Acts 12:24 It Keeps Spreading

But the word of God continued to spread and flourish. Acts 12:24

Throughout the history of the world there have been different things that have spread and appeared as though they would never stop.

Empires spread across the world as though to conquer the entire world. Viruses have spread across nations or the world, appearing to destroy everyone and everything. Draught has spread, leaving a lot of disaster in its path.

Although many things have spread widely and sometimes rapidly, all of these things have come to an end. They only flourished for a time.

As the church was going through extreme persecution, the word of God kept spreading and flourishing.

At the time a major disaster strikes, it does not appear as if it will ever end. With the finite mind and eyes of man, most do not see any hope or light at the end of the tunnel.

Believers looking at this world will see that evil is on the rise. More and more evil is being done and accepted. America, as a whole, has turned itself away from Godly principles to sin. Persecution of Christians is on the rise, getting worse all the time.

Yet, despite this rise in evil, God’s word is still alive and active. It is flourishing in the hearts of men and women who read it and make it a part of their lives. His word is changing lives, even today under great evil.

People are seeing God do great works in and through them. They have the hope that God’s word and promises provide that God will win the war in the end.

During the time a believer keeps his eyes and hearts upon God and His word, he will have hope. He will be able to see what God is doing and is going to do.

Every day you may have some struggles and see that, what appears to be, the world is winning the war. Stop and take a moment to read God’s word. Allow God’s word to penetrate your heart and see what God can do in you.

Now share that word with someone else. God can use it to change the hearts and lives of other people. His word will continue to spread, if you allow it to do so in your life, the lives of others around you and in the world.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know God’s word for your life; that you will spread God’s word everywhere you go; that you will see God’s word spreading and flourishing; and that many will believe God’s word to them.

Psalm 92:12-13 A Flourishing Life

Florishing garden

The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. Psalm 92:12-13

Every day people all over the world are striving to ‘make’ it in life. They want to flourish and be successful in what they do. Focus is often put on how large of a bank account or how large a house, or how many cars a person has to determine how well he is succeeding.

If a person does not have the right position or the right amount of money, most do not think he is flourishing or successful. With this mindset, most do not think that they are flourishing, but scraping along the bottom, not successful.

In this psalm, the writer states that those who are righteous will flourish like a tree. This flourishing will take place in God’s courtyard.

When a tree is flourishing, it is growing very well, full of fruit and is well rooted in the ground. There is no sign of disaster, wilting or disease. It is full of life.

Believers have the ability to flourish, even when in the middle of a great struggle. They can rooted in God and have the joy of God’s salvation, knowing that they belong to God.

The believer fully rooted in Jesus will be full of the fruit of the spirit. He will display the love, joy, patience, kindness, gentleness, meekness and more that Jesus displayed when He walked upon this earth.

While on this earth, the believer may not have the physical things that this world determines as needed to flourish, but he can still flourish in God’s courtyard. He can be successful in being a witness and being faithful to God’s word, growing and becoming like Jesus each day.

Each day you have a choice as to how you will flourish. You can strive to flourish like the world desires with temporary things that will fail and die in the end. Or you can choose to flourish in God’s courtyard.

As a believer you should be seeking daily to be filled with His Holy Spirit and to display the fruit of His Holy Spirit in your life. Strive to be more like Jesus daily and be a tree planted by the waters of God’s Spirit.

This flourishing will last for eternity, surviving the struggles and disasters of this earth.

Are you really flourishing today?

Today I pray that you will know the salvation that Jesus provides; that you will be filled with His Holy Spirit; that you will bear the fruit of God’s Spirit in your life; and that you will be more like Jesus each day.

Psalm 52:8 A Flourishing Life

Olive tree branch

But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever. Psalm 52:8

Going through this life can be difficult with the various trials and challenges that people face from day to day. Along with all of the challenges in life that many face, there is also the mundane routine of the average life.

Very few people find a real purpose in their life. They keep searching for meaning and purpose to what they are going through and often do not find it.

As people live life in this way, they are not flourishing, but just in survival mode each day. They don’t appear to be moving forward or accomplishing anything. There is no joy or peace in their lives.

David had penned these words while he was fleeing from Saul and when Doeg had betrayed him to Saul. He points out those that do not follow God will fail in the end, but that he is flourishing like an olive tree in God’s house. This is occurring because he is trusting in God.

There are many believers who are living like the world, not flourishing but just struggling from day to day. They have allowed their eyes to be focused on their problems and day-to-day struggles rather than upon God.

Although they still claim belief in God, they have lost trust in God and no longer flourish.

Those who fully believe and trust God and His word, will flourish. They will know that the struggles they have are only light and momentary in light of eternity. They will know that what is happening is for their good, because they are trusting God’s hand in their life.

Trusting in God brings about a joy and peace that the world cannot understand nor take away. This allows a person to really live and flourish like a well planted olive tree producing lots of fruit in his life.

Instead of focusing on the challenges in your life, put your eyes upon God. Trust that He knows what He is doing and what He is doing is the best thing to be done. Then rest in His control.

Allow yourself to be strengthen by His Holy Spirit so that you can live the life that He has blessed you with. You can live the abundant life that Jesus promised, flourishing, growing and moving forward. Life does not have to be mundane and dead, but full of life.

Are you flourishing today?

I pray today that you will know the life God has for you; that you will trust the path God has for you; that you will live for God; that God will help you see past the challenges in this life; and that you will know the joy of life in Jesus.
