Mark 13:23 Be On Guard!

So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time. Mark 13:23

Security guards have to walk around, remaining wide alert as to what is going on around them. They are aware of who is around and what people are doing in the area.

Guards understand that at any moment someone could do something wrong. They also realize that most people who plan to do something wrong will try to cover up the action, doing it covertly. Knowing this will cause the guard to be more on guard.

Jesus had told the disciples of things to come. The purpose for that information was so they could be more on guard against false prophets and teaching.

All over the world there are many false teachings going on inside and outside the church. Often these teachings can sound good and biblical. However, if one looks at these teachings closely, he will be able to discern that they do not fully line up with scripture.

This can be seen in being told God loves everyone, so people can live alternate lifestyles and it is acceptable. This is false teaching that does not come from God. It is taking some truth and mixing it with a lie.

Every believer must be filled with God’s Holy Spirit and be able to discern the truth. The true spirit behind the words must be recognized. False teachings will be taught but must be rejected by true believers.

The closer to Christ’s return, the more deception will be taught. Satan and the world does not want Jesus to win and will do whatever they can to deceive and destroy every believer.

In knowing and following Jesus every believer can know the truth because Jesus is truth. God never lies or deceives.

As a believer, you must always be on your guard. The world is out to trap you in many ways. The greatest trap is within your mind, causing you to think and believe the lies being taught or said.

Seek God’s Holy Spirit to open your eyes to be aware of what is going on around you. Be on your guard against the attacks, lies and deception of the enemy.

The world wants nothing more than to destroy you and get you to compromise your walk with God. However if you trust in God and remain in Jesus, you will win in the end.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will be filled with the Holy Spirit; that God will help you stay alert to the attacks and lies of the enemy; and that God will help you to know the truth of what is occurring.

1 Kings 3:9 What To Ask God For

“So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” 1 Kings 3:9

God had been pleased with Solomon and allowed him to ask for anything that he would want from Him and He would grant it. Out of all of the possible things that Solomon could have asked for, he asked for a discerning heart, or wisdom.

Over the years many stories have been told of a genie granting someone three wishes. The person given the chance to make the wishes usually has a very difficult time making a decision as to what he wants, especially when it comes to the last wish. Once the wishes has been made, it is usually shown that there are often some severe consequences that occur because of the wish made. Look at king Midas asking that everything he touches would turn to gold. He dies for lack of food because everything became gold.

Solomon could have asked for fame, or wealth, or a great kingdom, but he chose wisdom. Wisdom comes from God and Solomon knew that. He wanted to be able to make the right decisions every time. He wanted to be able to have the correct understanding of every situation. This ability can only come from God.

Many people rely on their own wisdom and understanding of things. This type of wisdom is short-sighted and faulty. God’s wisdom is perfect and eternal.

Jesus has said that we can ask for anything (in His name and will) and He will give it to us.

If God was to tell you that you could ask for anything and He would give it, what would you ask for?

Wealth?

Fame?

Peace?

Security?

Power?

I pray today that God will fill you with His wisdom; that you will know God; that you will make choices that will please God; and that your heart will follow after God’s heart.

1 Corinthians 2:14 Understanding The Things Of God

“The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 2:14

When the world looks at Christianity and the things of God, all they see is foolishness. They do not understand why God has certain rules in place. They do not understand why a person cannot live any way he chooses or why some things are wrong and others are not. It is foolish for a person to give up things and ways in order to follow Jesus according to the world.

This can easily be seen any where you look in this world. Paul gives the reason is that they do not have the Spirit of God in them. The person who has the Spirit of God in himself is able to understand better why God has him doing (or not doing) the things he does and what God is doing. The Spirit of God is the only one who can truly understand God and He is the one who makes it clear to a believer.

Think about when you see someone you know really well does a crazy reaction to something such as running away from a small little, harmless spider. Most people think it is funny and ridiculous. Yet, you, knowing your friend really well, knew that many years ago as a child he was bit by a small dangerous spider and now has a fear of all spiders. Knowing that makes sense as to why he does what he does.

The Holy Spirit fully knows why God does what He does and has you doing or not doing something. He then gives the believer understanding and peace about the situation. The world cannot understand this because they do not have the Spirit of God in them.

Seek God’s Spirit today to guide you into understanding God more. Ask His help to accept the things God asks you to do.

God tells you that you are to walk by faith, not by sight. This can only be done when you discern through the Spirit what is happening. Otherwise, it will be foolishness.

I pray today that you will be led by God’s Holy Spirit; that you will understand what God is doing and having you do; that you will trust that God is having you do the best things; and that you will accept what God is telling you to do.
