So Moses and Aaron came in to Pharaoh and said to him, “Thus says the Lord God of the Hebrews: How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me.” Exodus 10:3
Being humble is not something that is often promoted in society. People are constantly told that they are the king of their own lives and can do what they want. Rebelling against authority occurs in many different ways, rather than humbly submitting to authority. Many want to be the top person and in complete control of everything.
As Pharaoh rejected letting the people go, God had Moses and Aaron ask him how long he would refuse to humble himself before God and that he must let His people go to serve Him.
Humility is being willing to keep oneself down and lift someone else up. It is submitting to someone in greater authority. This is a very difficult thing for most people to do due to that everyone desires to be in control of their own lives and not hand it off to someone else.
The world tells everyone that they are in complete control and can do whatever they desire to do. Consequences are ignored and chaos begins.
Many inside the church also chose to refuse to humble themselves before God. They want to do things their own way and in their own strength. Rejecting God’s commands, they walk their own path.
Jesus humbled Himself by leaving heaven and becoming a human person. He humbled Himself even more by being willing to die a shameful death upon the cross as a curse from God His Father.
Believers are to be humble before God and allow God to be in control. They are to obey His every command out of humility knowing God is in control, not themselves.
The world will push you to be in complete control of yourself and reject authority. You will have to make the choice for yourself as to whether you are the one in control or if God is the one in control. Do not put yourself on God’s throne, but bow before Him and be humble. Allow God to be the ultimate authority in your life and not yourself. Hear and obey what God says out of humility and submission to His perfect and loving authority.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will hear what God is telling you to do; that you will be humble before God in every area of your life; that you will obey God’s commands; and that you will give God complete authority over your life.
