1 Samuel 2:2 No One Other Than God

Solid rock

“There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.” 1 Samuel 2:2

In the world people are trying to say that all the different gods are all the same. The world believes that a person can believe in any religion or any god that they want and they will be able to get into heaven and heave eternal life. Churches have risen up that teach that all the gods are the same as long as a person truly believes in that god and follows his ways.

When God had blessed Hannah with a son, she gave a prayer to God. In that prayer she recognized that there is no one like God at all. He was set apart as holy and as a solid rock.

There are hundreds of different religions and thousands of different gods that people worship and serve in this world. In all of them, except God, people have to work to be saved and their ways are constantly changing. The requirements are never the same for every person.

God is very different from the other gods. He is the one who came to man first to draw mankind to Him. He does not hide somewhere and then tell man that he must find Him. God makes Himself known.

God is also a solid rock. He does not change from day-to-day or person to person. He is the same yesterday, today and forever with every person regardless of the person’s status in this life. His requirements are the same–believe in Jesus and forgiveness of sins.

It is very simple to follow Jesus and God’s commands. Love God and love others with everything in a person.

With all the other religions, it is a complex set of rules and there are many variables. No one can know that they are saved for sure, accept with Jesus.

Take time to look at who Jesus and God really are. What do they mean to you?

If  you are looking at other beliefs and religions, realize that all the other gods are not real, they are man-made. With man-made gods, they are always changing and there is no simple set of commands to be saved.

Jesus provides you forgiveness and eternal life, without some complex set of rules and requirements. Trust in Jesus alone as the eternal Rock in your life.

I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know how faithful God is; that you will know the holiness of God; that you will know that Jesus is the only way to heaven; and that you will love God with all of your life.

Judges 6:10 Results Of Not Listening

Half Dome

“I said to you, ‘I am the LORD your God; do not worship the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you live.’ But you have not listened to me.” Judges 6:10

There are times that people go through tough situations in their lives. Sometimes these tough situations are because God is allowing the enemy to test them, to determine where their heart really is. Other times the tough situation is a result of bad choices made, refusing to listen to God’s Holy Spirit guiding and directing them.

The nation of Israel had times that they would be overrun by the enemy. They would cry out to God for some help. At one point God had sent a prophet to them to tell them that He had given them a command not to worship the false gods, yet they chose to worship the false gods. They had chosen to not listen to God and the result of an enemy take over had occurred.

God does not want the enemy to take over His people, in reality He wants the enemy defeated. However, when His people are not listening to Him and doing what He says, He allows the enemy to take over.

The purpose of the enemy taking over is to get the attention of His people back on Him.

God is not out to destroy people, but to build them up and give them life. Yet, if they choose not to listen to Him and follow Him, He will do what it takes to get their attention.

As people go through tough times, most people will call out to God for help. This is one of God’s ways to get their attention and focus back on Him. Every believer needs to stay focused on God and listen to Him as they follow Him.

God is not against you, but is for you. He does not want to destroy you, but He needs to you listen to Him and obey Him. He loves you enough that He will do whatever it takes to keep you focused on Him. This may mean going through some tough times.

If you are going through a tough time, turn your entire focus onto God and not the tough time. Allow God to guide you through the situation.

Even when following God, times may be tough, but He will always give you strength to make it through. Don’t turn away from God, but listen to Him.

I pray today that you will know God’s directions; that you will listen to God; that you will obey God; that you will keep your focus on God; and that you will see God’s work in your life.

Joshua 24:23 Yield Your Heart To God

About self

“Now then,” said Joshua, “throw away the foreign gods that are among you and yield your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel.” Joshua 24:23

In this world self is very important. Everything is about self. People are looking at how they can make it for themselves. They want to be pleased and served, before serving others. They want to be taken care of first, above everyone else.

Self is the greatest ‘god’ on this earth. It rises above everything else and any other belief. From birth, most children are to believe in self and are told that they can do anything they want, as long as they try hard. With this training and thinking, people grow up to be doing things for self and not about God or anyone else.

As people focus on self, they cannot yield to others or God. It is all about self and promotion of self.

As Joshua was preparing for his death, he told the people to get rid of all foreign gods and yield their hearts to God.

The Israelites were dealing with physical idols and false gods in their lives. They were to get rid of these idols and gods, so that they could yield their heart to God. They were to stop being about self and follow God with everything that is in them.

Yielding to God is allowing God to take control. He becomes the focus. He is what everything is about. It is no longer about self, but God and His kingdom.

Most people, today, do not physically bow down to idols, but they do worship false gods all the time. They bow to their careers, money, drugs, sex, music, and self. They believe that self is the greatest thing in this world. They don’t have time for God.

There are also many in the church who don’t make time for God.

God wants your whole heart and life. To yield to Him is to give Him absolute control over your heart and life.

Allow God to be the one who makes your heart glad. Allow God to be the one who gives you purpose and meaning in this life.

As you yield your heart to God, you will be able to get rid of the foreign gods in your life, the gods of this world–self, greed, pride, anger, rage, immorality, and more.

Who will you yield to?

Self and this world?

Or God?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that God will help you turn from all false gods; that you will yield your whole heart and life to God; and that you will serve God with all of your heart.

Deuteronomy 29:18 Stay With God

Mushrooms

Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the LORD our God to go and worship the gods of those nations; make sure there is no root among you that produces such bitter poison. Deuteronomy 29:18

In this world there are many different gods to worship and follow. There are many different religions that people all around the world are willing to follow. Some are following direct gods, while others are just beliefs of this world and not following anything but self.

Over the years there have been many people who have turned away from God and turned to one or more of these gods that others follow. Their hearts have strayed away from God. This is not something that just happened one day, it was a process over some time.

Moses had given the people a charge to make sure no one turned their hearts away from God to a false god of the nations. They were not to allow any root to begin to grow that would allow this poison in their lives.

Roots begin to grow in the heart of a person who is not staying in God’s word or is meeting together with other believers on a regular basis. There is no one to help keep the person accountable. They begin to see other beliefs and begin to believe them, rather than God’s word. As that root grows in their hearts, they begin to turn away from God.

Every believer is to keep an eye on his fellow believer, helping keep each other focused on God. This will keep roots of discontent and false belief to rise up in the heart. Daily love and fellowship with believers and God, will keep one from turning away from God to false gods.

You may be a believer who is becoming discontent and are starting to believe in other false gods. Turn your eyes back onto God. Remember what had brought you to God in the first place and stay with God.

As you follow God, help your fellow believers to stay with God. Do not allow any roots of discontent or false belief to rise up. Worship God together and keep Him at the forefront of your lives.

Do not allow yourself or anyone else to walk away from God. Keep the roots of poison out of your lives as you walk with God.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that God will keep you from being poisoned by false beliefs; that you will strive to keep others focused on God; and that God will open your eyes to roots leading you or others astray from Him.

Numbers 25:3 Being Chained Up

Yokes

So Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor. And the LORD’s anger burned against them. Numbers 25:3

While most people will never agree to be a slave or being tied to someone or something, it is a common thing to occur. People are very quick to sell out themselves to someone or something. It is done for popularity, to go with the flow, for personal gain or some other reason, but people allow themselves to be chained to things or others.

There are people who will go into extreme debt, chaining themselves to an object, because of desire to have what someone else has. They then live their lives for that object.

Others will allow themselves to be chained to a false god. Hanging around people who follow some false god, they begin to allow themselves to believe in that god, rather than be faithful to God. They are deceived by those around them into thinking that the false god is the way to go.

As the Israelites were traveling through the wilderness, they came up to some Moabite women. They were invited to be friends with them and were deceived into following the Moabite gods. After a short time, they chained themselves to these gods, causing God’s anger to come upon them.

God is still looking for people who will bind themselves only to Him. He has provided life for every person and deserves their full service. God does not share His position with any other god or object.

Jesus had died on the cross to remove all sins and give eternal life. No other god or object has ever been able to do that. Yet, many people are deceived into following false gods all the time. There are believers in the church who are following false gods, while going to church, appearing to be faithful to God. God’s anger is kindled against the person, though still loves them.

Do not allow yourself to be deceived into follow some false god in your life. The world is ready with many false gods that look enticing and good, but they are still false.

Chain yourself to God and God alone. Follow Jesus, since He is the only One who has died for you and is able to provide eternal life for you. In this way, you will not kindle God’s anger against you, but will know His love.

I pray today that you will know the life God offers you; that you will serve God and God alone; that you will not allow any false gods into your life; and that God will give you strength to turn from any false gods.

Jeremiah 44:8-9 Remembering A Bad Past

Why arouse my anger with what your hands have made, burning incense to other gods in Egypt, where you have come to live? You will destroy yourselves and make yourselves a curse and an object of reproach among all the nations on earth. Have you forgotten the wickedness committed by your ancestors and by the kings and queens of Judah and the wickedness committed by you and your wives in the land of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem? Jeremiah 44:8-9

While in captivity in Babylon, many of the Israelites continued to worship false gods, the very thing that brought them into captivity. God asks them if they remember what their ancestors had done and what it caused. The cost of worshipping these others gods would be that they would become a curse among the nations of the world.

People like to be able to do what they want to do, when they want to do it and how they want to do it. They often refuse to look back at history and see the results of doing things the way that they want to do them. Living in certain lifestyles has shown, over and over, that it will bring about disaster or trouble for a nation. It will lead to the downfall of a great nation.

There are nations today that are crumbling because they had chosen to walk away from God. Families are falling apart because they chose to walk away from God, regardless of their past.

Mistakes that were done in the past by others will be repeated by more people if no lesson is learned. If your family has walked away from God, and you do not learn the consequence of that action, you will repeat it.

Learn the history of people who followed God and who did not. What happened to those people? Let them be examples of how to live your life. Read the Bible and see what happened to Israel when the people chose not to follow God.

God works in the same way today. He will not allow sin to go unpunished if it is not repented of. Do not live in sin. Remembering the past of what was right and what was wrong will keep you focused on what to do. Jesus paid for you sins, now live for Him.

I pray today that you will follow God with all of your life; that you will remember the cost of living in sin; that you will see the results of walking away from God in the lives of others and not make the same mistake; and that you will grow closer to God each day.

Jeremiah 19:15 Words You Don’t Want To Hear

“This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘Listen! I am going to bring on this city and all the villages around it every disaster I pronounced against them, because they were stiff-necked and would not listen to my words.’ ” Jeremiah 19:15

God had begun to pronounce a harsh judgment upon the city of Jerusalem. His words declared that they would be destroyed in a very horrible manner. Their bodies would be laying on the ground for the wild animals to devour. Food would be made so scarce that parents would eat the flesh of their children and each other because of a siege laid against the city. Those who would see them, would be appalled at the horror of it all.

All of these pronouncements against the city were to occur because of the sin of the people. They chose to follow false gods and worship them. They refused to listen to the words of God. God had spoken words of love and care to help build them up, not tear them down, but the words were rejected.

To this day God is still speaking to people. He wants the word spread that He loves them and wants the best for them. It is the entire reason He sent His son Jesus to this world and to the cross. Jesus had to go to a cross to die an extremely painful, humiliating death for the sins of every person who ever lived.

Now the question is what will you do with the words God has given you?

Many you have accepted Jesus in your life and are following Him, but the question is are you following all of His Word?

Jesus has called everyone who believes in Him to be His witness in this world. Being that witness means you will love every person, and, yes, that includes your enemies. You will do good to those who harm you and not curse them. You will also turn away from all sin.

Doing all of these things is a work in progress that is never fully completed. You need to fight to follow all of God’s commands. In doing so, you will not have to hear God bring on the judgment of destruction. If you are bringing people to God on a daily basis, your city will be following God and not false gods.

What words do you want to hear today?

I pray today that you will obey all of God’s commands; that you will know His love for every person; that you will turn away from all sin; and that you will guide others to turn away from all sin.
