You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. Deuteronomy 6:7
Talking is something that people do every day. Some will talk non-stop, while others just talk when they feel they have something important to say. When people are around friends it is very easy for them to talk about things that all care about. When around strangers it is often difficult for most people to strike up a conversation.
As Moses was giving all the commands of God to the Israelites, he told them that they must teach them to their children and talk about them all day long, everywhere they go.
People generally like to talk about themselves and what is important to them. Many people will talk for hours about sports, while others may talk for hours about their children or grandchildren. Men will often talk about their jobs with other men. The focus is often what is most important to them and consumes the majority of their day and their thinking.
Although there is nothing inherently bad with talking about all these things, believers have something that is of even greater value to talk about. God’s word, the Bible, is filled with thousands of things to talk about. No matter how much one reads and talks about it, there is still yet more to read, learn and talk about.
On top of that is all the things that God is doing in one’s own personal life or circles of life. When one opens up spiritual eyes to see what God is doing, there are volumes of things to talk about. The world needs to hear these things. Families and friends need to hear these things. Believers need to talk about God day and night.
You will have some subjects that you light up when you begin to talk about them. Time will stand still as you talk, and you won’t have another care in the world. While all that talking may be good, you need to take time to talk about God and His word. Talk about all the commands and promises He has given. Then take time to talk about all the things He is doing in your life and around you. Begin with your family and then spread the talking to all around you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know God’s commands and promises to talk about them; that you will be bold in talking about what God is doing in your life; and that many will come to know Jesus through what you have to say.
