I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. Romans 8:18
In this life, there is a lot of suffering. It does not matter whether a person is a believer or not, there is suffering. Suffering comes in many different types of forms.
Individuals suffer from sickness, injury, weariness, confusion, being mislead, abuse, physical defects, loss, fear, depression, and much more. Along with directly suffering, many also suffer from seeing others going through suffering.
Suffering is a common place thing in this world. The majority of the world does not know how to deal with suffering. There are many people who turn to different types of drugs, whether legal or illegal. Others will turn to other people for help. Some will seek out death to end the suffering.
When a person is in the middle of suffering, there does not seem to be any hope or an end to it…unless there is something greater to look forward to in the end. There has to be something to hope in and believe in.
Believers are also subject to suffering. Jesus even said that there would be suffering to occur. Yet, as a believer, one has hope, a future to look forward to.
Paul said that with all the sufferings that they are going through as a believer, it does not compare to what is to come.
There is suffering in the life of a believer, because he lives in a fallen world. God also allows suffering to build a person up in Him. It causes a believer to focus on God and what He is doing. It causes the believer to lean on God and His strength during the time of trouble.
The time of suffering that you may be going through is only temporary. God is working in your life to make you more like Jesus. There is coming a day when He will call you home and you will step into eternity shining bright for the rest of eternity.
While on this earth, you can shine the light and hope of Jesus to the rest of this world that there is a hope beyond the suffering. There is a purpose to go on living. There will be an end to all suffering at some point.
Do not be discouraged in your suffering, but focus on the greater things to come!
I pray today that you will know the hope you can have in Jesus; that you will know the future God has for you; that God’s presence will strengthen you in your suffering; and that you will lean on God during your suffering.
A few days ago I had to drive a several hour drive to Dallas. On the way there the weather was cloudy with some drizzling rain. At a few points on the road, there was some heavy fog. It brought visibility down a lot. I could only see about 1/4 to 1/2 of a mile ahead, and that was seeing other vehicles with their lights on. If they did not have their lights on, it was a lot shorter distance of seeing anything.
Driving in that type of fog is not always the safest thing to do. The traffic did slow down to about 60, on a 75 mph road. Most people were wise enough to have their headlights on, though some did not.
As I drove through the fog, I had to keep my eyes focused ahead for the traffic. The good part was that the highway was a divided highway, thus I did not have to worry at all about any on-coming traffic. I did have to be ready to slow down quickly, when I approached another vehicle that was going much slower than I was. I even had some vehicles that passed by my going much faster than I was willing to drive in that fog.
While driving through that fog, it made me think of the verse, in the KJV:
1 Corinthians 13:12 King James Version (KJV)
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
Or in the NIV:
1 Corinthians 13:12 New International Version (NIV)
12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
Seeing through a glass or a reflection in a mirror is not always very clear, just like seeing through the fog. In this verse it is talking about fully knowing God. Right now we look at the Bible and see a picture of God or at creation and see some of the attributes of God, but we cannot see Him clearly.
However, what made me think of this verse with the fog, was looking at the life we live here on this earth. As we travel the roads of life there are times it is nice and clear with the sun shining bright. It appears as though we can see several miles down the road. We can see everyone around us and any dangers that may be up ahead.
This is the type of life everyone wants. A smooth traveling, straight path, with no danger in sight. Even though this type of path may happen in our lives at times and it may happen for a few days, weeks, or maybe even months, it does not stay that way all the time.
There always comes times of rough roads and times where it is difficult to see the path ahead. Sudden sickness, job loss, break downs, disasters, and the list goes on, come into our lives. As we are going through the tough time, we often cannot see the end of the road. We cannot see what is coming up ahead. It is as though we are looking through a dark glass, or traveling through the fog.
When I drove through the fog, I did not know how long or far it would last. I only knew that there was fog and I had to keep going forward. I also knew that the fog would come to an end eventually.
Life works the same way. We don’t always know what is coming up ahead. Sometimes it is full of fog and hidden from view and can be a little scary.
The important thing to remember is that God is in control of your future and path. He is guiding your every step.
Psalm 37:23 New International Version (NIV)
23 The Lord makes firm the steps
of the one who delights in him;
Just as with driving down the road in the fog, one must keep an eye on the white line on the side and the yellow lines in the middle to guide his path, you must also keep your eyes on God and His path for you.
God does not want you to be afraid of the road in front of you. He has given you everything you need to keep moving forward on the path He has for you. That path will ultimately take you to heaven to be with Him for all eternity. At that point the path will be lit up brightly for all eternity, there will be no more sorrow, pain or suffering.
We may not see everything very clearly right now, but we can rest assured that God knows what He is doing. He has your best interest in mind as He allows things to happen in your life.
Keep driving down the road, though it may be foggy today, it will be sunny in the end.
The righteous perish, and no one take it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death. Isaiah 57:1-2
Death is something that most people have been around at least once or more times in their life. The older a person is, the more that he has seen death. As it occurs, often the question is asked, why?
Death is very hard on those who are still living. Those living are hurting from missing the loved one. Many go through struggles as to why the person had to die, especially when the person was very young, and maybe in great health.
It is even more difficult to see a person die young, who was a strong believer in Jesus and very active in being a witness. Looking at that person, others ask why God would remove that person because he was doing great work for God.
Although the reasons that God takes the life of a believer are as numerous as the stars in the sky and no one can fully understand the reason, Isaiah gives one good reason. That reason is to spare that person from evil, to give him rest and peace.
God knows the past, present and future of every person on this earth. He knows exactly what is going to happen to that person. As a human being, you do not know those things. you do not know how rough life will get for a person if he stays alive, but God does. God in His great wisdom and mercy will take the life of a person in order to spare them from a great evil.
Although as a human, you will miss the person, keep in mind where a dying believer will be when he dies. When a believer dies, he gets to go to Jesus and be at peace and rest for the rest of eternity. He steps into a world that is without pain, suffering or any evil.
As hard as it is to let someone go, let God’s wisdom prevail and let that person have the peace and rest God provides. Keeping a person here on this earth may be worse than the pain you are feeling in losing him. Trust God today and seek His peace and strength in your loss.
I pray today that you will know God’s peace in your life; that God will comfort any loss in your life; that you will know the joy of others going to heaven; and that God presence will be strong in your life.
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation will last forever, my righteousness will never fail. Isaiah 51:6
When a person is a young child, seeing someone who is in his 30s appears to be very old and been around forever. Later when the child is in his 20s, seeing a person in his 40s-50s appears to be very old and been around forever. As the child gets into his 40s-50s, those that are in their 70s are old and been around forever.
As a human being, forever is a difficult concept to understand. Humans typically live about 80 years or so and then die. Looking around some people will be older, while some will be younger. However, looking at the earth and the heavens, both are older than any human on the earth.
Looking at this world, it does appear that it has been around forever and will be here forever. The reality of it is that the heavens and the earth will be destroyed some day. All the great beauty of this world, the mountains, the lakes, the oceans, rivers, prairies, hills, and the plants of this world will be gone someday.
People like to put their trust in the things that they can see, other people, the land, the buildings, the money and most anything else. All these things will die and fade away for all eternity.
The salvation that Jesus provides will not fade away. It will last for all eternity. Believing in Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins will get you life forever.
Instead of looking to the things of this world to provide for all of your needs, look to God. Look to what is important in light of living forever. If you will live forever, the things you are going through today are worth nothing. These things are only a passing quick moment in eternity.
God will never fail you. His righteousness will never fail. If you have repented of your sins and believed in Jesus, you will be saved. Salvation is coming. God will not be slow in making it happen, in His time.
Hang in there till Jesus returns or calls you home, it will be worth it all.
I pray today that you will know the salvation Jesus provides; that you will trust Jesus with your eternity; that you will not fear the present world or situations in your life; and that you will trust God to guide your life here on this earth till you step into eternity.
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his faithful servants. Psalm 116:15
Death is something that people love to avoid and hate to talk about. Yet death is a very well known part of life. Most people have experienced being around death at some point in their life, either directly with someone they personally know or about someone they are familiar with.
Parents get old and die. Loved ones get killed in an accident. Someone dies from a disease. People read in the news about someone getting killed or dying.
When a person dies, there is usually a funeral or memorial service to remember the life the person had lived. During this time, it is usually a sad time for most people. The sadness comes from losing someone who they cared about and loved. The closer the person was, the more painful it is.
God looks at death as something different, especially for believers. When someone who believes in Jesus dies, God finds it as a good thing to happen.
Thinking that death is a good thing, can be morbid to most people. And for most it would be something to be dreaded. The majority of the world does not believe in Jesus. Since that is the case, most of the people in this world do not have anything to look forward to when they die.
Believers, however, get to look forward to eternity in heaven. God looks at it as the ultimate healing and provision. Once you die and go to heaven, you have no more needs. You will never have pain or suffering again.
One thing that you will have is all eternity in heaven with the one who loved you and saved you from your sins. God is excited about that.
If you have a loved one who loved and served God that is dying, look at it as the best healing that they can receive. They get the greatest gift ahead of you, eternity in heave with Jesus and the Father.
Do not fear death, but look at it as a step into eternity with God. Remain faithful to God and He will remain faithful to you and save you. You will step into heaven someday. Look forward to that day.
Rejoice when you see a believer step into heaven. Rejoice as you see your day approaching to step into heaven. Do not fear it or mourn it.
I pray today that you will know the love God has for you; that God will remove all fear of death; that God will reveal what He has in store for you; and that you find joy in believers stepping into heaven.
“Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.” Revelation 22:14
In the vision God has destroyed the earth, wiped out all sin, and all believers are going into heaven. Jesus states that those who have washed their robes are blessed and are allowed to eat of the tree of life and enter into the heavenly city.
The robe is what covers the body. It is what is seen on the outside of a person. If the person cleans the body, but puts on a dirty robe, he is still dirty. What people will see is the filth of the dirty robe, not the clean body underneath it.
When Jesus died on the cross, His blood took away the sins of a person. It cleansed the person on the inside. After that they must clothe themselves with Jesus. They must put on His righteousness. This is the doing what Jesus would do, being right as He is right.
This process of putting on Jesus, is the washing of your robe. It is cleansing your outside actions to show Jesus to the world.
Many people say they love and serve Jesus, but their actions show something different. Do your actions match your words?
Once this is done, you have the right to eat of the tree of life. That tree is the same one that Adam and Eve were told not to eat of, and were banned from so that they could not eat of it. It is the tree that gives life for eternity.
Washing your robe also gives you the right to enter the new Jerusalem. This is the new city of God in heaven. This is where there will be no more pain or suffering of any type.
I trust that you are already following Jesus, that you believe in what He has done for you. Now, have you cleansed your robe?
Have you put on Jesus so that your words and actions match what your heart is saying?
Are you truly loving and serving God with your life?
If you are, some day you will be allowed by God to enter His city.
I pray today that you will follow Jesus with all of your life; that you will allow God to wash your robes of all sin; that you will live a righteous life before all men; and that Jesus will give you His righteousness to be pure before the Father.
