Psalm 118:14 Strength And Defense

The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. Psalm 118:14

Finding strength to accomplish things is the goal of many people. They have a great dream or goal in life, but lack the strength to follow through with it or accomplish it.

Others will find the needed strength in their position or wealth. Often the self determination gives a person the strength to keep moving forward over all obstacles in life. Along with this giving strength, they will also use it as their defense.

People will defend their actions by their position or their own wisdom. Actions are often justified as being good because ‘everyone’ does it that way.

While all of this can help a person move a long way, they will eventually fail. Positions and wealth get removed. Defense arguments fall short of truth. Failure occurs.

In this psalm, the writer states that God is his strength and defense. It is God who provides salvation.

Having God for one’s strength is leaning upon Him for wisdom, direction and strength to accomplish what needs to be done. It is focusing on what Jesus had already went through to bring salvation. If Jesus went through what He did, then the believer can make it through the light and momentary struggles of this life.

The world will also strive to accuse the believer of wrong and sin, but the believer has the defense of what Jesus has done for him. Jesus had paid the price for all sins and removed the guilt. He now defends the believer when Satan and the world strive to accuse and condemn.

Things of this world can help a person for a short time, but they are only temporary and will fail in the end. Jesus has provided for salvation to the very end. By His Holy Spirit He gives strength to stand strong and true to God as a witness to this world.

As you are going through struggles in this life, focus your life on what God has done for you. Lean on Him for the needed strength. Look at what Jesus went through for you and know that He will bring you through every situation.

As the world and your mind work to accuse of you sin, remember as you repent that Jesus forgives you. Stand on the forgiveness that has already been provided.

God is ready to help you run and not grow weary on the path He has you on and He will protect your soul till the day you step into heaven.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the strength God has for you; that you will know the defense Jesus provides you; and that you will be His witness to this world.

Mark 14:60-61 Keeping Your Mouth Shut

“Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, ‘Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony these men are bringing against you?’ But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” Mark 14:60-61

Jesus was standing before the Sanhedrin and all the rulers being tried. Many people were casting accusations against Him of various sorts. The people could not agree on their testimonies against Him.

As they were accusing Him, the high priest would give Jesus a chance to answer His rebuttal to the accusations. However, Jesus would not say a word. He kept silent.

Jesus was perfect. He had never done anything wrong. He never broke any of the laws at all. Yet, He still remained silent.

He knew where He stood with God the Father. It was only what God thought that really mattered. Jesus knew that He had to be accused, convicted and to die on the cross. That was God’s desire.

The only thing the high priests were doing, was fulfilling God’s desire for Jesus. They were ensuring that He would die on the cross.

As Jesus was being accused, He did not fight for His rights or freedom.

Often people may accuse you of something that is false. They may say you said or did something that is not true. As with most people, your first reaction is to defend yourself. You fight to prove you are innocent.

Seek God in the situation. Find out what He is doing with that situation. Maybe God has put you there for a purpose, and that is not to defend yourself. You may be there to be a witness. God may be using you to help someone else.

Find out if God really wants you to defend yourself, or to remain silent and accept what happens. Think of Joseph having to go to prison in order for God to make him second to Pharaoh and save the people. Jesus had to die on the cross in order to save the world.

God may be bringing you to a low spot in order to raise you up, to use you to do a great work for Him. Are you willing? As you go through a bad situation, it may be a time to be silent and accept it. Seek God today on whether to speak or be silent.

I pray today that God will guide you in your walk with Him; that you will hear from God as to what to say and when; that you will know when to be silent and when to speak; that God will make you more like Jesus; and that God will build His kingdom through you.

Revelation 12:11 No Shrinking

“They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” Revelation 12:11

Right before this verse you are told that the Kingdom of God has come and Satan has been cast down. There had been a great war in heaven and God wins the battle. Satan is defeated. All believers are now triumphant.

Two ways are shown for a believer to be able to triumph over Satan. The first is by the blood of the Lamb. Jesus is called the Lamb of God.

It was His shedding of the blood of Jesus on the cross that defeated the power of Satan. Prior to that blood being shed, every person was guilty of their sin. The law stated that the one who sins must die. Once the blood was shed, God was able to forgive the person of all sins. This destroyed the power of Satan’s accusations of guilt.

The other way to overcome Satan is by the word of their testimony. Each believer has a testimony of how they came to believe in Jesus and what He has done for them. This testimony defeats Satan’s accusations.

You can also claim the blood of Jesus over the sins of your life. His blood will remove all accusations. You, then, also have a testimony of what God has done. Speak that testimony out loud to everyone. Share what God has done. Do not believe the lies of Satan.

With the blood and the testimony, the believers no longer loved their lives so much as to shrink from anything, including death.

When you know that you stand clean before God, you can know that nothing can defeat you or destroy you. Satan will try to accuse you, but you are set free by God. There is nothing that Satan can do to you to harm you.

In knowing this, do not love this life so much that you do not live for God. Be willing to tell the gospel message of the salvation by Jesus to everyone. Do not fear any threats. Do not shrink back from speaking, even if it will cost you your life. It cost Jesus His life to save you, what less can you give Him?

I pray that today God will help you to speak your testimony to the world; that you will not back down in being His witness; that God will reveal to you the triumph you have in Jesus; that you will no longer fear those in the world; and that God will use you to build His kingdom.
