Christianity once thrived very strongly in Italy, but has since declined. Very few actually practice what they claim to believe. Catholicism had been very strong for many years, but has now declined, with many claiming it only due to cultural pressure, not from the heart. Rather than following Christianity, many will explore New Age philosophies and mix the two together.
One thing strong for the Catholic church is that there is a lot of work done in the communities to help people out. Food, clothing and medical support is done very well by the church, though evangelism is very low.
Drugs have become very rampant in parts of Italy. Several church organizations are just beginning to address this challenge and offer solutions to overcome the addictions.
The government is often influenced by the mafia. This brings about a lot of corruption and crime to the nation. Christian leaders are needed in Italy who will take a stand for Godly principles and evangelism for the lost.
