Romans 14:8 What Is Your Purpose In Life?

If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. Romans 14:8

All over the world, people are searching for their purpose in life. They want to know why they are there and what they are to do.

Some will find their purpose and reject it. Others will find that purpose and pursue it with everything in them. Many will never find that purpose. Never really knowing what they are to do, they just wander through life, lost.

As Paul points out that all foods are good to eat, he also points out that each person is to live or die for the Lord.

Without God in the picture, man has no real purpose on this earth. He lives for a short time, eats, drinks, works, and then dies. It is all over, with no lasting purpose.

The world has no real, solid standard to live by, anything goes. With no standard, there can be no purpose.

God made man for fellowship with Him and with others. He has set the rules for living a full, worthwhile, purposeful life. Every person can have a life that is full of meaning and purpose, beyond anything that this world can offer.

The life of a believer is to be lived for God in life and in death, in everything that one does. Jesus came to bring life to every person. He bought their lives with His blood, thus every person belongs to Him. Most, however, do not know that.

Sadly, many believers do not fully realize that they belong to Christ. They live their lives trying to please themselves and others. Living for God means that one will do everything he does for God and by God’s methods. He does not live for self or others.

As a believer, you also are to live for God in all that you do. Examine your life and see what your real purpose is in this life. See if it is for self or for God.

Seek God to find out what His purpose in this life. Then pursue that purpose and really live for God in every area of your life. This is turning from all sin, then becoming His witness and making disciples as you worship God with all of your life. This is the same purpose as what Jesus had.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will live for God; that you will know God’s purpose for your life; that God will open doors for you to do His will; and that you will be a witness for Jesus everywhere you go.

Zechariah 8:2 God Is Jealous For You

Handing a heart

This is what the Lord Almighty says: “I am very jealous for Zion; I am burning with jealousy for her.” Zechariah 8:2

Jealousy is something that is common among people. They are jealous of what someone else has and they want it for themselves. In these cases it is greed and selfishness, a sin.

People, in themselves, do not have a right to own or have anything. They just feel as if they have that right and often get upset when they don’t get it, while another person does.

God told Zechariah that He was burning with jealousy for Zion–Israel.

It was God who has created everything on this earth and in all of creation. Since He created everything it all belongs to Him. Israel had chosen to walk away and give themselves over to false gods, giving them worship. God was jealous of what the false gods were getting that was officially supposed to be His.

Even though centuries have past, the scene is not much different. People who had come to Jesus and began to change, changed again and have gone back to the false gods. Many believers have sold part of their lives away to following the false gods of this world–pride, position, greed, money, fame, sex, and more. These same people belong to God, but have chosen to walk away.

Just as God was jealous for Israel, He is jealous for those who are supposed to belong to Him. This not only includes those who had served Him and walked away, but also all other people on the earth. God loves and wants everyone to serve Him. He created everyone to be in fellowship with Him and He is jealous when they do not fellowship with Him.

God offers eternal life, whereas the world only offers eternal death.

You must realize how much God loves you and that it is He who created you and has the rights to you. You belong to God, regardless of where you are in this life.

God loves you so much, that He is jealous for you when you choose to follow the gods of this world and not Him. He will do what it takes to get you back, to pull you out of the clutches of the sin of this world.

Choose today to serve God alone. Choose to make God your only God, so that He does not have to be jealous for you and chase after you.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will make God your only God; that you will worship God alone; and that you will serve God with all of your life.

Psalm 100:3 It Is All About God

Sheep with shepherd

Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Psalm 100:3

Having knowledge is important in surviving in this world. It takes knowledge to know how things work. It takes knowledge to know how to accomplish something.

Knowledge used correctly can guide a person in making the right choices. It can also guide a person in choosing the right person. Employers will not hire a person who has no knowledge about the job or the position.

There are many in the world who believe that they have the right knowledge, that they know what is best. Groups will attempt to control others with their ‘knowledge’. However, the knowledge of this world is only temporary and of man alone.

The psalmist tells people to know that the Lord is God. God has created everyone and so everyone belongs to Him. The knowledge is that God is in control and people are to follow and obey Him.

In a world that is all about self, it is easy for one to forget that God is the one who is really in control. People think that they are self-made and can do whatever they want.

This belief can easily slip into the life of a believer in the church. One  begins to lead some ministry and it goes successful. After a time, he runs with it in his own way, forgetting that what it is all about. The focus is on building his ministry, rather than God’s kingdom.

Believers are to find out what God wants and do that. He is the one who guides and gives the strength and ability to do what needs to be done. It is God who accomplishes things through the believer.

You were made by God. You were made to do what He wants in His way. As a believer you are to follow God as sheep follow their shepherd.

God knows what is best for your life and is there to guide you on that path. There will be times that the path does not look like the best path, but you must know that you belong to Him and He loves you and will guide you correctly. It is not about you, but Him.

Allow your life to be one that loves and serves God. Give Him complete control of your life and see what He can do in and through you.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will trust God’s leading; that you will obey God in every area of your life; and that you will allow yourself to belong to God alone.
