When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. John 19:20
Jesus was accused of blasphemy against God and was sentenced to die on the cross. After extreme abuse, He was nailed to the cross. At the moment He died, Jesus said, “It is finished,” and He gave up His Spirit and died.
People are known for starting many different projects in and around the house and property. In order to finish the project, one must completely do everything that is needed to be done. If any part is left undone, it is not finished.
Often people will start a project, then skip some of the steps in order to try to get it done faster. One project that is known for people to try and skip the steps or change the order is in putting a model airplane together. As they work on it, they miss one or two steps. When they believe they are finished, there is something missing and it does not work.
When Jesus was on the earth, He made sure that every step of the project that His Father had given him was completed correctly. The project He had been given to do was to seek and save those who are lost.
In order for a person to be saved from his sins, a perfect living sacrifice had to be offered. Jesus was and is that perfect sacrifice.
When He gave up His life on the cross, He said that it is finished. With that, there is no more need to work for salvation. The price had been paid. The project was over and completed.
Too often, believers try to add to the requirements to be saved. They add different things that a person must do to be saved. Yet, Jesus paid the price and it was complete. All a person must do is repent of sins and accept what Jesus did.
You must be willing to trust in Jesus and His sacrifice for you for your salvation. Do not try to earn it, it can no longer be earned. Jesus said that His work was done, the price was paid, it is finished and no more is needed.
Believe in Jesus and now live for Him. Tell everyone what Jesus has done for them. Bring everyone to Jesus. No more is needed.
I pray today that you will know the work Jesus did for you; that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will trust in His death for you; and that you will live for Jesus all the days of your life.
