And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner; Exodus 17:15
Driving down a highway or through a city one will see many different types of banners. Each one is being hung or flown to show support for something. It is to draw attention to something that someone else believes in. It could be a product being sold or it could be an organization or support. It helps let people know what is available or coming up soon that they may be interested in. While many may ignore the banners, many others will take note of them.
After God gave Moses and the Israelites victory over Amalek and the Amalekites, Moses built an altar and named it “The Lord Is My Banner”–JHWH Nissi.
When an NFL football team recently won the annual Superbowl, many people went around waving banners of the winning team. They wanted the world to know who they supported and who won the game. They gave all the credit to the winning team.
People are often excited to raise awareness about something that they believe in. They will talk about it, raising a banner to let others know, hoping to draw others into agreement with them. Some will do it to show victory over others.
Believers are people who have been given victory over the conviction of death due to sin in their lives. The greatest enemy one could have had been defeated. This defeat was not by their own works, but by the blood of Jesus being shed upon the cross.
Knowing they have this victory, believers can raise a banner that Jesus is their banner–their victory. It is raising up who and what they believe in. It is God’s victory, not their selves. Doing this gives others an opportunity to turn to God and gain that same victory over their enemy.
Everywhere you look there are some types of banner being flying. The world is not ashamed to let everyone know what they stand for and believe in. God has already done a miracle in your life with removing your sin and guilty verdict. Raise up a banner to let the world know who gave you that victory. This may be a physical banner or one that is with words and actions. Let the world know that it is Jesus who is with you at all times and in every situation.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the victory God is giving you; that you will let the world know what God has done for you; and that you will not be ashamed to let the world know Jesus is your leader.
