They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?” Exodus 14:11
The past can hold a treasure chest full of good things to remember. Not always are the things remembered necessarily good, but it is good to remember them. It can help to guide a person on the path through this life.
Remembering that the stove is hot when it is on and is touched is a good thing to remember. It helps a person to keep from being burned again. At the same time remembering how great a time was when there was a get together with some other person after a long period of time, can also be a good thing to remember. This will encourage the person to keep the relationship alive.
The Israelites had been under slavery for about 430 years and had been crying out to God for relief. God sends Moses to bring them out of Egypt. The process of bringing them out was to use great miracles to break down Pharaoh. They saw wonders that would blow the mind.
Yet, shortly after they left Egypt they came to the Red Sea and was trapped between the sea and the armies of Egypt. Immediately they forgot what God had already done for them and were crying out in fear against Moses. They thought that they were going to get killed by the armies of Egypt. However, God had a plan to save them and allow them to cross the Red Sea on dry ground.
Many believers, when they are in a troubling situation, are very quick to forget what God has already done for them. They forget about the guidance, the provision, and His love for them. Then they run or cry out in fear, instead of trusting God.
Each time you see God do something for you in your life, remember it. Then when a bad situation in life rises up, remember how God had already taken care of you. Give Him praise for what He has already done and trust Him for what He is going to do for you.
God will not leave you or forsake you. He is there to help you through every situation, no matter how big or small. Do not be quick to forget that and what He has done.
I pray today that you will remember what God has done for you; that you will know the peace of God in your life; that you will trust God in bad situations; that you will know that God is for you and not against you.
By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light so that they could travel by day or night. Exodus 13:21
Traveling through an unknown area can be challenging. This becomes even more true when there is no direct road to take. The challenge becomes even much harder when there is no map to follow. Then a person must add on traveling through an area with very few people and no towns or cities. Traveling becomes almost impossible.
This is the type of traveling the Israelites had to go through when they left Egypt. They really didn’t know where they were going or how to get there.
Going through life is not a whole lot different then the Israelites traveling through the wilderness. No person really knows the path to take. There are too many different possibilities and too many different paths. At any moment the time to turn could come up. A person needs to be guided as to how to make it through this life.
Often people turn to others who have made the path to determine how to make it themselves. They seek advice from other people, which may be correct or incorrect. It may work or it may not.
God had chosen to lead the Israelites through the desert. He showed up as a pillar of cloud during the day and a pillar of fire at night. He let them know when to start moving and when to stop, when to turn and when to go straight. This occurred 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All they had to do was look up and know where to go next in their lives.
Things have not changed since the Israelites have left, except God no longer uses a pillar of cloud or fire to lead a person. As a believer you can have God’s Holy Spirit guide you through this life. He now lives in you and is with you to guide you through this life.
God is willing to show you the path to take that is the best path to take. He will never steer you wrong. At any moment in your life God will let you know when to move, stop, or make a turn.
All you need to do is allow Him to guide you. Is God your guide?
I pray today that you will know God’s Holy Spirit in your life; that you will listen to God’s guidance; that you will walk the path God has for you; and that you will follow God all the days of your life.
