Exodus 24:7 Commit To Doing And Being Obedient

Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that the Lord has said we will do, and be obedient.” Exodus 24:7

Entering into most jobs there is a policy book that lays out the requirements of what is expected to be done or not done. Some will go over all of those policies in person, while others just have the applicant sign that it was read. The signature is one’s agreeing to what is in the policy handbook and that one would do everything said in it.

Moses read the Book of the Covenant in front of all the Israelites. When he had finished, all the people stated that they would do all that was said to be done and be obedient to God.

Reading or hearing a policy book is easy to do, though it may be boring. It is easy to quickly sign an agreement to follow all the directions. It is also easy for people to quickly forget the policies and break the rules.

Breaking the rules is often done when one thinks that no one is watching and that there is no real purpose for the rule. Rules often feel like they hold a person down from doing more. They get in the way of personal freedom.

Regret for breaking a rule usually only comes when one is caught. Then it is more that they regret getting caught than doing wrong.

Choosing to believe in and follow Jesus is signing a policy handbook with God that one is willing to do everything in His book and be obedient to His word. Every moment of everyday the believer must be willing to abide by God’s commands and do what He says, being obedient.

In places that you have worked you have had to obey a variety of policies that were in place. Most likely you had to agree in writing or verbally that you would obey those policies. God has written down His policy book on how you are to live your life. He shows what you can and cannot do. The Holy Spirit will lead you and guide you in all these areas. When you gave your heart to Jesus, you agreed to obey and do all that God tells you to do. Are you holding up your part of the agreement to do and obey all of His words?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know how God wants you to live your life; that you will obey all the commands of God; and that you will do all that God wants you to do.
