All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast–all whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world. Revelation 13:8
Worship is something that every person on the earth does. Some will not call what they worship a god, but they do worship people and things.
In some places people worship idols as gods. Most often, however, the form of worship is found in idolizing something or someone higher than anything or anyone else as though it were a god of some type.
As John talks of the end times, he describes a beast that rises up in power. All of the people of the world worship this beast, except those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life–believers.
The majority of people in the church will be quick to say that they will not worship any person or thing outside of God Himself. As they say this, however, they are idolizing a person or some thing. Many idolize their careers, their home, their car, or even their ministry inside the church.
More time is often spent on things and other people than with God. People, pleasure and things are given higher position and authority in one’s life than God is. In their hearts they are bowing down to worship everything but God.
In the end times there will come someone who will rise up in power and authority called the Beast. The world will bow down to it and worship it. Believers need to take a stand to refuse to bow down to this beast.
If they are already bowing down to things, then they will bow down to this beast also. If they are not bowing down to things now, then they will not bow down to the beast.
As you examine your life, you must ask yourself where or what do you put your most time and effort in. In whatever you place all of your time and effort is what you are idolizing and worshipping.
Your first and primary focus should be upon God. Serving, obeying and worshipping God should take up all of your time and efforts, leaving no room to worship some beast that comes along.
Is your name written in the Lamb’s book of life? Will you worship the beast when it comes?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will worship God alone; that you will give all of your time and efforts to serve and worship God; and that God will keep you from being deceived into worshipping the things and people of this world.
