Exodus 34:6-7 God’s Description Of Himself

“And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, The LORD, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.” Exodus 34:6-7

Moses had asked God to show Himself to him. God reveals the backside glory of Himself to Moses. As He passes by Moses, He gives a description of who He is.

He is compassionate and gracious. God feels for all of your pain and struggles. He is patient and gentle with His people. God works with those who are striving to live for Him.

God abounds in love and faithfulness. God’s love and faithfulness never ends. Whatever He says can be trusted. He will only do what is best for you because of His great love for you.

God is willing to forgive any sins  you may have committed. His love for you sent Jesus, His Son, to die on the cross, so that you could be forgiven of all of your sins.

Most people love the first part of this and stop there. However, God also a righteous judge. He will not allow anyone who is guilty to go unpunished. You may not see the punishment in this life, but it will occur. Any person who has not been forgiven of their sins by believing in what Jesus did for them, will be punished.

Take a few moments to sit and think about who God is. Most people see either just the great love of God, or they just see the hard judgements of God. Yet, here you can see that God is a loving and righteous judge.

God loves you greater than any person on this earth could ever love you, yet, He is also going to judge all sin. Seek the forgiveness that Jesus offers. Do not allow yourself to live in sin and get punished. Do not try God’s patience.

Who is God to you today?

Is He just love and compassionate?

Or is He just a judge?

Or is He both?

I pray today that God will reveal His glory to you; that you will see God for who He really is; that God will reveal His love to you; that God will reveal His judgments to you; and that you will know and worship God for who He is.
