Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring Me an offering. From everyone who gives it willingly with his heart you shall take My offering. Exodus 25:2
Giving of gifts is a common tradition among people during birthdays, Christmas and a few other special occasions. During those times people are happy to give and will often give generously. Outside of those special times people do not give as much. Giving even decreases when it is with someone not directly connected and there does not appear to be any direct benefit in the giving.
God has Moses tell the people to bring to Him an offering willingly from the heart. This offering was to be used for the building of the tabernacle.
The world is very good at setting up ways to give to organizations that help other people or things out. Funds are set up to help people afford cancer treatments, save an endangered animal, build a new park and many other things. People see the value in giving the money to help to better the lives of others and this world.
When it comes to bringing an offering to the church, many people tend to hold back. People often see the church as being greedy and not needing it.
God still calls people to bring an offering to Him. This offering can be financial to help build His church and spread the gospel message.
However, there is something greater that can be offered to God than all the money one has. It is one’s own life. One can offer to God one’s life to be a witness, to be a servant to do what He needs done in building His church around the world.
Just as the offering the Israelites were to give willingly, the believers need to offer their lives willingly.
You are able to hear and see many different organizations seeking offerings and gifts to support their cause. Some of these you may support, along with support of your local church. More important than those things is what are you offering to God? Physical gifts are good, but your life and abilities are better. God can do more with you than with the financial things that you may offering. Be willing to offer your life with a willing and joyful heart for God to use for His glory and purpose.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will offer your life as a gift to God; that you will give to God with a willing and joyful heart; and that God will use what you give Him to build His kingdom.
