Pray for Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso is a nation that has been primarily taken over by radical jihadist Muslim groups. It has great tension in the nation and several coups taking over the government. Over 2 million people have been displaced and at least 20,000 have been killed in the last few years. With the takeover, Christians have been targeted and persecuted at very high levels.

Along with the changes in the government, Burkina Faso is a very poor nation that is landlocked around other nations. Poverty is a common mindset, and the lifespan of the majority is very low. Corruption in the government pulls money away from the people and needed projects to help the people. The very low literacy rate also increases the poverty of the nation.

Even though there is great persecution, the number of Christians continue to grow. There are an estimated 2 million believers in the nation. Young pastors struggle to find Godly Christian wives to marry and often have to remain unmarried. Many also struggle to get training due to the low literacy rate and the need to learn to read and write.

Provision for the bible in the languages of the people remains a struggle. Currently there are 28 active translation projects in process while 17 more are needed.

Points to pray:
Removal of corruption in the government
Learning to read
Provision and strength for pastors
Strength and protection for believers
Open eyes for Muslims to find Jesus
Translation of the Bible in the needed languages

  1. I spent a couple of months in this country back in the 80’s. It was called Upper Volta then. Lived with a missionary family in a very remote area, on the edge of the Sahara. The government was bad back then. So was poverty. But the people were friendly and radical Islam had not yet taken over. A country that definitely needs prayer. Thanks, Tom.
