You have turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise you forever. Psalm 30:11-12
In times of pain or sorrow, people will weep and wail, losing all joy in their life. During these times many people will turn to drugs or other things to try and cope with the pain that they are going through. Some will even seek death because the pain and suffering is so great that they feel that life cannot go on.
The things that the world uses to cope with the pain never really solve the problem. With those things there is no hope really given.
David had been going through some painful times and had been weeping and wailing before God for mercy. As he did that God heard his prayers and did help him. He put on new clothes of righteousness that brought about joy in his life. The purpose for the new clothing was to give Him praise and tell others about what God had done.
Believers today often go through difficult times. Sometimes it is brought on by personal sin in their lives, other times it is from other people. They cry out to God for mercy and God still hears to this day.
People can be clothed with the righteousness of Jesus, removing all sin and shame and filling them with everlasting joy. However, this is not just for personal relief, but to be a witness to others. It is to openly give God praise, letting the world know what He has done.
No matter what a person has done, God is there ready to forgive and move forward. He wants His people to filled with His joy being able to sing praises.
God is there today ready to forgive you and remove your dirty old clothes of sin and shame. He is ready to change your wailing to dancing and fill you with His joy that the world cannot understand.
When God pulls you through a difficult situation or has forgiven you of something you have done wrong, be willing to sing praises to Him. Be willing to share that out loud with those around you. Put joy on your face and live in that joy.
Do not stay in sorrow or pain, but accept what God has for you, knowing the hope you have in Jesus of eternal life some day.
I pray today that you will seek God with all of your heart; that you will know the forgiveness God has for you; that God will fill you with His joy; and that you will praise God for His great mercy in your life.
So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouts, with the sounding of rams’ horns and trumpets, and of cymbals, and the playing of lyres and harps. 1 Chronicles 15:28
As a famous singer or band comes out on stage for a concert, the people go crazy. They shout and scream with excitement at the idea of the singer coming out. They are excited to see the person or band.
People love to be in the presence of someone famous. The closer they are to the celebrity, the more excitement there is. Many want to be as close as possible. Some will even fight to get closer, just so they can say they were near the person.
For a number of years, the ark of the covenant had been captured by the Philistines. Then as they began to bring it back, an accident occurred, causing them to leave it out of the city. Finally, David was able to go and bring it back to Jerusalem.
As they were bringing the ark back into the city, the people were shouting, dancing and making a lot of noise. They were excited for it to be back. The ark meant God’s presence was back with them. They had the hand of God’s favor on them again and there was no holding back the excitement.
Believers can have God’s presence with them every day. Yet, many do not show any joy in their lives at what they have. They let the cares and fears of this world to overcome them, stealing their joy.
God’s presence, means that the believer has the King of the universe in their presence. This should bring joy and excitement, a joy and excitement that cannot be contained. One should be willing to shout it out loud what is happening. Let the world know that God’s presence is there.
God’s presence is also with you, if you are trusting in Jesus. Open your eyes and heart to see and know His presence with you. Then realize Who is really with you.
With God’s presence in your life, you will have victory over this world. There is peace and a joy that the world cannot understand.
As you allow God’s presence in your life, let the excitement and joy begin to show. Let the world know that God is with you. Be willing to shout and dance with joy at God’s presence. God is in the house today!
I pray today that you will know God’s presence in your life; that you will know the joy of knowing God; that you will not be ashamed of Jesus; and that you will let the world know who Jesus is.
“I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.” 2 Samuel 6:22
Being humiliated is something that most people do not like to have happen to them. It creates embarrassment and humbles a person. The majority of people will do some things crazy and that will be slightly humiliating but will not cross a line, they will only go so far.
The reason most people will only go so far is that they know people are watching them. They do not want to stand out as very different. Most people want to fit in with what others are doing, instead of going against the flow.
For a number of years the ark of the covenant had not been in Bethlehem. David had his army go and get the ark back from the Philistines. As it was being brought into the city, David started dancing like crazy. He was jumping around with excitement, knowing the ark was back where it belonged.
His wife, Michal, saw him and was upset. She did not like how he acted, since David was the king of Israel. He was not acting properly for his position. David told her that he would act even more undignified and be humiliated in his own eyes.
David knew the value and importance of the ark of the covenant. He was willing to show his true emotions of extreme excitement at getting it back.
Although today, the ark is no longer used, there is God’s presence in a believer’s life. The believer can show extreme excitement for God when He shows up.
Many believers hold themselves in check. They want to be prim and proper around others. They do not have the extreme joy of knowing God in their lives. They do not want to stand out as different.
When God is present in your life, you will not care about what others are thinking. Your focus will be on God. You can become like a little child before God and show your love for Him in ways that are not always conventional.
This can be humiliating, because that is not the way most people do things or act. Yet, if it is done out of true love for God, it is great before God.
Do not worry about what others think, but allow your heart to follow after God with extreme excitement.
I pray today that you will know the joy of knowing Jesus; that you will know the excitement of having God in your life; that you will allow Jesus to be raised up as you are lowered; and that the world will see your love for God.
You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. LORD my God, I will praise you forever. Psalm 30:11-12
Seeing a person who is filled with extreme joy is a rare occurrence. Seeing someone who is filled with extreme joy, while going through a trial is even more rare.
When a person is seen who is filled with joy, many people often wonder why he is filled with joy? What gave her such happiness? What went right for that person?
Usually it is something that they had been desiring had occurred. Something had went right for that person to bring on that great joy.
Looking around, it is easy to find reasons to not have much, if any, joy. However, believers have something going for them that should give them great joy. The beginning of a believer’s joy is that God has forgiven his sin. God has removed the sackcloth of shame and sorrow and clothed him with joy and peace that Jesus can give him.
Looking around and seeing the trouble in this world can bring much wailing. The challenges and trials in life can weigh a person down. However, looking up to God and seeing how He is in control and will overcome the sin of this world, should bring about dancing.
God has also filled you with His Holy Spirit. One of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is joy. When God comes and places His Holy Spirit in a believer, that person should be filled with joy.
Think of how many times God has answered a prayer for you. Allow those times to fill you with joy. Think of how many times God has spared something worse from happening in your life. Give God praise for those times.
As you look at your life and see what God has done for you, start dancing and praising Him. Do not allow yourself to be silent in what God has done in and through you.
What can you praise God for today?
Are you silent?
Or are you loud before God?
I pray today that you will know the joy of God’s presence; that you will see that God has removed the old clothes; that your heart will be filled with extreme joy; and that you will sing songs of praise to God.
