Isaiah 30:17 Fleeing In Fear

Hands crossed in fear

A thousand will flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you will all flee  away, till you are left like a flagstaff on a mountaintop, like a banner on a hill. Isaiah 30:17

Fear is something that can cause a person to run away quickly. People fear something that they do not understand or that can threaten them.

The world does not acknowledge God, so it will flee things out of fear. They do not trust that God is in control and all they see is death ahead of them. Often the fear is over something very little and not really that large of a threat.

Over the years things have risen up that have caused widespread panic around the world. Most often those things did not do that much damage.

Isaiah prophesied against a nation who had chosen to reject God. They had chosen to find their own way of doing things. In doing so, they would flee out of fear very quickly till there was no one left.

Following God means that one will trust in God for everything in their life. God’s great love drives out all fear. However, when a believer chooses to step into sin, he is no longer loving God and begins to fear.

Many believers are running in fear of things that the world is doing, because they are not trusting God through the situation. They are following the beliefs and ways of this world and panicking as the world panics. Listening to the news and the social media, all one will see is trouble and fear driving up the panic.

The believer needs to trust that God is in control of every situation. There is nothing the enemy or the things of this world that can be done to harm him for eternity. There is no reason to run out of fear.

There may be things in your life or around you that seem large and dangerous. The world may be telling you to run in fear because of those things.

You have a choice to make. You can run as the world runs and not trust God. Or you can trust God and keep moving forward, knowing that God is in control of what is occurring.

Do not allow fear to dictate your life, but the word of God. God has promised to take care of you, so do not run as the world runs.

I pray today that you will know God’s love for you; that you will know that God is in control; that you will not fear what the world fears; that you will trust God for everything; and that you will be a witness of God’s great control.

1 Timothy 6:11 Run Away And Chase

“But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.” 1 Timothy 6:11

Paul tells Timothy to flee all of this. What is “this”? Looking back at the previous few verses, it is the things of this world. It is wealth, false teaching, and other harmful desires.

For a person to flee, it is to run away as fast as possible. When a person is being chased by a wild animal, he will run as fast as possible to get away. If he knows that there is danger ahead, he will try to go a different route. Most people will run away from danger, rather than go up to it, if they realize it is dangerous.

The world tries to say that the things they have and are doing are not dangerous. God, however, says that all those things are dangerous. They will pull a person away from Him and send them on a path to hell.

Timothy was told to pursue the things of God. These things are righteousness, doing the right thing; godliness, living like Jesus; love, loving God and everyone else; endurance, hanging in there when times are rough; and gentleness, being soft and kind to others.

To pursue something is to chase after it, track it down, seek it out. A person pursuing an animal during a hunt will keep going step by step for a long time in order to catch that animal. Regardless of which way the animal turns, the hunter will keep following in order to get that prize.

As a believer, you must chase after the things of God. Strive to have everything God wants you to have. Do not get caught up in the temporary things of this world.

God can give you more than the world will ever be able to offer. He is willing to give it to you, if you are willing to accept it.

Chase after God and be like Jesus and the reward will be great.

Chase after the things of this world, and you will lose all in the end.

I pray today that God will help you run away from all sin; that you chase after God; that you will chase after being like Jesus; that you will put on the characteristics of Jesus; that you will be more like Jesus everyday; and that God will draw many to Jesus through you.

Romans 16:17 Keep Away

“I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.” Romans 16:17

As Paul is finishing up his letter to the Romans, he gives a final warning to them. He tells them that there will be people who will attempt to cause division and place obstacles in their way. He then tells the people to stay away from such people.

The path every believer is on is Jesus. He is the way, the truth, and the life. Any other path is not correct.

Anyplace that you go, whether work, church, school, or anywhere else, there is usually someone who likes to create division. That person will spread bad rumors about the leader, or constantly argue with a different opinion, or talk about a different path to everyone refusing to follow the path of the leader. The classic example in a church is the decision of the color of the new carpet.

Others will always put obstacles in the path. Some will always find a reason not to do something that is God’s desire, or they will withhold their money to prevent it from happening. It is easy to find reasons why something will not happen when you take your eyes off of God who makes all things possible.

Along with this, there will be people who are teaching things that God’s word does not say. Yes, God’s word says that He loves everyone, but that does not mean He loves their actions and lifestyles. Some will cause division and put obstacles in the way with this type of teaching.

Paul is telling you to watch out for these types of people. On the surface they may look and sound good, but what they teach does not line up with the path Jesus has all believers on. Do not fall for their traps and false teachings. You are to stay away from them. Flee all evil. Do not allow yourself to be led astray.

Keep your eyes on Jesus and His Words. His Word will be a light to your path. The Holy Spirit will guide your every step.

I pray today that you will know the path God has for you; that you will see when others are creating a division; that God will help you see the obstacles the enemy puts in your way; that God will help you flee false teaching; and that you will be led by the Holy Spirit on the path God has for you.
