible daily; that you will apply God’s Words to your life; and that you will be willing to forsake all else for knowing His Word for your life.

1 Kings 17:6 A Different Way To Provide

The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook. 1 Kings 17:6

Ahab had become the king of Israel. He completely walked away from God and started worshipping idols. God sent Elijah, a prophet, to Ahab to tell him there would be no rain for several years because of his sins. Then Elijah was told to go into the wilderness to a brook. While there God had some ravens bring Elijah bread and meat, both in the morning and in the evening so that he could have food to eat. During this time of drought, God provided water in the brook he was staying by.

There are people who work at trying to grow some of their food. While some people are very good at gardening and growing fruits and vegetables, others are better at raising various types of animals for food. Although many people try to provide their own food, many more want to go down to the local grocery store and purchase the food off the shelf. Either way, people want to know where their food came from.

Elijah did not know where his food came from, other than from a raven carrying it in to him. Very few people would be willing to eat food that was brought by a raven. The raven does not wash his claws, does not keep the meat clean or refrigerate it, and keeps the food on the ground in the dirt. Yet, that was the way God provided for Elijah to eat.

God is a big God who is in control of absolutely everything. If you are following Jesus and believing Him, God has already told you that He will provide for your every need. What He has not always told you is how He will provide for that need.

If you are doing everything that God has told you to do, you must then rest in the promise God has made to you to provide for all your needs. Be willing to be open to the different ways God will provide for you. Some of those ways may be very strange and unusual as with Elijah getting food from the ravens.

Are you open and grateful for the ways God provides for you?

Or are you keeping your mind closed to God meeting your needs in His way?

I pray today that you will see God’s hand of provision in your life; that you will not turn down any provision God gives you; that you will believe God’s promise to meet all of your needs; and that you will follow God with all of your life.
