Proverbs 5:23 No Discipline Equals Death

Karate stance

For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly. Proverbs 5:23

Discipline is the ability to make oneself do the right thing or to choose to not do something wrong, regardless of how hard that decision is. Athletes discipline themselves to work out and practice long and hard in their skill to improve and become better. They push the hardships of the hard work aside to improve.

Many in the world do a great job at disciplining themselves to do a sport, but often will not choose to discipline themselves in other areas of life that are not good.

There is no discipline used to hold oneself from living in sinful ways. Choices to commit and live in adultery, homosexuality, or some other deviant lifestyle are common. Each of these and many more ways are ways that lead to death. Sinful lifestyles are accepted as normal and promoted.

Solomon realizes that lack of discipline will bring about death. People are led down wrong paths by their own folly.

The believer must choose to live for God and according to His ways and commands. It takes focus and discipline to live for God.

Yet, there are many in the church who have chosen to put discipline aside and follow the ways of the world. Men lust after other women or men who are not their wives. Women lust after men and women who are not their husbands.

Sin is embraced and accepted as the world accepts it.

True discipline will choose to not walk down sinful paths. This is not down out of legalistic beliefs, but out of love for God for what He has done for each person. Jesus died to remove sin and the death sentence of sin upon a person.

Walking in sin puts that death sentence back into place. It is foolishness to choose to die.

Each day you will have choices to make. You can either look into and follow sinful ways, or you may turn away from all sin and follow God’s holy and righteous ways of living.

God wants you to have an abundant life. Living in sin may be abundant for a short season, but in the end it will bring about death.

Discipline yourself, train yourself to stay focused upon God and His ways. Train yourself to choose to obey God’s commands and not live in sin.

Embrace the life God has for you, not the death the world offers.

I pray today that you will know the salvation Jesus provides; that God will guide you into His ways of living; that God will give you strength to walk in His ways; that you will keep your eyes focused upon God; and  that you will have discipline to obey God.

Psalm 85:8 Listen And Don’t Turn Wrong

I will listen to what God the Lord says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants–but let them not turn to folly. Psalm 85:8

Peace is something that most people want all over the world. They are searching for peace or ways to have peace. Yet, as they search for peace, it never seems to be found.

For short periods of time some find a little peace, but it does not last. Some will find peace in getting away from everyone and everything. Others find peace when there is no direct battles going on and everything is going their way. While each of these has signs of peace, they are not real peace and it does not last.

One of the sons of Korah states that he will listen to what God has to say. One thing that God promised was peace to His people. His people are those who are faithful to Him. However, there is one requirement, they must not turn to folly.

Believing in Jesus brings about a peace the world cannot understand. It is peace in knowing the salvation He provides and peace despite the troubles that are occurring in one’s life. This is a peace that overrides anything that is going on in life, both good and bad. Nothing can take that peace away.

Although nothing can take that peace away, one can give it away. A person gives that peace away when he turns to folly. Folly is doing anything that has no purpose or meaning, anything that lacks any value.

Living in any sin is the greatest folly a man can do. Sin has no purpose other than to separate a person from God and kill him. It is a waste of time and only brings about death.

As the world turns to folly/sin, the believer is to turn away from all folly and listen to God.

When you turn away from sin and begin to listen to God, you will know what He desires of you. You will learn of His great love for you. You will know the peace that He has for you.

God has promised you all of these things, regardless of what the world says or does. Trust that He will give them to you as you turn from sin and folly.

Focus your life on serving God and building His kingdom and you will know the peace that the world can never know.

I pray today that you will know the salvation Jesus provides; that you will know the peace of God in your life; that God will strengthen you to turn from all folly and sin; and that you will only do what pleases God.

Psalm 69:5 God Already Knows

Hiding lion

You, God, know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you. Psalm 69:5

Doing something wrong is not uncommon for people. People do things wrong on a regular basis. They break the laws of the land or community all the time.

Sometimes these are major infractions, while often they are minor ones, but either way it is doing something that should not be done. After breaking one of the laws, however, many people are concerned about getting caught by someone.

People driving down the road will often be speeding over the speed limit some. Sometimes quite a bit, other times just a little. When they suddenly see a cop, nearly everyone will hit the brakes and slow down, hoping they don’t get stopped. This even occurs for many who were not speeding.

David had sinned against God and knew it. He knew that God knew what he had done. His guilt was clear to him and to God.

When a person breaks the law of the land it is possible that no one on this earth knows anything about it. They can often get away free from punishment or judgement.

Since people cannot see God directly, they often think that God does not see them doing something wrong. They think they are in the free and clear, because no person saw them.

However, God is everywhere and sees every sin. Not only the physical open sins that people could see, but the sins of the heart and mind.

In the hearts and minds of people, many will hate or commit a sin of thoughts, rather than physically doing anything. They feel as though God cannot see it, but He does. They may be free before man, but they are guilty before God.

The only way to get free of the guilt is to confess it before God and turn from the sin.

God sees you every action that you do. He also knows your every thought and motive. There will be times you will sin against Him both physically and mentally.

Do not try to hide it from God, He already knows what you did. Go to Jesus and repent of that sin. Release it unto Him to be forgiven. God is waiting and ready to forgive every sin you have done, for whatever reason you had done it.

Allow Him to forgive you, rather than hide it and stay condemned.

I pray today that you will know the love of God; that you will know the mercy of God; that you will know God sees all; that you will repent of all sin against God; and that you will seek to live for God.
