Joshua 21:44 The Enemy Cannot Hold Out

The Lord gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the Lord gave all their enemies into their hands. Joshua 21:44

Battles occur all over the world on a regular basis. Often the striking enemy is able to overcome those being attacked. This can occur because the strength of the enemy is so great, or that the one being attacked does not have the resources to defend, or that they give up in the fight out of fear.

Every so often there is a very small group that is able to defeat a very large enemy.

God gave the Israelites the promised land and then gave them rest. None of the enemies were able to stand up against the Israelites because God gave them into their hands.

Any person who is following God with all of his heart, mind, soul and strength will have some enemies. While most will not have enemies that physically strike them, there will be enemies that strive to stop them from believing in Jesus or at least distract them in their walk with God.

The most common enemy is inside the heart and mind of each individual. Thoughts will often lead a person astray, giving the enemy victory over the believer.

Jesus defeated the enemy–sin–with His death and resurrection. Then He gave believers all His authority to overcome the enemy and gave His Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen them in their victory.

Believers who choose to not stand in His promises and be led by the Holy Spirit, will be defeated by the enemies in their lives. God has given all that is needed to have victory over the enemy as long as one will take it. The world cannot stand up against a believer who is trusting in God’s promises.

You have enemies in your life that are warring for your soul and mind. It is a battle to get you to sin against God and follow the ways of the world.

God is ready to hand the enemy over into your hands and give you victory, however, you must choose to follow His ways and be led by the Holy Spirit. Do not give in or back down from standing up against the enemy, you are given victory.

Jesus has already defeated the enemy, now stand in that victory.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the victory Jesus has won; that you will stand in God’s power and authority against the enemy; that you will choose to follow God with all of your life; and that you will see God defeat the enemies of your soul.

Joshua 6:10 A Time To Be Silent

But Joshua had commanded the army, “Do not give a war cry, do not raise your voices, do not say a word until the day I tell you to shout. Then shout!” Joshua 6:10

Sports teams are groups of people who are ready to take on another team who are the ‘enemy’. At the time of the competition the fans will raise their voices in support of their team to try and intimidate the opposing team. Some of the players will make comments to break down the moral of the other team.

Very rarely will a team go into a competition in silence.

As the Israelites were getting ready to take down Jericho, Joshua told the people to be silent, to not raise a war cry or their voice until told to shout and then they were to shout.

Going into any type of battle, whether physical or otherwise, and remaining silent is difficult for most people. Everyone wants their voice to be heard, to be heard as right and to bring on intimidation in cutting down the enemy verbally.

Acting in this way, with voices, represents how the world does things. Satan often speaks lies to intimidate and detour the believer in his devotion and obedience to God. Believers will often speak up to defend themselves.

When God is at work, the believer does not have to add to what needs to be done. All the believer needs to do is walk in faith, keeping his mouth shut until it is the right time to speak or shout. He is to be led by God’s Holy Spirit as to when to say something or be quiet.

During times of silence, the enemy cannot know what is going on or is about to happen. At the right time the enemy can be taken by surprise with God’s power.

You most likely have some enemies in your life that need to be defeated. It is easy to try and take them on in your own power, your own way and your own time. Doing so may, however, bring on your own defeat.

Seek God’s direction in dealing with the enemy. He may require a time of being silent and waiting for the right time to shout. Trust that God knows the best way to defeat the enemies in your life. Give Him complete authority and walk in His ways.

Be silent when needed and shout when needed.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know God’s directions in defeating the enemies in your life; that God will reveal to you when to be silent and when to shout; and that you will trust God’s timing and ways in overcoming the enemy.

Psalm 8:2 Praise: The Greatest Stronghold

Singing worship

Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. Psalm 8:2

All over the world people and nations are constantly seeking ways to defeat their enemies. They want to know what it will take to stop the enemy from being able to attack and win a battle.

Walls, gates, and security systems are put in place everywhere one looks. Security guards are set up to watch out for the enemy. Billions of dollars are spent to ‘protect’ themselves from the enemy. Spies are enlisted to find out information about the enemy and how to defeat them.

Yet, the enemy still is able to get in and destroy. Sometimes just a little, while other times a lot.

David points out that a great stronghold against the enemy is found in the simplest of ways. It is found in praise of the children and infants. Praise is what silences the enemy.

One may wonder how praise can be a stronghold against the enemy and how it can silence the enemy. Praise takes the focus off of self and off of the enemy. It points one towards God.

Praise gives God all of the credit and the power to do what needs to be done. It builds the faith of the believer as he focuses his mind and heart on praising God. In this way it focuses on what God can do, not what the enemy is trying to do.

With God all things are possible, so as one is praising God, God is able to defeat the enemy. The enemy may be physical, but more often it is a spiritual enemy. these are the enemy of the thoughts, words and actions of self. One cannot praise God and live in sin at the same time, it is one or the other. When praising God one is living for God.

As you face enemies in your life, both physical and mental, turn your focus away from the enemy and towards God. Notice how big God is and how small the enemy really is. Begin to give God praise and worship and see what He can do.

Praising God builds a fortress of God around your life. It puts up a barrier around your thought life to block out unwanted thoughts to enter. As these thoughts are blocked, you can live for God.

Give God praise today!

I pray today that your heart will be overwhelmed with praise to God; that you will see reasons to praise God through all circumstances; that your heart will be filled with joy at praising God; and that you will see God block the enemies of your soul through your praise.

2 Samuel 22:50 Praise The Lord

Therefore I will praise you, LORD, among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name. 2 Samuel 22:50

David is remembering all the things God has done for him. He is remembering how God protected him from his enemies, helped him defeat other nations, and set him free from all of his enemies. Since God had done all those things, David is choosing to praise God everywhere he goes and to continually sing praises to Him.

When a person has something very good happen to them, they want to tell other people about it. They are not quiet about it. when they go to work, they tell of their good story. They also report it on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and numerous other social media sites. People want to let others know of what is good in their life.

As a believer, you also have had good things happen to you. God has done great things to and for you. At the very least, Jesus has forgiven you of your sins and given you a new life. You are now at peace with God. God has helped you defeat the enemies of sin and death.

Along with the salvation God has given you, there are other ways God has blessed you. Think about it. You got up this  morning, you can breathe, you can move, you have some type of electronic device in order to see and read this post, and much more

Do not be like most of the world and take all of these things for granted. Realize how much God has blessed you. Once you realize how much God has blessed you, tell everyone you meet. Praise God wherever you go. Let the world know of your love for God. Have a song of praise on your lips at all times.

I pray today that you will know the blessings God has given you; that you will not look only at the trouble in your life; that you will tell others how God has blessed you; and that you will sing praises to God continually.
