Genesis 12:1 Not All The Details Are Always Given

The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” Genesis 12:1

Knowing and understanding of what is expected is desired of most people. Not having a clear understanding of a job description can make it very difficult for people to fulfill a job.

Some will attempt to get out of doing a job because of the lack of details, while others will just do their own thing and sometimes miss the job entirely. The more details the less chance of mistake and easier to follow.

God tells Abram to leave his land, family and people to go to a land that He will show him, but does not tell him where he is going.

Picking up suddenly to leave to go somewhere where one does not know where he is going or what he will be doing there is very scary for most people. Most people, upon hearing something like that from God, would question God or question whether they actually heard from God. They would want to know the details of how to get to where they are going and where they are going.

God does not always provide all the details when He is giving some instructions. The believer is to hear God, trust God and act upon what he is being told. It is a walk of faith, knowing that God knows what He is doing and asking of the believer.

In order to act and live this way, a person must give up his control and his rights to God. He must be willing to give God complete control over his life, knowing that God will never do what is eternally bad in the life of any believer who trusts Him. Walking this way will allow God to great and mighty things through the believer.

God may never ask you to leave everyone behind and move to an unknown place, but He will ask you to do things that you may not fully understand. All the details will not always be given.

Your job with God is to trust and obey His every word. It is to step out in faith knowing that God will be with you and allowing Him to reveal the details when they are needed. Your life needs to be a walk of faith in God, not self or the details.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will hear God’s commands to you; that you will trust God’s word to you; that you will live a life of faith in God; and that God will work great works through you in building His kingdom on this earth.

Hebrews 11:16 What Are You Longing For?

Instead, they were longing for a better country–a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. Hebrews 11:16

Nearly every person desires for something to be better than what it is. People can always find ways or things that could be improved in their own lives or around them. No matter how great a nation is, a person can find something that could be better and they wish it could happen.

While most have these desires, most also do not know how to make it happen or even expect things to change.

As the author of Hebrews lists people of the bible and how they lived by faith, he points out that they were looking for a country that is in heaven. With this longing in their hearts, God calls them His people and prepared for them a city.

Although most people have desires for something to happen, most also do not expect those things to actually occur. Often people lose faith in what could possibly make it happen. This occurs when the change takes too long to become a reality.

True believers will have to live by faith in God. He has promised something 2,000 and more years ago that still has not occurred. God promised life for eternity in heaven, in a place He has prepared for them, but it has yet to happen.

Instead of being like the world, longing for things here on this earth, the believer will have his heart set on things of God. His desire and focus will be on building a greater kingdom that is yet to come. It is focused upon eternity in heaven, rather than the temporary things of this earth.

Living in this way is living by faith in God and what He promised.

You may have many different desires for things in your day-to-day living. There may be many things that you want to see changed or made better. While all of these things may be good, they are not always what is best and many may be just temporary changes.

Allow your focus and trust be upon God and His eternal kingdom. Keep working in faith to build His kingdom greater and greater until it is fulfilled for all eternity.

Do not lose heart in the failures of this world, but trust God in His promises and long for what He has for you.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will have faith in all of God’s promises; that you will desire what God has for you; that you will focus on building God’s eternal kingdom; and that you will live by faith in God.

Hebrews 11:16 What Is Your Heart’s Desire?

Instead, they were longing for a better country–a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. Hebrews 11:16

All around the world there are many people who are longing or desiring for a better place to live. For some it is seeking to be in a different country, while for most it is just in a different part of their own country.

Many feel that if they were living in a certain area, life would just be great with very few problems. Often the perfect place is never actually found.

The author of Hebrews had been talking about men and women of faith. He states that they were seeking a home outside of this earthly realm and that God is preparing them that new home.

While the world is seeking the perfect place to live on this earth, believers have something greater to look forward to. No nation on this earth is perfect, because every nation is made up by and ruled by men who are sinners and fail.

So instead of seeking out a new place here on the earth, believers are looking forward to a new place in heaven.

Every believer is on a journey to a new place being prepared for them in heaven, even while they live on this earth. This journey is one of faith. No one can see the new place in heaven, but believe that God is preparing it for them as He says He is.

As one believes God’s word about eternal life in heaven, it gives one strength to keep moving forward. He will not grow discouraged when faced with the troubles of this world, because he knows that there is a better life coming.

You will have days in your life that there are many struggles. Instead of focusing on a new place here on their earth, focus upon what God has in store for you.

Put your heart upon being with God for eternity in heaven, the best place possible. God is preparing the perfect home for you right now. It will only be a matter of time before you get to go to that new home.

Do not focus upon the temporary places of this earth, that will fade away, but upon God and His kingdom. You belong to God and He will give you the best in the end.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that God will give you a vision of what He has prepared for you; that you will trust God’s promises to you; that you will not get discouraged with the temporary things of this earth; and that you will live to please God.

Genesis 12:1 Leave The Familiar

Walking Out

The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” Genesis 12:1

Most people like to be around people and things that they are familiar with. They like to know all of the people, the places to eat, the roads, the weather, the culture, things to do, and more in the place that they are.

Moving to a new and different place means that they have to learn everything over again. It is a difficult process to learn all about a new area. This change can be found sometimes just in moving across a major city, or across the state, or across the nation.

Yet, change can be as simple as moving to a new job or moving up into a new position in a job. Or it can be getting married, or changing the school one goes to.

In the process of change there are a lot of new things to learn. It is very rarely an easy or a fast process. It takes time to learn, yet, sometimes, moving to a new area can be something better for a person. In the end it can mean better benefits, more and better friends.

Abram was called by God to leave his family and home to go somewhere he had never been. He steps out in faith, trusting God and moves to a new location following God. During this time, Abram did not have Google to look up information about the new area and learn about it. It was something completely new for him. Later, Abram becomes the father of the one who starts the nation of Israel, who touches the entire world.

As a believer, God may call you to step out  in faith into an unknown territory. It may be a physical move to some new area, but it may also be into a new ministry to reach out and touch people.

God will call you to leave your past and familiar ways and things behind in order to follow Him. In the process of leaving behind the familiar, God may have you physically move, but it will always be a spiritual move.

Leave behind the sinful ways. Step into the new location of serving and worshipping God with all of your life and abilities. See how God can use you to touch the world.
