Daniel 1:8 Going Against The Norm

But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. Daniel 1:8

When being given something, most people will accept it without any questions or problems with it. The reason it is often accepted is that no one wants to offend the giver. They want to be grateful for what they are being given.

Along with not wanting to be ungrateful, they also do not want to go against the norm of society. If everyone is doing it, they feel they should do it also. They do not want to buck the system of what to do or not to do. In this way they will compromise their standards and beliefs.

While Daniel was in exile, he was promoted to being a chief official for the king with some others. They were given the best food and drink of the palace. Daniel chose to not eat the food, because it went against God’s chosen diet for him.

Peer pressure to go with the norm of everyone else is great in this world. People will very quickly compromise their standards to gain something or to gain the favor of someone else.

Many believers will often compromise their standards in the walk with God in order to fit in with society or a group of people. They begin to accept and do things that go against what God has told them not to do, just so they do not stand out and appear as ungrateful or as ‘holier-than-thou’.

However, God has called all believers to be separate from this world. They are to stand out as different, a peculiar people and holy unto God. Doing so will cause one to choose to go against the norm of this world, in order to prevent sinning against God in any way.

Think about the things God has told you to do or not to do. These can be anything written in Scripture or told to you by His Holy Spirit. Are you willing to compromise what God has told you in order to fit in with a certain group of people?

Seek God to give you strength to not compromise and step into sin. There is nothing that is worth the price of sinning against God. Do not allow yourself to give into pressure to compromise your walk with God, just to go with the norm.

I pray today that you will know God’s will for you; that God will fill you with His Holy Spirit; that you will be led by the Holy Spirit; and that you will not compromise your walk with God.

Isaiah 36:16 Being Lied To

“Do not listen to Hezekiah. This is what the king of Assyria says: Make peace with me and come out to me. Then each of you will eat fruit from your own vine and fig tree and drink water from your own cistern, Isaiah 36:16

Reports abound everywhere on everything and anything. Some of the reports are filled with truth, while many are false. Some of the false ones are on purpose to lead others astray, while some are false in ignorance.

With a few well said words and being place in strategic places, people will believe just about anything. They can make one believe that he absolutely needs something that will kill him in the end.

As Jerusalem was under attack, Hezekiah was telling the people to not give in to the enemy and to trust in God alone. The king of the enemy tried to tell the people that if they just followed him, making peace, they would get everything that they dreamed of.

Times have not changed. The world wants believers to just believe in what the world is saying. Acceptance of what is sinful is being promoted and believers are expected to agree with it.

Satan promises the world to the believer as long as he compromises his following God. The enemy wants the believer to make peace with him in a way that will destroy his testimony and reject God. The words of the world are said in such a way as to sound good and very promising, but in the end bring about death and separation from God.

The only peace that a believer truly needs is peace with God. Peace with the world is not true peace and will bring about death only. Peace with God is truth and brings about life. Peace with God will bring about war with the world.

Everyday you will be bombarded with media telling you to follow the world’s ways of acting and thinking. The world wants you to compromise your walk and belief in God to follow them.

You have a choice. You can buy into the lies of the enemy or you can trust God.

The world will lie to you saying that you need something or have to believe a certain way in order to have peace and all that you want. These things will only bring death and separation from God.

Do not fall for the lies of the enemy who try to get you to go against God’s word.

I pray today that God will open your eyes to the lies of the enemy; that you will put your whole trust in God alone; that you will be guided by God’s Holy Spirit; and that you will not live or act as the world does in sin against God.

Exodus 34:12 Be Careful Of Snares

Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land where you are going, or they will be a snare among you. Exodus 34:12

Treaties are agreements that are made between two opposing groups in order to bring about peace. They are commonly known between two warring nations to bring about peace and end fighting amongst each other.

Although not always called a treaty, the same type of agreement is also found between opposing businesses and individuals. One thing that is common among all treaties is that they are a compromise between the two opposing groups. Both groups give in on their stand in some area and get to continue to stand strong in another area. On the outside it appears as a win-win.

As God was bringing the Israelites through the wilderness, He told them to be careful to not make any treaty with the people of the new lands. The reason for this warning was to keep the enemy from becoming a snare to the people.

God does not want His people to compromise with the enemy. The enemy is in the wrong each and every time. Satan is out to kill and destroy each and every person he can, with no mercy, and in any manner possible. The world does not want the believer to win any battle.

Sadly, compromise and treaties with the world is commonly seen in the church. People choose to not stand firmly with God and lower their standards. The give into the pressure of this world. Beginning to believe in the standards of the world, causes a treaty with the world to be made, which, in turn, causes the believer to turn away from God’s standards of living. The treaty has become a snare to them, causing damage or even death to a believer. This death is not just physical, but a turning from God.

Many believers openly live in sin because of their treaty with this world.

As a believer, you are to take a solid stand upon God’s word, with no compromise with the world. The world is out to deceive and kill, it is about self. Jesus is there to bring you life. Do not give up what God has given you. Do not allow the world to take it from you by deception.

A treaty with the world is enmity with God. Whose standards are you holding on to?

I pray today that you will hold onto God’s standards; that God will reveal where there is a treaty with the world in your life; that God will strengthen you to break any treaty with the world; and that God will keep you from being caught in the snare of this world’s deception.
